Someone once asked, “What should you be doing while waiting for Jesus to return?”
Good question.
The short answer is “Nothing special that you wouldn’t otherwise be doing.”
IF the reader is now exclaiming, “WHAT!?! What do you mean ‘nothing special’?”
Then, the reader should remember that NO ONE actually KNOWS the day and hour of the return of Jesus Christ.
“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”
–Matthew 24:36
“Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.”
–Matthew 25:13
“Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.”
–Mark 13:35-37
The Bible verses cited give a clue as to one activity which SHOULD be undertaken by the reader.
Watching. Staying alert. Looking for your redemption.
One should spend the time waiting for Jesus ALERTLY.
ACUALLY, ‘watching’ is an activity undertaken by those who desire to STAY ALERT.
Do not let that day take the reader unawares.
“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”
–Matthew 24:36-39
Do NOT be like all of those who dwelt upon the earth before the flood came.
Do NOT be SURPRISED by the coming of Jesus.
One can spend his time waiting, but he should spend it waiting PRODUCTIVELY as advised in God’s Word.
“And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds. (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.) For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.”
–Luke 19:11-27
Spend the time PRODUCTIVELY while one is waiting.
In the meantime,
WATCH!
[Even though believers do NOT know the day and hour of the return of Jesus Christ, they WILL know the SEASON–because they are believers and have God’s Holy Spirit helping them in this matter.
“But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. (That is, it is very surprising to all those who do not WATCH!) For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”
–1THESSALONIANS 5:1-6
DOES the reader KNOW what he will be doing while waiting in the last days before Jesus returns?
It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?
Make Your Calling and Election Sure: End Times Survival
DOES the reader believe he is NOT saved?
Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
