# This was ALMOST sub-titled “Thoughts you have when you’re not busy thinking about anything else.”

# ALMOST…

# Folks who have felt the power of God–the REAL power of God–enter their lives KNOW that there is a GOD.  These folks wonder why those who are LOST cannot see or know this.  Well, for one reason: they are lost.  Most do NOT believe in God.  Others not only do NOT believe in God, they do NOT believe in the power of God–mostly because they do not have ANY experiences which demonstrate this awesome power to them.

# Natural disasters BEYOND the control of man (earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, etc.) AT ONE TIME were almost universally referred to as “Acts of God“–even by insurance companies (who are not the biggest repositories of faith in the cosmos).  However, one rarely hears the phrase “Act of God” anymore. Why is this?  There are probably a number of good explanations which could be put forth and then EXAMINED by others for their soundness.  HOWEVER, no such explanations will be forthcoming from THIS corner; our viewpoint seems to have been fairly clear on the matter over the past NEARLY ten years we’ve been writing this collection of scribblings.

# What were at one time referred to as ‘Acts of God’ are almost ALL referred to NOW–during the last days–as ‘natural disasters’–AS IF God had no hand in that which happens ‘naturally.’

# Speaking of ‘repositories,’ the name of the Canton, Ohio newspaper is an unusual one.

Just something that popped into one’s mind when writing about ‘repositories.’

# While talking to a good acquaintance (who is a member of an idol-worshiping PAGAN group), it was mentioned that the acquaintance was doing “good things.”

“You know, you keep this up and MAYBE one day you’ll go to heaven?”

“What?  Become a Christian?  NEVER!  Too many rules…”

“There’s not that many rules to follow.  And Jesus Himself commented on the circumstance.”

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

“Regardless, it sounds like a LOT of do’s and don’ts to me…”

# Talking to that SAME acquaintance later that same week, it was mentioned (after HE mentioned something that he had done which was ESPECIALLY egregious)  that ‘he was hopeless.’

“I’m kinda surprised to hear YOU say that.”

“What’s that?”

“I didn’t think ANYTHING qualified as ‘hopeless’ in YOUR book…”

“I don’t know that I’d dwell too much on it.  It’s just something you say when you can’t think of anything else to say that’s appropriate.”

Today is February 14, 2023.

February 14 is known as Valentine’s Day in most of the world.

While we have nearly exhausted (for the time being) our cache of information on MODERN LOVE, we thought a nice, informative piece on VALENTINE’S DAY might be in order.

So here it is!

MODERN LOVE

VALENTINE’S DAY is the day when the USA celebrates LOVE–or what we’re taught is LOVE.

Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14.  It originated as a Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.

So how did the world move from Saint Valentine–a man supposedly who died for the testimony of Jesus Christ–to a holiday about love and romance?

The day became associated with romantic love in the 14th and 15th centuries when notions of courtly love flourished, apparently by association with the “lovebirds” of early spring. In 18th-century England, it grew into an occasion in which couples expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines”). Valentine’s Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid.

Here’s a quick Valentine Day’s tidbit: Where did the ‘heart’ (or ‘heart-shaped outline) come from?  It looks NOTHING like a human heart, so where did this almost-universal symbol of love originate?

A professor of psychology who studied the symbolism, origin and history of Valentine’s Day said the traditional double-lobed heart symbol on candy and cards is inspired by the shape of female buttocks as they appear from behind, according to Discovery News.

A number of writers picked up on this salacious symbol.

Though the world’s ‘authorities’ are not enthused about the revelation, it is something to think about the next time the reader is tempted to give a ‘heart’-shaped box of candy to a sweetie.

At one time, it was claimed that Valentine’s Day was the second-biggest gift-giving day of the year (after Christmas).

Is that true?

The answer is hard to pin down–though there are a LOT of gifts given to sweethearts (real and imagined) on the day.

Like most other things which, once-upon-a-time began from religious beginnings, Valentine’s Day has morphed into something that its acolytes CLAIM is symbolic of love and romance.

But is it?

The reader will have to make up his own mind on this one.

Modern Love: The Fallacy of Romantic Love

ROMANCE?

The world seemingly NEVER tires of laying out its equation of man + woman = supreme happiness as long as they both shall live.

In other words, the world celebrates ENDLESSLY the notion of ROMANCE and romantic love.

And the world uses ALL of its many components to pound this message ON A DAILY BASIS into the heads of ALL who listen.  Music, movies, TV shows, books, pithy sayings, advertisements for diamonds and diamond rings: all are used to further the notion among the masses that ROMANTIC LOVE rules the modern roost.

We read, in the history books, that ‘arranged marriages‘ were once the way our ancestors did things BEFORE the avalanche of ROMANTIC LOVE began to fall.  Folks from that era seemed to genuinely fond of their lifemates when those partners were CHOSEN by their parents.

WHY then, all of this non-stop chatter about ROMANCE?

IF it is like any other NON-TRUE assertion that the world makes, it require a never-ending PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN to make it seem ‘real.’  And–as readers of ETPR are aware–propaganda requires REPETITION.

GOOD propaganda requires ENDLESS repetition.

But, what about Doris and Bob next door who tell their stories of meeting and falling head-over-heels in love?

Are those tales not true?

Well, OFTEN folks will spin a story which puts them in a good light. Unfortunately, the truth of the matter OFTEN gets bent beyond recognition (due to being relentlessly hammered into place by the STORY being told).

ROMANTIC LOVE is a fallacy.

ROMANTIC LOVE is something that is EXPECTED of those about to engage in modern romance.

ROMANTIC LOVE–like so much the world offers–is more about the STORY and less about the facts of the matter.

VALENTINE’S DAY is tomorrow.

And what modern holiday celebrates the IDEA of ROMANCE more than Valentine’s Day?

Oh, some indiscreet teens will attempt to spoil the ROMANCE party by pointing out that “Their boyfriend WILL have a new truck!”

But MOSTLY, other folks just consider these words to be by the unenlightened.  So, their claims are largely ignored by the rest of the population.

Let Valentine’s Day 2023 mark the day that the reader left behind his mistaken ideas of ROMANCE.

Let Valentine’s Day 2023 mark the day the reader began to treat his relationships as he treats the oil changes for his vehicle: something that MUST be thought of and thought of CLEARLY.

MODERN LOVE makes such a good, heart-warming story, it’s hard NOT to believe it.

HOWEVER, on Valentine’s Day 2023, the reader would do well to remember that the ONLY true love these days seems to be between a person and himself.

Tales of ROMANTIC LOVE are just that: tales and stories and narratives that snare the weak-minded.

HOPEFULLY, the reader will AVOID such nonsense and live out a happy, contented, fulfilled life.

WHAT does the reader think about love?

DOES what the reader think and what the reader see, differ?

WHY does the reader think this is?
