YESTERDAY, ETPR published a piece about humbling one’s self before the LORD.
(The Basis of All Worship: Humbling One’s Self)
In that piece, we provided a few ways one might humble himself before the LORD AND we promised a few more ways to humble one’s self “in a near future piece–God willing.”
Well, THIS is that article.
After scouring the Internet, as well as the writings of famous “men-of-God,” we collected some additional ways a man might humble himself before the LORD.
YESTERDAY, we addressed fasting and submitting one’s self to the civil authorities (even when they are OBVIOUSLY bad). In addition, we said that obeying God’s commands was the ULTIMATE way to demonstrate a man’s humbleness.
TODAY, we provide an additional SIX more.
Those who promote their ‘ministries’ on the Internet promise a LOT of ways to humble yourself: 5, 12, 15…pick a number!
After reading and re-reading their offerings, here are some ways for a person to humble themselves before God–which seem biblical.
1 – Put OTHERS before you. This includes watching out for the possessions of others, not just your own things.
“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”
–Philippians 2:3-4
2- Like God Himself, LOVE mercy.
“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
–Micah 6:8
3- Do NOT say bad things about your brother.
“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.”
–James 4:10-11
4- Humbling one’s self is a way of FEARING THE LORD. FEARING THE LORD is a basic tenet of Christianity. Both FEARING THE LORD and HUMILITY are promised rich and gracious rewards from God.
“By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.”
–Proverbs 22:4
5- Instead of transgressing God’s Word, work to make amends for prior transgressions–and not just to those who were personally wronged BUT to all who are in need of such help.
“Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.”
–Ephesians 4:28
6- Each person should remember what will bring him down and what will raise him up.
“A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.”
–Proverbs 29:23
There are OTHER ways to humble one’s self. God willing, we will address those in an additional FUTURE article.
HAS the reader EVER thought about the different ways to REALLY be humble before the LORD?
It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
—1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
