Information One Does Not Know

CLUELESS

MOST of the time, information is said to be “available“–that is, that the information is understood and KNOWN by most people.

HOWEVER, recently a few of the locals entered into a discussion about a phrase which MOST people have heard.

Pull the wool over your eyes,” as in

Don’t let them pull the wool over your eyes.”

The discussion began as a contrasting between the original phrase (“…pull the wool over your eyes” AND a newer, more modern way of saying that: (“…pull the WORLD over your eyes.“)

The latter phrase–which ultimately means the same as the original phrase–has been used FREQUENTLY during the past two or three years–particularly by the Corporate Media.

Do you see how they pull the world over your eyes? You’ve never been told, no one ever let on. Teachers teach you how to handle a checking account and they …

Oh reiter admitted her pull the world over your eyes, but just listen. Why should I listen to you? You’re absolutely right.

HOWEVER, when the question was asked, NO ONE had ever even heard of the more modern phrase.

Which was a bit surprising.

It was at this point that someone in the discussion offered, “Do you know where ‘pull the wool over your eyes’ comes from?

NO ONE present had a clue.

This is what the man said (paraphrased).

This term is from the early 1800s and means to fool or lie to someone and get away with it through deception and trickery. From the early 1600s to present day, judges in Europe adorn wigs made from wool. In the United States it was a passing phase for our founding fathers to wear them. Pulling the wool over someone’s eyes depicts an unscrupulous person such as a deceitful lawyer when they are successful in lying to a judge and getting away with it. This is likened to physically pulling the wig (wool) down over the judge’s eyes until he/she cannot see properly to make an educated decision based on truth. The slightly earlier form of this phrase was to spread the wool over someone’s eyes.
Where’d that come from? Pull the wool over someone’s eyes. (Phrase)

Several THEN made the remark, “I didn’t know that!

Which is why ANY day one learns something completely new is NOT a totally wasted day.

How often does the reader learn something he did not previously know?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
