Chopping One’s Way Through the Wondrous Wilds of Fantasy Bible Speculation

CUTTING THROUGH SPECULATION

God’s Word (the Bible) is a book which is difficult–if not impossible–for MOST to understand.

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
–1CORINTHIANS 2:14

Because so FEW understand God’s Word, there is not TRUTH about God’s Word which get repeated by man. Instead, SPECULATION (sometimes of the WILDEST manner) gets substituted for what was ACTUALLY written in God’s Word.

NOW, it is NOT the notion of this writer that SPECULATION is NOT good exercise.

It is.

Particularly when the SPECULATION involves JUMPING to bad conclusions (which it nearly always does).

But speculation is speculation.

Speculation might be someone’s guess.  Speculation might be someone’s attempt at stroking the flesh. It might be that the person offering the speculation wants to tell a story.

The church folk have listened to so much speculation over the years, they may have grown accustomed to it.

One example:

how old will we be in heaven?

This piece tells readers the story that because Jesus died when he was 33, EVERYONE will be just like Jesus when they die.

So EVERYONE will be 33-years-old when they wind up in heaven.

This story prompted a question.

“How old does God’s Word say Jesus was when He died?”

What is VERY BAD is when SPECULATION (such as the story linked to above) leads to FURTHER speculation.

Each degree of speculation gets FURTHER from the truth.

Maybe the reader wants to know why someone would pile speculation upon speculation?

WHO has the most interest in delivering that which is FURTHER away from the TRUTH of God’ Word?

IF the reader wants to paint a word picture, then picture this:

SPECULATION is like a JUNGLE.  To get anywhere, the jungle (speculation) must be beaten and chopped back.

Chances are that MOST readers are familiar with a passage they think came from the Bible.

BUT it DID NOT.

That is how speculative “facts” get added to God Word.

Once false information gets treated AS IF it was true, it does not take a lot to keep adding to the stories.

“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.”
–Deuteronomy 4:2

“Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”
–Proverbs 30:6

[This topic was recently brought to mind when it was remembered that a few years ago this writer came across an article about a person’s eternal bodies. This piece speculated that EVERYONE would have the body of a 30-year-old because God WANTS YOU TO BE HAPPY and most people would be HAPPIEST if they had the body of a 30-year-old. At the time, this article was not found to be little more than speculation. UPON remembrance however, that view changed. Try as this writer might, that original article could not be located.]

SPECULATION usually sounds good.

SPECULATION usually is flesh-pleasing.

SPECULATION usually like eating peanuts: once one acquires a taste for it, he normally wants more.

BUT, speculation is speculation.

SPECULATION turns the Bible from God’s Word, which is the complete TRUTH on EVERYTHING to a book of fantasies.

SPECULATION IS LIKE A JUNGLE: KEEP CUTTING IT AWAY UNTIL YOU GET TO THE TRUTH–WHICH YOU MAY NEVER DO IF THAT JUNGLE’S WEEDS DO NOT CONTAIN ANY TRUTH.

The reader might remember all of the preceding because SPECULATION might be all that he gets during the last days and he likely will recognize it when he sees it.

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
