It has been stated (a number of times!) in these pages that God is the most POWERFUL entity in the universe.
HOWEVER, a great number of moderns do not see it that way. For whatever reason–and they have more reasons than Carter has pills–they do NOT believe God is very powerful–IF they believe AT ALL in God.
Many believe–whether they say so or not–that God is some big, bumbling guy in the sky who is like a kindly old grandfather and who will forgive whatever transgressions they commit.
HOW can one make such a WRONG decision–particularly when their eternal destination is up for grabs?
Whether they declare them or not, here are SOME of the reasons for modern man to turn his back on God and ignore the One-Who-Created-ALL.
1- It is not believed that God is who He says He is.
For whatever reason, MANY folks do not believe God’s Word when He ALONE has control of ALL He created.
A great many wrongly believe that God is nothing more than a bedtime story told to children to get them to behave.
“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”
–Romans 1:20-21
2- 1- It is not believed that God will do what He says He will do.
For whatever reason, MANY folks do not believe God’s Word when He declares He is POWERFUL.
“And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me. For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth. For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth. And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. As yet exaltest thou thyself against my people, that thou wilt not let them go? Behold, to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now. Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the field; for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die. He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses: And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field. And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt. And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt. So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field. Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.”
–Exodus 9:13-26
“I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet [proper] unto me.”
–Jeremiah 27:5
“And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.”
–Exodus 14:31
And the wicked WILL be judged during the return of Jesus.
3- Many people believe “God is Love“–and little more than that.
They have DOZENS of reasons why God will ‘look the other way’ at their sin.
Maybe they believe that God is a kindly old man who ‘lets things slide’?
Maybe they believe that God will forgive them because He will get lonely if he sends everyone to hell?
Maybe they believe that God will overlook their wrongs because He is God and He ‘will understand’?
WHATEVER the reason, a GREAT MANY FOLKS BELIEVE GOD WILL LET THEM GO BECAUSE He is God–and they are not.
BUT (and here is something the reader may want to REMEMBER): God is NOT a bumbling, old man who is afraid He might get lonely. God is God: Creator-Of-ALL.
God will do WHATEVER He feels is right.
“But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.”
–Psalm 115:3
” I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God. Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?”
–Isaiah 43:11-13
“Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.”
–Psalm 135:6
Because God is ALL-POWERFUL, he may do ANYTHING He pleases. The reader should be ever-thankful that it pleases God to be HOLY, MERCIFUL and GOOD.
DOES the reader believe that GOD is the most powerful force in the universe?
It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?
