The REDEMPTIVE Power of Sin?

SIN

To the untrained ear, hearing that SIN is ANYTHING but DEATH seems a bit odd.

“Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
–James 1:16-17

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
–Romans 6:23

“Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
–James 1:15

So, according to God’s Word, SIN IS DEATH–and yet, we speak of the “redemptive power of sin.”

What gives?  Seems as if these two extremes are complete opposites.

HOWEVER, God’s Word is true, so the reader should be looking to see how this all ‘fits’ together.

Sin IS death.

UNCONFESSED sin, that is.  1John 1:9 is one of the MOST IMPORTANT verses in the entire Bible.  1John 1:9 gives the account of HOW sin is forgiven; that is, that SIN (once confessed) is no longer SIN, which is DEATH.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
–1JOHN 1:9

And so we learn that there is TWO types of sin: confessed sin–which is no longer sin once we acknowledge it to the Father and ask forgiveness for the transgression–and SIN–which is UNCONFESSED and therefore, remains as sin, which is DEATH.

WHY would ANYONE NOT confess their sin and have it forgiven?

It boils down to: pride overcomes common sense.

Man is full of pride: man uses DOZENS of ways to justify his transgression instead of simply acknowledging it before the LORD.

“What are you talking about?  That’s not even a sin!”

“What?  That would make me a sinner!  I am NOT a sinner!”

“I go to church!  I’m a child of God, NOT a sinner!”

Many may not have the DESIRE to sin, but man is a creation of dirt.

Therefore, man is a sin machine.

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
–Genesis 2:7

“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.”
–Ecclesiastes 12:7

“In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”
–Genesis 3:19

God KNOWS all of this, which is why He gives man such an escape clause from the SURE DEATH of SIN.

“For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.”
–Psalm 103:14

The formula goes something like this: man sins, man confesses, man is forgiven, man sins again.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Man may NOT want to repeat his sinful behavior, but he will because he is a man and was created that way.

“But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me. Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.  For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.”
–Romans 7:8-20

The formula for UNCONFESSED SIN goes something like this: man sins, man stubbornly clings to his sin, man is judged: SIN proves to be DEATH eternally.

The REDEMPTIVE power of sin lies in the first formula: confessed sin is forgiven and has no more power of death over the one who committed that behavior. It can be labeled ‘redemptive’ because it FORCES man to confess and acknowledge his sin.

To the reader: CONFESS YOUR SINS!

BE FORGIVEN!

Do NOT CLING TO YOUR SIN!

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
