SOME people will reminiscence about the time which went by in the past and will sigh that they did NOT make better decisions.
OTHERS will recall the time which passed them by and will remember those times AS IF they really did make ALL THE RIGHT DECISIONS.
A FEW will dredge up the days gone by and do NEITHER, trying to remember accurately what REALLY happened.
This is about someone in the THIRD group who recalled days gone by and compared them to the days as they happen presently.
One of the points of comparison between the two times is the BELIEF OF GOD’S WORD, particularly that heaven is REAL and NOT just a fairy tale.
When one was a heathen, one CLAIMED to believe the Word of God–but one didn’t, REALLY. IF what was written in the Bible contradicted ANY of man’s authorities–especially SCIENCE!–then the Bible got a sad smile and a heathen verdict: “Well, that’s what they used to think!”
AFTER one leaves the pagan world of the heathen behind, HEAVEN become so real that the former heathen KNOWS it is REAL and NOT just a story. This is one of the benefits of being ‘born again:’ one knows the difference between the TRUTH of God’s Word and the STORIES of man he is told.
Because the former pagan KNOWS that heaven is REAL and NOT a story, he tries VERY HARD to act differently; to act in a way which will please the ONE who has the keys of HEAVEN. He does not always accomplish what he originally set out to do, BUT he does his level best to do so.
And that is one other IMPORTANT difference between when one is ‘born again’ and when one was a heathen: the new believer KNOWS he cannot measure up to all that God commands. BUT, he also KNOWS that God is unspeakably MERCIFUL about such human weakness.
AFTER ALL, God created man and is aware of all of man’s foibles.
It is a GOOD thing that God is so full of mercy and grace to the former sinner.
And THAT is one more thing that the former heathen KNOWS.
When the former heathen is remembering the past, back to when HE was a heathen, his mind turns over the most curious ‘rocks’ in one’s memory.
Perhaps this is all just part of being so grateful one has escaped the eternal torment which is man’s due?

DOES the reader have particular memories of the past which he re-visits from time-to-time?
It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?
