Dummy?

DUMMY

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
–Isaiah 55:9

Several weeks ago, a young man (who has been known to the writer for a long time) did something which wasn’t very well thought out.

Because of this, he was greeted with the epithetDummy!

He then answered with something that stuck with this writer.

“My mom says ‘God didn’t make no dummies!’ Every time Danny (his younger brother)” calls someone that, she ALWAYS says that!”

[He then expounded upon the many times he had heard someone–including himself–called a ‘dummy.’  And his mom was right there, seemingly after EVERY time, with her motherly advice.]

“I believe your mom is RIGHT! I can’t think of a Bible verse right now; the Bible doesn’t really have a verse about that, but I’m sure there are plenty which back it up if you think hard about it.”

God didn’t create any dummies.

WHAT does the reader think about that?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

While Strolling Through the End Times, One is VERY Likely to Encounter More Than One Type of Obstacle

OBSTACLE

As one strolls around the end times world, one encounters one’s fair share of OBSTACLES.

These obstructions are MOSTLY random in nature and the obstructions are those which are normally encountered.

HOWEVER, there will be a LOT of obstacles during the last days before Jesus comes back which are unusual and the ordinary person most likely will NOT have met.

NOW, the purpose of this article: some of the obstructions have been placed in a person’s way by OTHERS who wish the one obstructed NO good.

IF the reader continues on his merry way and believes that NO ONE wishes him ANY bad results at any time, then he will be in for a few surprises along the way.

IF the reader is a believer, then OCCASIONALLY the obstacles left will look big and imposing.

IF the reader is a believer, then he will face the wrath of Satan and Satan’s workers of iniquity.

“Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”
–Revelation 12:12

IF the reader is a worker of iniquity (EVEN IF he is not aware of it), then he might possibly be facing someone who is jealous of his talents, his position or his work results.

NOW, God has made MANY promises of PROTECTION in His Word.

MANY.

BUT, the worker of iniquity is NOT covered by these promises and is on his own.

NOT all obstacles are of the same type.

AND

The reader will likely face some obstructions which have been left by others.

This has been a friendly end times reminder.

HAS the reader faced any troubles he wondered if they might have had their origins with someone who wasn’t his biggest fan?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

The Christmas Season is Upon Us

CHRISTMAS

Even though Christmas is an event celebrated EVERY YEAR, there are still a few points which bear the ‘friendly reminders’ tag.

1- Even though Christmas time was NOT the time of birth for Jesus Christ, it is STILL the time when the whole world–whether it is serious, or (more likely) whether it is pretending–chooses to mark the occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ.

MORE

2- Even though the holiday season has degenerated largely into “What am I getting?”, there is still much joy to be found in the selecting a gift which brightens the time and the eyes of the receiver.

Selecting, obtaining, preparing a gift which the giver is sure to be needed and/or desired by the receiver is STILL an activity which marks the Christmas season in some households.

3- For some reason–perhaps because it is an occasion which occurs EVERY year?–Christmas is a time when many folks take a few moments (or longer) and unlock the memories they have stored away for safekeeping.

Once unlocked, these memories are examined (like a collection of old photographs).  The examination many times yields a warm feeling reminiscent of the original time the memory occurred.

Which seems to be the whole point in taking a few moments annually to examine such memories.

4- Almost EVERYTHING used to remind folks of Christmas–supposedly the birthday of Jesus–is of pagan origin.

Christmas trees, Christmas carols, Christmas gift-giving: all have their roots in once-pagan traditions.

It is hard to name one ‘Christmas’ tradition which is based on Jesus.

5- How many times has the reader heard the phrase, “Jesus is the reason for the season.” LATELY?

It seems that even the MOST COMMITTED have taken to using that phrase less as the year have gone by.

Perhaps they look around and SEE that that phrase is LARGELY only words and the actions necessary to back up those words are no longer performed?

FIVE friendly reminders…

Because the Christmas season is upon us.

HAS the reader been wrapped up in plans for the Christmas season?

AS deeply as in years past?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Of Great Import

“Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.”
–Hebrews 2:1

Some thoughts from God’s Word are so clear as to have NO disagreement surrounding them.

Others, not so much.

This piece is written in the hopes that, AFTER reading and digesting it,  there will be one LESS point which can be argued.

Recently, someone wondered about ‘what was important during the end times?’

BUT–upon reflection–it seemed that the person was making the remark MORE to himself than to others present.  So, that person seemed to be trying to make sense of the information he ALREADY HAD, rather than seek new information.

Instead of offering any new information, perhaps a distillation of what is already known would be more helpful?

What is important during the end times?

As with almost EVERYTHING ELSE, it depends upon whether a person is a believer (in God, in God’s Word, in Jesus Christ) or not.

IF one is a believer, then what is important are the THINGS OF GOD, the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN and ETERNAL LIFE.

ALL things which further these ends are important to the believer–because the THINGS OF GOD are important to the believer.

IF the person is an UNbeliever, then the THINGS OF GOD are not so important to him.

What IS important to him are the things of this present world (the things he can see, hear, touch: the things he can experience through his senses).

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
–1JOHN 2:15-16

Loving the things of the world and loving God: these two points are irreconcilable.

The believer KNOWS this from the word of God.

“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
–James 4:4

Men of the world (who often masquerade as men of God) MANY TIMES try and bridge the gulf between the two points by arguing that “understanding” and “differences of opinion” prevent the two sides from agreeing on that which is NOT agreeable.

EITHER the things of the world OR the things of God are very important to a person.

NOT BOTH.

One or the other.

Let this piece serve as a CLARIFICATION of that IMPORTANT end times truth.

DOES the reader have a ‘soft spot’ for a thing of the world?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Man Entertains Thoughts Which Are NOT From God

THOUGHTS

During the course of a normal, usual day, a man may entertain THOUSANDS of thoughts.

Some are organized into distinct sections.

Some are not.

Some are pondered because they might lead to material gain or some other advantage.

Others are considered “stray thoughts” which ‘pop up’ into our heads and we begin thinking on them BEFORE we really become aware of what we are doing.

IF one carries on a fairly constant, internal conversation with God, then one can easily ascertain that SOME of these thoughts come from the LORD Himself for our edification.

By the same token, IF one carries on a fairly constant, internal conversation with God, then one can ALSO easily ascertain that SOME of those thought do NOT come from the LORD.

Who puts those thoughts there?

Perhaps Satan himself.

Perhaps some who labor in league with Satan for NO good end.

Why does God allow His creation to struggle with such stray thoughts?

Perhaps God wants to see how man will react to such thoughts?

Man might turn away from such tempting fruit OR man might latch onto such fruit as a way to ‘outwit’ the God who created him.

Because God inhabits EVERY point in time–past, present and future–He KNOWS how each man will react to ‘stray thoughts.’

BUT maybe He wants to see what He already knows to be true, confirmed?

During the course of a normal, usual day, a man may entertain THOUSANDS of thoughts.

IF one carries on a fairly constant, internal conversation with God, then one can ALSO easily ascertain that SOME of those thought do NOT come from the LORD.

The reader may let this piece serve as a gentle reminder:

Beware of stray thoughts which suddenly appear!

HAS the reader ever had a stray thought from who-knows-where?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Do NOT Wait Until the Last Minute to Put Your Trust In the LORD

LAST MINUTE

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
–Proverbs 3:5

Trusting in the LORD brings a person ALL KINDS of benefits: some in this present life; some, in the eternal life to come.

HOWEVER, for a number of different reasons, a great number of folks put off putting their trust in the LORD.

Perhaps it is because they are “too busy” and tell themselves that they will get around to doing it “later“?

Perhaps it is because they tell themselves that it REALLY isn’t as important as some make it out to be?

Perhaps it is because they feel they have MORE IMPORTANT things to do?

There are those who will NEVER–for whatever reasons they may have–put their trust in the LORD.  Most of these folks feel that there is NO other who will look after their needs like they would.

BUT these are deceived and will reap the wages of deception.

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
–Proverbs 14:12

Some folks really do have the best of intentions concerning this circumstance, but one thing leads to another and, before you know it, they are smack-dab in the middle of the end times.  They see chaos and confusion unfolding on every side of their existence WITHOUT a reliable guide.

On this very important matter:

Do NOT wait.

Do NOT delay.

Do NOT procrastinate.

Depending on the LORD is a way of life and some practice will make things go more smoothly.

Do NOT wait until things are falling apart and God’s judgment is falling upon the earth and those who dwell upon it.

Turn to God NOW and be experienced at putting your trust in the LORD.

Oh, and do NOT fear man and the schemes of man.

“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.”
–Proverbs 29:25

MORE:  End Times Faith: Trusting in God Instead of Man is Frightening Prospect IF One Has Never Done It Before

What are you waiting for?

Start NOW!

Has it crossed the mind of the reader to make amends and start living his life in a NEW WAY?

What has stopped the reader from fulfilling this thought?

Determining One’s Heavenly Status

CHECKING ONE'S STATUS

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
–John 5:24

Recently, a SHORT discussion on how to determine one’s heavenly status was entertained.

The discussion was not very long because one of the participants in the discussion gave an answer which allowed VERY LITTLE argument.

The discussion went a little like the following.

“I’ve heard you say that believers are to treat other believers differently from non-believers.  How can you tell FOR SURE a believer from a non-believer?”

“How can you tell?  Oh, it’s fairly easy–particularly the ones who congregate in the Sunday social clubs we call the churches.  Just listen to them talk for a few moments.  That will tell you all you need to know.”

“How?”

“Well, believers focus on the things of the NEXT life.  UNbelievers focus on the things of this world.”

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
–1JOHN 2:15-16

“UNbelievers talk about their jobs, what they are planning to buy, where they are going on vacation, how their kids are doing in school, what the church is serving to eat next: the things of this present world. Believers focus on the NEXT life, KNOWING that this life is so short; that this life is only a test of where you spend the NEXT one.  That’s how you can tell.”

“Sounds easy.”

“It is–IF you do it.  Most do NOT do it, preferring to get sucked into the conversations rather than determining what those conversations indicate.”

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”
–Matthew 7:21-23

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
–Ecclesiastes 12:13

ABOUT WHICH is the reader more concerned: this present life or the one to come?

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
