The Way of the World

The reader has SURELY heard one of the popular, most prevalent phrases of our modern day: ‘the way of the world.’

And, boy, IS IT POPULAR!

Books, plays–and especially songs–have all had the phrase as their titles. In how many others did the phrase occur?  Innumerable.

For such a popular and well-known phrase, it is truly astounding how few know what ‘the way of the world’ is.

There are MANY, MANY more who THINK they know, but when push comes to shove, they do NOT.

Most usually, someone (in a play, a movie, or some other form of mass entertainment) upon hearing that someone or something did NOT go as they had planned, will sign and mumble, “Oh well!  That’s the way of the world.”

But what does that mean?

MOST folks who use the term seem to use it AS IF it REALLY was “that’s the way of the WICKED WORLD we live in.”

God’s Word agrees: the world and the things of the world are NOT friendly to God.  In other words, they are evil, wicked or foolish.

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
–1JOHN 2:15-16

James is even MORE CLEAR.

“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
–James 4:4

It seems that the world EXPECTS the men of the world to act as they are described in 2TIMOTHY.  Actually, the world REALLY is surprised whenever a man behaves contrary to that passage.

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”
2TIMOTHY 3:1-5

So, if the few believers and the many heathens BOTH believe that the men of the world are not to trusted, then why doesn’t everyone know what that phrase means?

Maybe it is because the pagans seem to believe that they can navigate through the treacherous waters of the world using their intellect?

But what if the ‘way of the world’ WAS NOT?

What if the ‘way of the world’ was COMPLETELY different than most imagine it to be?

IF one is thoroughly schooled in the many stories of the world, that person is considered to be ‘smart.’

BUT, how many of those stories are just STORIES?

How many of those stories are complete fiction?

Perhaps a SMALL percentage of the world’s “learned men” believe themselves to be above their fellows due to arcane knowledge.  BUT this small group only knows what it has been told.

What if their arcane knowledge was NOT true?

Here a question for all of readers who are harboring doubts: “Why would a Creator–who was righteous and good–create a world where the ‘way of the world’ was WICKED?”

Here’s ANOTHER question: “What if the ‘way of the world’ was NOT according to how WICKED men ruled, but what if the ‘way of the world’ was according to how God ruled?”

The Book of Revelation gives a fairly detailed view of how life on earth will be once Jesus returns. Though most the big ticket items are laid out for the reader, many of the details are ‘fill-in-the-blank.’

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”
–Revelation 21:1-5

In addition, men living on earth will have a PERFECT RULER in Jesus Christ.

So, one final question:

“What if the way of the world is NOT?”

Of Great Import

Some thoughts from God’s Word are so clear as to have NO disagreement surrounding them.

Others, not so much.

This piece is written in the hopes that, AFTER reading and digesting it,  there will be one LESS point which can be argued.

Recently, someone wondered about ‘what was important during the end times?’

BUT–upon reflection–it seemed that the person was making the remark MORE to himself than to others present.  So, that person seemed to be trying to make sense of the information he ALREADY HAD, rather than seek new information.

Instead of offering any new information, perhaps a distillation of what is already known would be more helpful?

What is important during the end times?

As with almost EVERYTHING ELSE, it depends upon whether a person is a believer (in God, in God’s Word, in Jesus Christ) or not.

IF one is a believer, then what is important are the THINGS OF GOD, the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN and ETERNAL LIFE.

ALL things which further these ends are important to the believer–because the THINGS OF GOD are important to the believer.

IF the person is an UNbeliever, then the THINGS OF GOD are not so important to him.

What IS important to him are the things of this present world (the things he can see, hear, touch: the things he can experience through his senses).

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
–1JOHN 2:15-16

Loving the things of the world and loving God: these two points are irreconcilable.

The believer KNOWS this from the word of God.

“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
–James 4:4

Men of the world (who often masquerade as men of God) MANY TIMES try and bridge the gulf between the two points by arguing that “understanding” and “differences of opinion” prevent the two sides from agreeing on that which is NOT agreeable.

EITHER the things of the world OR the things of God are very important to a person.

NOT BOTH.

One or the other.

Let this piece serve as a CLARIFICATION of that IMPORTANT end times truth.

WINTER SOLSTICE

It’s almost time for the Winter Solstice celebrations.

OF COURSE, these are PAGAN events, celebrating a PAGAN holiday (holy day).

And OF COURSE, the media will be promoting the day as “the shortest day of the year” OR “the first day of winter.”

Certainly the day is all of that BUT the REASON the day gets so much media attention is NOT that it’s the ‘first day of winter’ OR ‘the shortest day of the year.’

The reason the day is so regularly marked by the media is that the day is a PAGAN HOLIDAY.

There will be the usual media shots of Stonehenge–a gathering place for heathens for centuries. And there will be the USUAL great amount of media stories aimed at WHY WE CELEBRATE THE WINTER SOLSTICE.

The days will then begin to get longer–as time is marked by a largely pagan world–culminating on the SUMMER SOLSTICE, which the world  celebrates as the LONGEST day of the year.

HAS the reader marked the Winter Solstice on his calendar yet?

Changing One’s Direction During the End Times?

When one was younger, one was CERTAIN that folks–once they SAW and EXPERIENCED the WRATH OF GOD during the end times–would change their ways.

After all, who wouldn’t?

HOWEVER, with age comes wisdom–sometimes.

And NOW?

It doesn’t look like a LOT of folks will change the direction they are going (repent).

EVEN when the WRATH OF GOD is falling all around them.

The capacity of humans to explain away certain things–MOSTLY BAD THINGS–is almost unending.

IN FACT, it is STRONGLY suspected that SOME of the most wicked will be bragging to friends how they are “not afraid” of some ‘natural disasters.’

Sad.

Which is why so many will grit their teeth and swear that they’ll make it through the WRATH of GOD just fine.

WILL the reader be convinced of the seriousness of the circumstance?

The Blandishments of This World

BLANDISHMENT

Blandishment:

something that tends to coax or cajole: ALLUREMENT —often used in plural…

So many can recognize whenever someone else uses (or attempts to use) a BLANDISHMENT OF THIS WORLD.

Why does the reader believe this to be so?

(IF the reader does believe this to be so).

(It is helpful that MOST blandishments can be said to appeal to a human appetite of some sort. In this way, one may get to know the ‘neighborhoods’ in which blandishments thrive. THIS knowledge usually is helpful to identifying a blandishment.)

Folks use (or attempt to use) blandishments to ease their way in the world.

Others–who do not or cannot match these appeals–USUALLY sniff or snort or make some other nasal sound WHILE downtalking the person who used the blandishment to their advantage.

HOWEVER, very little is said about that most disturbing of circumstances involving blandishments.

What happens when the blandishment is NOT so alluring that the person TURNS IT DOWN?

Does the one offering the bribery of appetite fulfillment shrug their shoulders and think, “Well, better luck next time…“?

OR, does that person feel a little lessened that someone TURNED DOWN an appetite-pleasing tidbit when most others would have accepted?

What will all of the people who are USED to offering blandishments of one sort or another do when the perfect judge JUDGES them perfectly–which is to say, He is NOT susceptible to being bribed?

“For there is no respect of persons with God.”
–Romans 2:11

The results which are somewhat explained five verses later.

“In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.”
–Romans 2:16

A person may make his LIFE IN THIS WORLD easier and more pleasant by offering blandishments: food, drink, sexual favors, acclaim of the world, etc.

What will their ETERNAL LIFE be like when those blandishments can NO longer be counted on to work their magic?

WHAT does the reader believe?

What the World Offers

THE WORLD

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

When once one was a HEATHEN, one looked to the world for MANY things.

The world provided information about any number of topics.

The world provided amusement in the form of ENTERTAINMENT and PASTIMES.

The world provided the MUSIC which seemed to accompany any and all parts of modern life.

The world provided AMENITIES, which seemed to make life just a LITTLE more bearable for those forced to live it.

The world provided a GREAT NUMBER of NARRATIVES (stories) about how good and benevolent the world was, is and always has been.

In short, the world provided all of the above, PLUS money (to buy cars, houses and other things of the world), things (which could be bought for money), acclaim and recognition, and AMUSEMENTS AND TRIVIALITIES to while away the time.

THE WORLD was the source of all that was seemingly good…

…when one was a heathen.

Eventually, one left the path of the heathen and became a member of the kingdom of heaven.

During this time, it was discovered that one’s outlook THEN changed drastically aswell.

The world and the things of the world THEN didn’t look so bright and shiny as they had looked earlier.

Those things THEN looked corrupted.

“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” –2PETER 1:4

Again, one’s outlook THEN changed drastically.

No longer was the world looked upon as a CORNUCOPIA OF GOOD THINGS.

No longer was the world a provider of what man did not have.

No longer did all paths appear to lead to the world.

No longer was the hunger for the world and the things of the world INSATIABLE; the insatiable became fully satiated.

One lost interest in the world and what the world offers.

Because the world and what the world has to offer is TEMPORARY; fleeting and brief.

When one was no longer a HEATHEN, one became fascinated with what is real; what is PERMANENT; what is lasting and enduring.

It is THEN that the former heathen discovers (to his great surprise and disappointment) that the world is NOT his friend.

“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”

…And whoever is an enemy of God is an enemy of someone who is a member of the kingdom of heaven.

…And in the last days, one VERY MUCH should desire to be a member of the kingdom of heaven.

MAN: A Chance Speck of Life/Chemical Goo Amid a Vast Cosmos OR a Unique Part of God’s Creation?

IN THE BEGINNING

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
–Psalm 139:14

Any reader who has paid strict attention over the past twenty years or so has noticed that the world we live in keeps getting BIGGER and OLDER.

A lot of the BIGGER has come from the various stories from OUTER SPACE. Asteroids are bigger; planets are bigger; EVERYTHING is BIGGER.

Has the reader EVER wondered why this might be?

This all comes on the heels of man’s great shrinking.

Man keeps getting SMALLER in relation to almost EVERYTHING.

Has the reader EVER wondered why this might be?

The stories of the world (as well as the world’s special authority in such matters: SCIENCE!) keep relegating man to a smaller and more insignificant part of an ENLARGING COSMOS.

In many tellings, man has been reduced to little more than an insignificant speck of chemical goo we call LIFE, as man wanders around in the ever-increasing COSMOS.

And not only an insignificant speck of chemical goo BUT a CHANCE speck: created from nothing and randomized as all get-out.

NOW, opposed to all of this is God’s Word.

God’s Word declares that EACH man is a unique part of God’s creation.

SCIENCE! can spin a great number of tales about a great number of things, BUT it fails miserably to spin a reasonable-sounding tale of how life began.

The best it can come up with is a story about how various chemicals got thrown together and–Voila!–LIFE!

Never mind that it has NEVER happened since OR that SCIENCE!, in all of it wonders, has not been able to replicate such a UNIQUE, ONE-OF-A-KIND, chance occurrence.

God’s Word on the other hand, gets straight to the point.

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
–Genesis 2:7

(Maybe that’s why SCIENCE! has had such a difficult time with life?)

Man was just NOT an AFTERTHOUGHT of God.

Man was the CENTERPIECE of God’s creation.

And this was declared in God’s Word.

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”

SO, the reader may do a little investigating and choose which it is which seems to have a better handle on the facts: the stories of man OR God’s Word.

[At the very least, it would appear that the modern is so wrapped up in himself, he would naturally choose God’s Word (out of self-interest) since God’s Word emphasizes EACH person created.]

HAS the reader ever noticed that, in the tales of the world, man keeps getting smaller and more insignificant?

HAS the reader ever wondered why this might be?

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

DOES the reader believe he is saved?

Make Your Calling and Election Sure: End Times Survival

DOES the reader believe he is NOT saved?

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation
