“Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.”
–Joel 3:14
There have always been those who reacted to grave warnings with mockery.
There have been scoffers for centuries.
There have always been those who desired to do evil and who treated any calls to change their behavior as a big joke.
These disbelievers will be seemingly everywhere in the last days.
“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
–2PETER 3:3-4
“How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.”
–Jude 1:18
But those who mocked warnings sent from God have always been present.
2700-2800 years ago, the prophet Amos brought warnings from God to the Israelites. Some reacted as those in the last days will, asking “Where is the day of the LORD? Why hasn’t it come already?”
And so Amos brought another warning.
“Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.”
–Amos 5:18
Woe to those amongst you, that mock at the tidings of this sad day of the Lord; and scornfully ask, why it doth not come, and when it will come! they shall find that it will come, smally to their comfort: they shall find it is not a day for mirth or pleasure, but for heaviness and sorrow.
—Hall’s Explication of Hard Texts
“The prophet had mentioned “the day of the Lord,” and some of the people expressed a desire of its arrival; either scornfully deriding his message, or presumptuously expecting the interposition of God in their favor. But their scorn or presumption would ensure woe to them. The day of the Lord would be to them a season of the utmost distress and despondency, without any mixture of joy and prosperity. One calamity would succeed to another, so that they that escaped the first would be destroyed by the second or third; as if a man, having fled from a lion, should be met by a bear; or having got into a house fatigued and alarmed, and leaning against a way to recover himself, should there be stung to death by a serpent.”
—Thomas Scott
The day of the LORD (when Jesus Christ returns to earth) is a day of vengeance and slaughter.
“Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.”
–Isaiah 13:9
Those who have ANY wisdom would do well NOT to mock the climax of human history (the day of the LORD).
“Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.”
–Joel 1:15
DOES the reader assign the Day of the LORD to the “The Bible is a joke from a long time ago” file?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
