Back in the hedonistic free-for-all known as The 1960s (and often into the 1970s and 1980s as well), no matter how loud or obnoxious a party got, there was ALWAYS at least one person who would bring up the “God Defense” if the conversation turned to smoking marijuana–which was illegal in all 50 states in all circumstances.

“Why do they have to pick on pot? Smoking a little pot never hurt anyone. It’s all natural! And besides, God put it here! If it was bad, God wouldn’t have put it on earth for us to enjoy!”

Now, never mind that the person who usually brought up this line of reasoning didn’t know Jesus from a carburetor.

Never mind that the same “defense” could be used to justify practically ANYTHING used illegally in this world.

“Yes, officer, I did beat that man to death with this baseball bat. But you know, God put the wood here for that bat, so it can’t be bad!”

Never mind that most who smoked, drank and carried on with drugs, sex and rock ‘n’ roll NEVER concerned themselves with “all-natural” ingredients any other time.

“God put it here!” was one argument that few in the 1960s-1980s were willing to challenge.

And so, regardless of the eye-rolling which went on when the statement made its appearance, the “God Defense” was a regular throughout the smoky haze of that time period.

Tough times bring tough questions.

For the times in which we live, one important question is “What is one to do?”

The violence to come – Came very close to assigning this to the Media Narratives section (it IS a narrative). However, whether intentional or not, it does have elements of the truth in it.

America is due for great violent upheavals–but not because of Donald Trump, who (in the real world as opposed to the fantasy constructed by media and entertainment) is a non-entity.

The mystery of iniquity has been planning violence in America for some time and have stoked all of the component parts.

The end of their years of working in the darkness for chaos is almost at hand.

Meanwhile, the masses will do what they always do: whistle past the graveyard, hope for the best and pretend nothing is wrong until they are swept away by the situation.

“What is one to do?”

A significant number will prepare physically; while a few will hit upon the right path and call upon the name of the LORD.

Confusion in the Churches

From time to time, various interesting bits and pieces arrive IN THE EMAIL, including this nugget which was received over the weekend (emphasis added).

In 1983, I wrote a book…Here was the situation as I recall it: interest rates in the US were over 20 percent; the stock market was around 700 on the DOW, and the experts were predicting a crash that would make 1929 seem like prosperity; the housing market was dead, with tens of thousands of houses unsold and apartments vacant; the most popular books in Christian bookstores were about “the death of the dollar, the imminent international financial collapse, the pending Soviet attack on Israel, etc.”

NOW, one can easily understand why cash money and wealth, a comfortable life and the things of the world are so important to those who inhabit the churches. BUT, why would such topics interest a true Christian believer?

Jesus summed up the correct attitude of believers in Matthew 6:24-26.

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?”

Today’s churches are so full of those concerned with the wealth of this world that “chasing money” is a popular end times sermon topic–if only to emphasize to the church folk that they are not alone in their covetousness: EVERYBODY DOES IT!

One foot in the church, the other foot in the world

Can you say with confidence that you are a no compromised Christian?

TODAY’S “FEUDS”

Everyone LOVES to hear and see DRAMA, right?

And what is more dramatic than an apparent feud among the beautiful people, right?

Particularly if the “feud” is between celebrities, politicos or royal nabobs?

What would the beautiful people do with themselves if not for their never-ending feuds?

Satan’s Mouthpiece (the Corporate Media) has always had a problem: what to do when too many of the rich and celebrated have NOTHING “newsworthy” to do. When the media gets tired of reporting what the rich and celebrated are wearing, they turn to the tried-and-true method of of fake “feuds” to generate cheap, plastic “news.” One popular singer’s entire marketing campaign over the years seems to have been based on engaging in one “feud” after another. But, as the “victims” appear to be primarily the singer’s “fans,” it’s hard to get too worked up over the ruse.

Sports, politics and celebrity culture, European royalty–wherever the rich and celebrated congregate: these are the arenas where readers can most often find stories of “feuds.”

Oh–and pro wrestling…

One can depend on those who labor for the mystery of iniquity to act, in not only an EVIL manner, but also in a very repetitive one as well.

Case in point: when two followers of Satan are working together, one of the first things they do is establish that they 1-do not like each other; 2- they hate each other; or, 3- are fighting against one another.

Democrats and Republicans, Russia and the USA, members of the same family who toil together for evil ends, famous celebrities who are “feuding” with each other: it happens so often, one occasionally has to wonder,

Those in the mystery of iniquity–who toil in the darkness JUST BENEATH the upper tier–many times suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune which those who make up the many can only imagine.

Call it the “twists and turns of iniquity.”

Yes, the ones the public knows as the rich and celebrated; the “celebrities;” the “billionaire;” the “beautiful people;” the “leaders of the world;” the “glitterati“: though they live in circumstances much more elevated than the rest of their fellows, they also must march to a stricter drummer who demands much more of them BECAUSE they are the more privileged.

And their mantra is a corruption of Luke 12:48.

“For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.”

(Proof that Satan knows Scripture. He just has no idea how to apply it.)

Luke 12:48 is also the basis of the popular comic book phrase made famous by Marvel web-slinger, Spider-Man.

“With great power comes great responsibility.”

One of the worst situations the worker of iniquity places himself into is looking for PROMISES to be fulfilled by those who regularly lie and break their promises to others.

Those who covet ALWAYS want MORE: more money, more power, more prestige, more control over other men.

More.

And they are promised more–IF they deliver more for those who make such promises.

And so, they not only WORK hard, they SCHEME hard: rubbing their hand together in their best imitation of a cartoon villain as they hatch their plots to further the plans of their masters–and thus, realize the promises they have been made.

But the best laid plans of mice and men…

IF the schemes of the workers of iniquity pan out;

IF the work they have done furthers their masters’ aims;

IF it suits the ones calling the shots:

Promises are SOMETIMES HONORED.

Otherwise, they are not.

The “Why?’s” are given, but unconvincing.

And so, the workers of iniquity are left holding a bag of “What If’s.–and concocting their own versions of what-might-have-been.

This, however, requires no great effort: it is not surprising those who regularly lie to others can lie most effectively to themselves.

Oh, the twists and turns of iniquity!

HABITS

It has been said that man is a creature of habit.

What is not so much discussed is

Why so many of man’s habits are bad?
How did man acquire so many bad habits?
Why are these habits so much harder to break then to begin?

Science! and its faithful traveling companion, Medicine!, have a LOT of stories about habits which claim to offer answers.

OF COURSE, Science! and Medicine! have a LOT of stories about EVERYTHING.

Today’s question has to do with “How do we fall into the snares of our habits?”

But in particular, “How do we fall into the ILLOGICAL habits we become creatures of?”

While researching something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, a story about Starbucks (the modern chain made famous for serving $5 and $7 dollar milkshakes) was unearthed. This brought to mind the remembrance of a woman who once made a daily trip of an hour EACH WAY to frequent a Starbucks–which then charged her $4 for a beverage she decided she MUST have.

Eventually, the woman overcame her lust for $4 coffee.

It was ILLOGICAL that for several years this woman made her daily trips to spend money at a Starbucks. The costs alone made it so–as well as the costs in time and wear-and-tear on her vehicle.

It was ILLOGICAL that for several years, this woman made her daily trips to Starbucks–yet often professed to derive no special pleasure from the beverages she bought.

Upon asking how her Starbucks coffee was, often as not, she would confess that “I’m not sure how it tasted. I don’t really remember drinking it on the way home. I was thinking about something else. But it had to be good. It’s ALWAYS good.“

It was ILLOGICAL that a Starbucks sixty miles away was the target of her daily pilgrimage no matter the condition of the roads or the weather. Rain, snow, sleet, ice, hail: no element seemed bad enough to deter her trip for over-priced coffee.

Put aside for a moment that one day the authorities of the world announce coffee to be the elixir of life; the next, that coffee is a demon’s brew of pure poison to all who ingest it.

One can know when one has fallen into a bad habit.

How can one know?

Simple: the bad habit becomes a very, very, VERY hard behavior to forgo–even if the person with the bad habit KNOWS what they are doing is bad for them.

Why this meandering discussion of habits, mostly bad?

There a few reasons.

1- Habits are the building blocks of one’s routine.

And routine, believe it or not, is going to drag a great many to hell because so many routines contain so much that goes against God’s Word.

2- Routines and habits, once established, give the illusion that they will continue on forever.

Even when it is apparent they will not.

3- In times of uncertainty and trouble, many turn to their habits and routines for comfort.

Instead of God.

NO habit or routine can give true, lasting comfort.

God can.

This discussion will continue.
