One of the tricks to lying with statistics is to be exact. It makes people think you know what you’re talking about.
A good example is this quote (from a just-received email) from George Washington: “99 percent of failures come from people who make excuses.”

World’s First recreational marijuana sales begin in Colorado – Well, not exactly.
A BRIEF HISTORY LESSON: What most Americans don’t know is that marijuana was perfectly legal throughout the USA–and available in most drugstores for about $1 per one-ounce bag–until the 1930s. It was used for the nausea of pregnancy and other woes.
When the sensational Hollywood movie Reefer Madness was hyped, marijuana was criminalized. In histories of Reefer Madness, it’s always claimed that a mysterious “church group” supposedly financed the movie. But this group is never named and no proof is ever offered for this claim. When’s the last time readers saw a movie spawned by a “church group?” It is never adequately explained how the movie was passed along to Hollywood from a “church group.”
[A good example of revisionist history is this Wikipedia article: Legal history of cannabis in the United States. The article attempts to make it seem that cannabis was labeled as “poison” in 1905, but the truth remains that the American Medical Association took the official position of fighting the criminalization of marijuana in the 1930s until the feds began directing their ire against doctors. If marijuana was considered a “poison” since 1905, then why did Congress pass the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937? This legislation placed a tax on the recreational and medical sales of marijuana in the USA.] The “official” history of cannabis in the USA is a twisted and tortuous one.
Anyway, about 30 years after Reefer Madness, marijuana–like government-produced LSD–was promoted to the youth using the Hippie movement and, because it was illegal, the price was much more than $1 a bag. Like alcohol prohibition, the marijuana prohibition served to introduce the vice to millions using the allure of the “forbidden.”
So, there were billions of dollars to be made by the criminalizing of marijuana. So who made most of that money?
Surely someone in the Corporate Media is aware of this, right? Apparently, marijuana being legal for most of America’s past is the history that dares not speak its name.

This is what the controlled media imagines that Christians talk like (and it’s not known if the coach is a Christian). Actually, it’s what pretend Christians imagine that Christians talk like (think the Westboro Baptist shills. Although the folks at Westboro belong to no Baptist organization, someone is paying Fred Phelps and company a pretty penny to masquerade as a noxious pseudo-Christians.).
This is the second “gay NFL” story to be featured in the Corporate Media this week. Look for a homosexual NFL player–or two or three–to make a public proclamation soon.
Viking coach says “No way!” – This is the way the discussion is framed by the media: bigotry. Not that lost souls have a hope in Jesus Christ. No, it’s all bigotry because some Christians believe contrary to the Media/government/entertainment/politician/celebrity party line. It’s groupthink in the USA 2014-style.
And the USA is exporting it worldwide.

Other evangelicals talk about “practicing the presence,” perhaps by employing mood music, cultivating solitude and silence, or practicing other spiritual disciplines to experience it. Often spelled with an upper case “P,” masses of evangelical Christians are passionate about experiencing Jesus’ Presence, that somehow in an exciting new way God will speak to them. In his newly published book, “Another Jesus” Calling: How False Christs Are Entering the Church Through Contemplative Prayer,[3] Warren Smith points out that, in her best-selling evangelical book Jesus Calling (Thomas Nelson, 2004),[4] Sarah Young uses “The word ‘Presence’… more than 365 times….” He notes further that, “the term [presence] is also commonly used in New Age/New Spirituality.”[5]
As the New Age is well aware, there is a Presence (the Force, Odic Force, Vril) to be entered into in these last days.
The first time this writer became aware of the concept of “Presence” (large P) was in 1976, when Led Zeppelin–who in 1971 issued an album with three graphic representations of 666 on the cover–released a quirky album that, on the surface, made no sense. After some inquiry, “the Presence” was explained in a proper New Age way.
“The album was completed on 26 November 1975. This was the day before Thanksgiving, and in a telephone call to Swan Song Records, Page suggested the album be named Thanksgiving.[2] [NOTE: Cute story. Thanksgiving isn’t celebrated in the UK–there is no tradition of anything like it–as the English rocker Page was certainly aware.] This idea was quickly dropped, in favour of a title that was thought would represent the powerful force and presence that the band members felt surrounded the group.[2]“
Now, here we are 38 years later, this writer no longer a heathen. But nevertheless, the Presence is bigger than ever and here’s an article about it showing up in the American church
[SIDE NOTE:Some may think Psalm 139:7 contradicts what the author writes about the presence of God not being in hell. But believers know that there are no contradictions in Scripture, so a reconciliation must be sought. The absence of God’s presence (or the face of God) is not an absence of God’s omnipresence. As Matthew Henry puts it: “We cannot see God, but he can see us.”]
But the article is thought-provoking in more than one way: the new covenant of Jesus Christ.
In particular, Hebrews 6 covers this as well.
“Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.”
“For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.”
“For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.”
“But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.”
“For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.”

God in His great and gracious mercy sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to provide the blood which confirmed a covenant; a “better covenant, which was established upon better promises.”
“And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.”

And though believers now have the ultimate covenant–not one of mere shapes of things to come, but the Spirit of the Living God Himself dwelling within–sadly, there are many who seek for an Old Testament experience. Though Christ’s temple is not a building made with hands but the body of believers, there are those who hunger for a lesser, physical temple experience.
“But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;”
—Hebrews 9:11
The death and resurrection of Jesus was the ultimate realization of God’s covenant. Regardless of what’s been taught in the popular culture, the Old Covenant is not coming back: it’s of none effect. The law cannot–and never did–save. When Jesus proclaimed “It is finished.” he meant it. God won’t return to the law and any future possible building dedicated to animal sacrifices would trample on the once-and-for-all sacrifice of Jesus.
It would be just another building offering sacrifices God doesn’t acknowledge.

Just for fun, let’s take the most hospitable of the uninhabited planets: Mars.

So how cold does it get on Mars (the best of the uninhabited planets)?
Up to minus 225 degrees F (according to Wikipedia)..
Wow! That’s cold! So Winnepeg was 225 degree below zero?
“Almost” according to CBC Manitoba. Actually, CBC Manitoba said:
“In terms of astonishing weather facts, it doesn’t get much more impressive than being as cold as a distant planet for a day.
The Manitoba Museum is reporting Winnipeg’s temperatures on Tuesday were actually as cold as the surface of Mars.”
Turns out that Winnepeg got down as low as “-29 C” which translates to 20 below F.
So does any of this weather mania smack just a little bit of sensationalism and hype? Maybe just a little?
