A FEW Finer Points Concerning Eternal Salvation

Heaven: God reveals Himself

“Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him”
–Hebrews 5:8-9

One would think that something as important as ETERNAL SALVATION would be cut and dried; settled beyond the merest shadow of a doubt. After all, the committed follower of God and His Son, Jesus Christ is concerned with spending ETERNITY with them.

BUT, one would not count on Satan and his workers of iniquity and the many stories they tell about eternal salvation in order to CONFUSE and CONFOUND.

One would NOT count on the legions of church folk who have their own stories to tell about ETERNAL SALVATION.  Many (most?) of these stories make MAN the center of attention–even if man has NOTHING to do with that important aspect of God’s love.

Besides all of that, God’s Word may itself contribute to the confusion–particularly to those who WREST Scripture instead of merely FOLLOWING its plain meaning.

“And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”
–2PETER 3:15-16

In fact, God’s Word only contains ONE reference to ETERNAL LIFE: which is found in Hebrews 5:9.

Therefore, it has been decided to present a few of the finer points of eternal salvation to the reader in the hopes that he will avoid all such confusion.

[NOTE: The reader may be aware of ALL of these finer points–OR, he may be UNAWARE of them ALL.  Perhaps the reader was aware of all but one–HOWEVER, the one may be the point which contributes to the reader’s eternal salvation.]

1- Eternal salvation is a gracious gift from a loving God to His creation–especially MAN.

Although the church folk learn a great many stories about ‘making a decision for Christ,’ it is GOD ALONE who decides who is eternally saved or not.

NOT man.

“For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”
–Romans 9:15-16

2- We do NOT choose God.  God chooses US.

” Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”
–John 15:16

This makes all of those who tell such PRETTY stories about ‘deathbed conversions’ to be LIARS.

Deathbed Conversions: Another Tall Tale?

(Just for the reader’s info: God is not lonely.  God does NOT sit in heaven wondering if anyone will show up.]

3- NO ONE is saved UNTIL he is “born again” SPIRITUALLY.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
–John 3:3

When a man is born again spiritually, he receives God’s Holy Spirit to live within him for the rest of his days. NO MAN is eternally saved UNTIL he experiences the new birth.

4- Belief in Jesus Christ as the Messiah is necessary to be eternally saved.

God’s Word spells this out repeatedly.

“And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”
–Acts 16:30-31

As Jesus is recorded as stating:

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”
–John 6:47

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
–Romans 10:9-10

Who can tell how God works? Perhaps God’s great mercy is activated by a belief on His Son, Jesus Christ? Perhaps a belief on Jesus is all that is required to experience the mercy of God? Regardless, God’s Word STRONGLY advises a belief on Jesus Christ to enjoy eternal salvation.

As the reader can see, ETERNAL SALVATION revolves around God’s mercy and a belief on Jesus Christ, His Son. Man enjoys being the center of attention–even when that attention is focused on WRONG information about ETERNAL SALVATION.

HOWEVER, it is about God.

NOT man.

HAS the reader considered the finer points of eternal salvation?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

The Basics of Eternal Salvation, Step-By-Step

STEP-BY-STEP

Although it has been written about in these pages EXTENSIVELY over the past ten years, there seems to be an amount of confusion which still surrounds someone receiving ETERNAL SALVATION.

God’s Word is CLEAR on the matter, so it was decided to give folks a STEP-by-STEP Guide to ETERNAL SALVATION–to lessen or eliminate completely that confusion.

1- God saves those He wants to save through His great and enduring MERCY.

“For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”
–Romans 9:15

It is NOT the person who claims they desire eternal salvation’s decision, but God’s ALONE. God’s Word declares this truth CLEARLY.

“So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”
–Romans 9:16

And who can question the mind of God, which is higher than anything man has EVER had access to.

” For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”
–Romans 11:34-36

2- The one who is granted ETERNAL SALVATION must believe on Jesus Christ: that he is the Son of God and that He was sent to earth to save mankind.

“And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”
–Acts 16:30-31

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
–John 3:36

Those who get bogged down in trying to decide which came first, God’s mercy or a belief on Jesus are like those in the discussion of Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

NOWHERE in God’s Word is there any hint of an answer to this question.

Perhaps God’s Mercy caused a belief in Jesus?

Perhaps God’s Mercy was ACTIVATED by a belief in Jesus?

It matters little.  One MUST have a sincere, true, REAL belief in Jesus Christ to gain eternal salvation.

3- The one who SINCERELY and TRULY desires salvation THEN experiences that spiritual rebirth (born again) and the subsequent gifting of God’s Holy Spirit.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
–John 3:3

And that’s about it.

A man must possess a strong desire to be eternally saved from hellfire in order to be granted eternal salvation.

Eternal Salvation is For Those Who WANT It

God’s mercy does NOT extend to those who want eternal salvation SOLELY for the purpose of avoiding eternal torment.

IS the reader less confused now?

The Comforts Offered By End Times Religions

Some time was spent this past week contemplating the RELIGIONS OF THE WORLD.

The Triumph of Religion–and Satan–in the End Times

Religion and Happiness

There are a number of different belief systems present in the modern world.  They ALL offer their adherents a variety of comforts.  IN FACT, one of the attractions of religion is that it offers its followers COMFORT in a world which is sadly lacking in such things.

There is a GREAT difference between CHRISTIANITY and other belief systems.

Religion and Christianity

Religion Disappearing in the End Times?

Christianity is NOT a religion.

CHRISTIANITY AND RELIGION: Important Differences Between the Two

For one reason, Christianity centers on GOD’S mercy and man’s inadequacies absent that mercy.

NARROW ROAD: True Christianity is a Lonely Road

The end times religions THRIVE, NOT because they offer their followers the TRUTH, but because they offer their followers COMFORTS for various circumstances of their lives.

The end times religions THRIVE, NOT because they offer their followers the TRUTH, but because they tell their followers man can be better IF ONLY he will follow the tenets of said religion.

It is almost as if religions offer comfort as a ‘come-on‘ in order to pick up followers.

Man greatly desires COMFORT.

Religions offer COMFORT.

Therefore, man is a BIG fan of religion.

ALSO, religions are VERY convenient, not demanding much from their followers.

Man enjoys CONVENIENCE.

Religions offer CONVENIENCE.

Therefore, man is a BIG fan of religion.

CHRISTIANITY is all about the SAVED man making MANY changes.

Changes in his attitude and beliefs, which result in changes in behavior.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
–2 CORINTHIANS 5:17

CHRISTIANITY is VERY different from RELIGION.

CHRISTIANITY does offer its FEW followers COMFORT, because it is the TRUTH.

CHRISTIANITY is NOT convenient.

CHRISTIANITY makes demands on its followers, unlike RELIGION.

CHRISTIANITY provides evidence (proof) of its existence to those who convert–unlike RELIGION, which offers the stories of its exalted men.

RELIGION emphasizes MAN.

CHRISTIANITY emphasizes GOD and GOD’S mercy to MAN.

Some time was spent this past week contemplating the RELIGIONS OF THE WORLD.

The claimed COMFORTS of RELIGION are ONLY comforting IF the follower doesn’t look too closely at the supposed benefits of said religion.

DOES the reader receive COMFORT from his religion?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

“ALL Israel Shall Be Saved”

—AN EXAMINATION OF THE DECLARATION IN ROMANS 11:26-27

ALL

“And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.”
–Romans 11:26-27

A great many of Hebrew backgrounds have pinned their hopes of avoiding the lake of fire and eternal torment COMPLETELY on the verse in Romans 11.

“And so all Israel shall be saved.”

Whenever a Jew does something that he KNOWS is contrary to what God has commanded in His Word, he looks to Romans 11 for COMFORT.  Isn’t this verse part of God’s Word?  And isn’t God’s Word the TRUTH?

BUT, all who desire to know what God has declared on the matter–rather than beating the square peg of God’s Word into the round hole of their preconceived notions–should investigate Romans 9.

Romans 9 offers further information on the matter.

“For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.”
–Romans 9:6-8

NOT everyone of the Hebrew persuasion is a Jew. Actually, NOT everyone of the Jewish persuasion is a Jew.

Those who have wandered through this life with their Romans 11 blinders on need to read the previous few chapters in Romans, particularly Romans 9.

Israel will NOT necessarily be the families which have called themselves “Jews” for CENTURIES.  Israel will include those who previously were known as “Gentiles” or “pagans.”

As Jesus pointed out

“And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”
–John 10:16

The disciples of Jesus had NO problems on this point.

“And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.”
–Acts 15:7-9

“Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”
–Colossians 3:11-13

“Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.”
–Acts 28:28

“That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”
–Galatians 3:14

So ALL Israel WILL be saved.

BUT, all Israel is NOT the same group of folks that some have imagined them to be.

This is VERY MUCH like the people who insist they are going to heaven–never mind that their lives and their behaviors laughs at God and His commandments–because God’s Word says that God wants to save ALL men.

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
–2PETER 3:9

“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”
–1TIMOTHY 2:3-4

God Himself declared (through His Word):

“Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?”
–Ezekiel 18:23

It should be pointed out that eternal salvation is NOT a ‘Get Out of Jail Free‘ card to be played when all else fails.

Just as Romans 11 does NOT apply to all who are born into a Jewish background, God’s eternal salvation is a matter of God bestowing salvation on those He considers worthy of salvation.

God knows who is naughty or nice.

God’s Word is true: ALL Israel will be saved.

‘ALL Israel’ is just not the group that some suppose it to be.

DOES the reader believe he is bound for heaven because of one particular Bible verse–to the exclusion of ALL else?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Eternal Salvation: One of the Stories the Churches LOVE to Tell Their Listeners

TELLING STORIES

It depends upon the individual as which stories are believed as told by the churches concerning one’s eternal salvation.

The churches (naturally) do not follow God’s Word on the topic of eternal salvation.

To give their listeners something to believe in–instead of God’s Word–the churches provide a NUMBER of different stories and supporting information as to eternal salvation.

FIRST off, the churches tell stories to get their listeners to feel better about their earthly situation.  There are a NUMBER of stories told, from the one about how, to get to heaven, you have to ‘make a decision for Jesus’–AS IF Jesus was so hard up for followers, he just sits around in heaven waiting for a church person to ‘make a decision for Him.’

God’s Word informs the reader that it does NOT matter if the church person ‘makes a decision for Jesus’ or not. ‘Making a decision for Jesus’ does NOT get someone a ticket to God’s throne room.

“So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”
–Romans 9:16

IF someone makes a ‘decision for Jesus,’ they will likely end up in the same place they were headed before they made their decision.

IF God shows a bit of mercy to that same person?  Well, that’s a completely different story.

This article was written for a church person who proclaimed (to anyone who was within earshot) “Well, I choose to believe the church stories.”

Does it matter what one CHOOSES to believe?

OF course it does.  CHOOSING TO BELIEVE something other than what is written in God’s Word is the same as NOT believing God’s Word.  ALL nonbelievers end up in the same place.

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
–Revelation 21:8

Some church folk take solace in their support of their church.

THIS has NOTHING to do with God or His Word.  THIS has to do with supporting the wolves in sheep’s clothing who run the churches.

Another question which was posed to this writer by the person defending the churches was “Don’t you feel closer to God when you go to church?”

The answer was a plain “NO!”–accompanied by the explanation of how many churches MANIPULATE the various parts of their ceremonies in order to have their church folk feel ‘spiritual.’

THIS was not accepted as a good answer.

Perhaps the BIGGEST story told by the churches is the one that informs the listener ‘IF you want to be a good person, you go to church.’  As someone once put it: “I’m going to heaven!  I go to church, don’t I?”

Again, THIS has NOTHING to do with God and EVERYTHING to do with making the church person feel better about himself.

IS the reader a church person?

DOES the reader want to end up in heaven?

THEN, the reader needs to throw himself COMPLETELY on the mercy and grace of God.

“So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”
–Romans 9:16

God’s mercy is what gets one out of an eternity of torment and affliction and into heaven.

God’s mercy activated by a faith in Jesus Christ.

NOT attending (no matter how regularly) services in a building called a church every week.

IS the reader one of the ‘church folk’?

DOES the reader BELIEVE all of the church stories he has been told?

Having a Heart for the Lost?

human heart

A few weeks ago, someone made the remark, “You must have a TREMENDOUS heart for the lost.”

“What makes you say that?”

“You are always so concerned about those who are on the broad way to destruction.”

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat”
–Matthew 7:13

“It’s a commandment. Believers should at least TRY to obey all the commandments of God–particularly during the times in which we live.”

“But you seem so concerned!”

“My BIGGEST concern is that I do what my God commands.  After all, He plucked me from sure destruction and I STILL don’t know the reason why.”

“I don’t know.  I still say you have a heart for the lost.”

“Heart for the lost? Whatever.”

And THAT was the end of that short conversation.

DOES the reader even know what a ‘heart for the lost’ is?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

IF Receiving Eternal Salvation is NOT a Decision of Man, THEN How Does One Get Saved?

SALVATION

“So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”
–Romans 9:16

Though, strictly speaking, it is NOT up to the individual whether or not he becomes a member of the kingdom of heaven, he DOES have a say in the matter.

IF it is NOT up to each individual–in spite of what the churches claim–whether one receives eternal salvation, then HOW DOES SOMEONE RECEIVE ETERNAL SALVATION?

It begins with God’s mercy and grace toward each individual man. The churches have told the UNTRUE story that a person ‘comes to God’ after ‘making a decision for Christ.’ BUT, it is NOT man’s decision, it is God’s.

The GRACE and MERCY of God determines who will have eternal life–NOT some sinner’s decision.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
–Ephesians 2:8-9

As is usual with spiritual–and all other–matters, God’s Word provides the reader with clues.

“For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”
–Romans 9:15

God–NOT man–decides who is eternally saved. There are NO men who DESERVE eternal salvation, but God brings His people into the kingdom of heaven by His MERCY and GRACE alone.

“…but I am carnal, sold under sin.”
–Romans 7:14

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Romans 3:10-12

So, man is a totally flawed CREATION, whose body is the dust of the earth and which is sinful.

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
–Genesis 2:7

God KNOWS EVERYTHING about man, His creation. God KNOWS man is sinful. God KNOWS that man, on his own, will NEVER live up to the standards of a Holy God.

So, God is VERY loving and free about dispensing GRACE and MERCY to His flawed creation in order that they might get into heaven.

To ‘get the attention’ of a merciful and loving God–who CREATED us ALL–God’s Word has some suggestions on how this might be accomplished.

1 Eternal salvation is found in Jesus Christ, God’s Son.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
–John 3:16

“And being made perfect, he [Jesus] became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.”
–Hebrews 5:9

“…and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”
–Acts 16:30-31

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
–John 3:36

So, IF one desires to be a member of the kingdom of heaven, it is necessary to have COMPLETE and TOTAL belief in Jesus Christ.

THIS ‘gets God’s attention’–because it is written in God’s Word.

2 Obey the commands of God, as they are written in God’s Word (the ONLY truth available to man).

One cannot be a member of the kingdom of heaven IF one loves to sin.  Sin is a transgression against God. So, man has to obey the commands which are written in God’s Word.

“Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the LORD thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.”
–Deuteronomy 27:10

[God KNOWS that His creation (man) will NOT obey all of His commands because man is made of dirt. BUT, this is where the MERCY of God gets a sinner into heaven.]

3 Accept the benefits of being ‘born again’ SPIRITUALLY.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
–John 3:3

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”
–John 3:5

When one is reborn spiritually, that person receives a bit of the Spirit of God to dwell within him.

[Even a tiny bit of God’s Spirit is a LOT.]

4 Have faith that God will do as He has said in His Word.

“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.”
–Mark 11:22

“But without faith it is impossible to please him [God]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
–Hebrews 11:6

5 God will reward all as they deserve.  IF the reader desires to be eternally saved, he must deserve eternal salvation.

“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.”
–Matthew 16:27

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”
–2CORINTHIANS 5:10

With God, ETERNAL SALVATION all begins with His MERCY.

With man, ETERNAL SALVATION all begins with a STRONG DESIRE for eternal salvation.

JUST HOW does the reader believe one is eternally saved?
