A FEW Finer Points Concerning Eternal Salvation

Heaven: God reveals Himself

“Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him”
–Hebrews 5:8-9

One would think that something as important as ETERNAL SALVATION would be cut and dried; settled beyond the merest shadow of a doubt. After all, the committed follower of God and His Son, Jesus Christ is concerned with spending ETERNITY with them.

BUT, one would not count on Satan and his workers of iniquity and the many stories they tell about eternal salvation in order to CONFUSE and CONFOUND.

One would NOT count on the legions of church folk who have their own stories to tell about ETERNAL SALVATION.  Many (most?) of these stories make MAN the center of attention–even if man has NOTHING to do with that important aspect of God’s love.

Besides all of that, God’s Word may itself contribute to the confusion–particularly to those who WREST Scripture instead of merely FOLLOWING its plain meaning.

“And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”
–2PETER 3:15-16

In fact, God’s Word only contains ONE reference to ETERNAL LIFE: which is found in Hebrews 5:9.

Therefore, it has been decided to present a few of the finer points of eternal salvation to the reader in the hopes that he will avoid all such confusion.

[NOTE: The reader may be aware of ALL of these finer points–OR, he may be UNAWARE of them ALL.  Perhaps the reader was aware of all but one–HOWEVER, the one may be the point which contributes to the reader’s eternal salvation.]

1- Eternal salvation is a gracious gift from a loving God to His creation–especially MAN.

Although the church folk learn a great many stories about ‘making a decision for Christ,’ it is GOD ALONE who decides who is eternally saved or not.

NOT man.

“For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”
–Romans 9:15-16

2- We do NOT choose God.  God chooses US.

” Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”
–John 15:16

This makes all of those who tell such PRETTY stories about ‘deathbed conversions’ to be LIARS.

Deathbed Conversions: Another Tall Tale?

(Just for the reader’s info: God is not lonely.  God does NOT sit in heaven wondering if anyone will show up.]

3- NO ONE is saved UNTIL he is “born again” SPIRITUALLY.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
–John 3:3

When a man is born again spiritually, he receives God’s Holy Spirit to live within him for the rest of his days. NO MAN is eternally saved UNTIL he experiences the new birth.

4- Belief in Jesus Christ as the Messiah is necessary to be eternally saved.

God’s Word spells this out repeatedly.

“And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”
–Acts 16:30-31

As Jesus is recorded as stating:

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”
–John 6:47

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
–Romans 10:9-10

Who can tell how God works? Perhaps God’s great mercy is activated by a belief on His Son, Jesus Christ? Perhaps a belief on Jesus is all that is required to experience the mercy of God? Regardless, God’s Word STRONGLY advises a belief on Jesus Christ to enjoy eternal salvation.

As the reader can see, ETERNAL SALVATION revolves around God’s mercy and a belief on Jesus Christ, His Son. Man enjoys being the center of attention–even when that attention is focused on WRONG information about ETERNAL SALVATION.

HOWEVER, it is about God.

NOT man.

HAS the reader considered the finer points of eternal salvation?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

What Must the Reader Do To Be Eternally Saved?

ETERNAL SALVATION

In case the reader was wondering: NO, the reader is MOST LIKELY NOT eternally saved.

It does not matter what the reader believes to the contrary.

It does not matter which church the reader attends.

It ESPECIALLY does NOT matter which church the reader attends.

No building we call “the churches” is able to provide eternal salvation.

MORESatan Has Counterfeited the Christian Church

MORE: Satan Has Counterfeited the Churches: A Counterfeit Jesus is Next

MORE: LORD, LORD: Who is Crying Lord, Lord?

But, SO MANY in the Church of the Tares make SO MANY promises, the reader may be be excused for thinking that he has escaped eternal hellfire.

MORE: Many Shall be Offended: The End Times Church of the Tares

Usually, the TV preacher will offer to save the reader IF the reader will only send him a check.

Usually, the wolves in the local church pulpit will offer to save the reader IF only he will become a good, little member of that particular church.

And usually, the writers on ‘Christian’ websites will offer to save the reader IF the reader will only follow what they offer.

NONE of these work–because NONE of them offer the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In addition, NONE of those aforementioned ‘solutions’ will work because NONE mention that a person is saved through the MERCY and GRACE of God.

Finally, NONE of the ‘solutions’ will work because the reader LIKELY will have evaluated his life and found that he is doing quite nicely, thank you, WITHOUT eternal salvation.

To some, eternal salvation is another detail: another T to be crossed or an I to be dotted.

BUT, God’s Word COMMANDS that the attempt be made in good faith to save the pagan/unbeliever.

“And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.”
–Jude 22-23

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”
–Proverbs 11:30

And so, the question must be asked: “What is needed for the reader to enjoy eternal life?”

THE ANSWERS:

DESIRE First and foremost, the reader must WANT to be eternally saved.  Believe it or not, this is most probably the BIGGEST sticking point for folks living in the end times.

MOST have NO desire to be eternally saved because they do NOT believe there is anything to be saved from.

IF one automatically discounts the existence of Satan, God, Jesus Christ, sin, the end times, heaven and/or hell, then one automatically denies the basics of Christianity.

Oh–and faith.

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
–Hebrews 11:6

So, the reader must have a GENUINE DESIRE to be eternally saved.

BECOME A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST

There used to be a popular slogan which was scrawled upon walls as graffiti and occasionally used as a banking promotion/bumper sticker.

Jesus saves.”

This slogan is true: particularly if one is a committed believer and follower of Jesus Christ.

ONLY IF one is a committed believer and follower of Jesus Christ.

“For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ”
–1THESSALONIANS 5:9

Becoming a true follower Jesus requires that the reader give up so many firm-held deceptive convictions learned from an early age, however.

Which is one reason WHY the whole world prefers to worship Satan during the end times.

“And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
–Revelation 13:4,8

However, IF the reader is willing to lay aside his various learned superstitions, then he is on his way to eternal salvation!

There are OTHER things the reader may do in order to achieve eternal life.

BUT, these two are a GREAT START to ANY plan of eternal salvation!

DOES the reader believe himself eternally saved?

WHAT does the reader then believe himself saved FROM?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Out In The Cold?

While engaged in a spirited discussion about the preparations one should make for the end times, someone [who is unsaved and unbelieving] brought up a VERY good question.

“You’re always saying we should be prepared for the end times; for the times when Jesus comes back.  BUT, what if you decide to ‘go for it’ and become a full-blown Christian?

“What then?

“BUT, you also have said that “You do NOT choose God: God chooses you.” What happens IF you decide to become a Christian, but God does NOT choose you?  What then?”

The answer?

“All of that is true, but IF you make a decision to forsake the world and to TOTALLY COMMIT TO GOD AND JESUS, then your chances of being chosen by God for eternal salvation are pretty good.”

“But remember: God can read your thoughts and knows your heart.  God knows if you are totally committed to Him or if you are doing it for some other reason.”

“Yeah…but what if?”

“What if ‘what’?”

“What if you TRULY commit and STILL get left out in the cold?”

“God knows.  MEN do NOT know.  Even YOU may not know, but God knows everything about everything. IF you TRULY commit to God, God will NOT leave you ‘out in the cold’”.

“If you say so…”

“It’s in God’s Word: LOVE the LORD and FEAR the LORD and do it SINCERELY and God will shower you with good things.”

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
–1CORINTHIANS 2:9

“And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.”
–Luke 1:50

“But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children”
–Psalm 103:17

“For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.”
–Isaiah 64:4

“The BEST preparation one can make to get ready for the return of Jesus is to LOVE and FEAR the LORD–and do it through-and-through.”

“That’s a pretty convincing case.”

“It is.  It ALWAYS is.”

“BUT, not if you don’t believe any of that.”

“In that case, you have nothing to worry about.”

And then, after a bit of back-and-forth,  the conversation moved on to other, more sedate, topics.

It is Easy For UNbelievers to Dismiss the Power of the Gospel IF They Have Never Experienced It

lightning - power

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

It is quite easy to disbelieve something one has NEVER experienced or seen themselves.

And so it is with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

IF one has never seen or otherwise experienced the power of that gospel, it seems that little effort is required to confidently say: “I don’t believe that exists. I believe it is some mind trick or power of suggestion, BUT it is NOT a tool to be used against men who control REAL power.”

“It’s something that only works against primitive minds.”

“Anyone who has half a mind knows that it doesn’t work.”

IF one believes the Word of God, one KNOWS that the Bible is TRUE. And God’s Word offers that the gospel contains the “power of God unto salvation…”

A person who believes the Word of God ALSO believes what that Word has to say about the gospel’s power.

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
—John 20:31

So, those who have NO experience with the gospel are quite confident when they pass their judgment on it and claim that it is powerless.

Again, it is quite easy to dismiss a power which one has NEVER experienced.

Sort of like some backward South Seas tribesman ridiculing the power of electricity without having seen it in action.

Actually, those folks who form opinions and proclaim their ideas WITHOUT having experienced that which they talk about, reminds one of those who hang out in bars.

Those folks have GREAT abilities to expound on a number of things on which they have NO idea what they are talking about.

BUT, their audience is mostly others like them: other barflies who ALSO know nothing about the subject being discussed.

The gospel of Jesus Christ IS exactly what has been written about it for centuries: the power of God unto salvation.

To all of those who have NO experience with this power: it’s not too late.

But time IS running out…

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”
-—1 Corinthians 1:18-19

THE GOSPEL (GOOD NEWS) OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

–1 Corinthians 15:1-8

DOES the reader believe that the gospel has a power that is NOT apparent to most?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Eternal Salvation is Most Missed When it is Needed

You'll MISS ME

“If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. “
–Proverbs 24:10

Like a great many other, LESSER things in this life, eternal salvation is missed the MOST once it is needed.

Until eternal salvation is needed, for most men, it remains an abstraction: something which is an idea only. ONCE eternal salvation is NEEDED, however, it attains an immediacy which demands the attention of the one not saved.

UNTIL the moment it is NEEDED, eternal salvation is often an AFTERTHOUGHT.

THIS is primarily the reason many put it off until it is too late.

“I’m too busy to think about that now.  I’ll think about it later–when I have the time.”

Unfortunately, the person in question NEVER seems to find the time to consider the weighty matter of eternal salvation.

Until it’s too late.

“Now that I NEED it, eternal salvation seems pretty important!  Why did I not see this earlier?”

It is commonly said that a ‘young person never thinks he is going to die.’

This is true of ANYONE (regardless of age)–particularly those who are in good health.

What man is it whose thoughts dwell upon his death whenever he feels fine?

When one is young–or healthy and feeling fit as a fiddle, DEATH and the need for the eternal salvation–which is SO important AFTER this life–seem very far away.

Can this be why so many of the youth shake their tiny fists in rebellion at Almighty God?
When one is young, life seems to stretch on FOREVER.

Death is for the oldsters.

IF one’s DEMISE (death) appears to be FAR AWAY, then might the consequences surrounding that passing also seem FAR AWAY?

In many cases, so far away that one might think they might NEVER happen?

A great many professional atheists are BRAVE when they are IN THIS WORLD.  Many receive the support and the acclaim of the world because of their views. Their fellows provide much support.

BUT, it is when those men are by themselves, facing judgment–as ALL must–ALONE, that the value of eternal salvation is finally realized.

“Eternal salvation is missed most when it is needed.”

DOES the reader have ANY thoughts on this important and weighty matter?

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

The Roman Road to Salvation Vs The Gospel of Jesus Christ

THE GOSPEL of Jesus Christ

A few days ago, a SHORT but INTERESTING discussion was entertained about the topic of “eternal salvation.”

When the subject turned to the ‘mercy (grace) of God,’ THEN the discussion traversed a few interesting points.

When it was pointed out that NO ONE is saved without the mercy (grace) of the LORD, the other person in the discussion quickly referenced a (man-made) tool called “The Roman Road to Salvation.”

The Roman Road (as it is many times called) is compiled from some verses found in the Book of Romans.

This reference was held up as being contradictory to what was claimed as “NO ONE is saved without the mercy of God.”

The discussion then came to a quick end as the other person promised to “study the matter and get back to you.”

AFTER looking into the matter of the ‘Roman Road to Salvation’ vs the gospel of Jesus Christ, several points became apparent.

We now present FIVE of  those points.

1- God’s Word has MANY scriptural references to the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ.

IN FACT, Jesus Himself commanded:

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
–Mark 16:15

The Bible is silent about the Roman Road.

2- God’s Word promises that it is the gospel which is the power of God unto salvation, NOT the Roman Road.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

3- While the Roman Road DOES mention Jesus several times during its presentation, Jesus is NOT the focal point as He is during the presentation of the gospel.

Believe the gospel of Jesus Christ and be eternally saved.

Do NOT believe the gospel of Jesus Christ and be eternally damned.

“But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
—John 20:31

Believe the Roman Road to Salvation and perhaps be saved eternally.

Do NOT believe the Roman Road to Salvation and one is no worse off than he was before.

4- The Roman Road, like its accomplices (whatever their names), seems to place a great emphasis on ‘making a decision for Christ.’

This feeds man’s desire to be the center of all attention–even during eternal salvation.

God’s Word says that the decisions of man have very little to do with where that man will spend his eternity.

“For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
–Romans 9:15-16

5- The Roman Road to Salvation would seem to be a perfectly acceptable SUPPLEMENT to the gospel, NOT a SUBSTITUTE FOR the gospel.

As many (particularly, in the churches) would have it to be.

WHAT does the reader believe about the Roman Road to Salvation?

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

NO ONE Goes To Heaven By Being a Good Person

GOOD

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Romans 3:10-12

It is truly amazing the number of people who have little more than a vague idea of HOW to wind up in HEAVEN.

But thinking back to when this writer was a heathen, it was remembered when the statement was made: “I’m not real sure of how to get to heaven, but someday, I’m going to sit down, spend some time and figure it all out.”

Most claim they are a ‘good person’ or have done a ‘good deed’ because they compare their behaviors to that of well-known serial killers.

But God’s Word is clear: there is NO ONE who is ‘good enough’ to make it into heaven on their own.

“The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. “
–Psalm 14:2-3

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”
–Romans 3:23

“…Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Psalm 53:1-3

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Romans 3:10-12

Besides, those who hold the view that they have to have more good deeds than bad ones to go to heaven, turn GOD-THE-CREATOR-OF-ALL from the Perfect Judge who will judge perfectly into a sort of GOD-THE-ALMIGHTY-WEIGHER-OF-DEEDS.

Sort of like God is the keeper of a set of cosmic scales, which can put a number on good deeds, whether a person once helped old ladies across the street OR saved babies from a burning building.

Many believe that IF they do more good deeds than bad, they will wind up in heaven where God will make EVERYTHING all good.

OF COURSE, each person telling the story is the one who judges 1) whether a behavior is good or bad; 2) how much value to assign to their good deeds; 3) whether any ulterior motives made them do their good deeds; and, 4) if bad behaviors were not just ‘playing around.’  God seems to be left completely out of their equations.

SO, IF a person does not get to heaven with performing good deeds, how does one get to heaven?

Well, if one is trying to do good, it gets VERY difficult VERY quickly.

FIRST, PERFECT obedience is required.

“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”
–James 2:10

SECOND, it requires a GREAT AMOUNT of GOD’S MERCY.  NO ONE is saved without God’s mercy.

“For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”
–Romans 9:15-16

Ephesians 2 gives the PERFECT FORMULA for ETERNAL SALVATION.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
–Ephesians 2:8-9

SO, God’s GREAT MERCY (grace) is activated by a person’s faith.

This opens the door to trusting (putting one’s faith) COMPLETELY on Jesus Christ.

“But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone”
–Ephesians 2:13-20

DOES the reader wish to go to heaven?

DOES the reader desire to obtain ETERNAL SALVATION?

Then the reader needs to place ALL of his faith for obtaining that salvation on Jesus Christ.

And trust God’s Great Mercy to do the rest.

HAS the reader ever spent much time contemplating the particulars of eternal salvation?

It is not YET too late: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
