One Hundred

person holding lighted candle on brown cake

Recently, a close family member attained the ripe, old age of 100.  In accordance with the event, the family members which remained had a get-together to honor the 100-year-old man.

(One way to tell that the man had aged was that he left to ‘rest up’ later–after about 5 or 6 hours of socializing. This would NEVER have been done when he was younger.)

There were a LOT of people who showed up at this gathering.  This is a direct testimony to my sister (who spent hours planning and promoting this happening.

The Invitations, which were homemade, were quite professionally done.

At the top was a large word “PARTY.” Beside it were two pictures from the aged one’s youth, along with a current picture showing all who received the invitation what the man looked like NOW.

Underneath all of that in much smaller letters were the times and places the ‘celebration’ would take place.  “Just Mosey on in,have a bite to eat and visit–They’ll be stories, yarns and possibly a Liars ‘Contest!’ Hope to see you”

Now, there was NO Liar’s Contest–and most of those  attending probably had NO idea of what that event even was. But it seemed as if almost everyone there enjoyed themselves.  There was even a group of younger relatives which showed up later in the day and comprised a “second shift” of sorts.

NOW, this piece COULD have taken the route of “reminisce” and spent the time remembering the good times over the years involving the older gentleman–not that there anything wrong with that.

But it was observed that, though MANY different phrases were trotted out that day to label the oldster, NO ONE claimed that he was “AS IS.”

“AS IS” is often used as a warning to check used goods to make sure (as best can be done) that they meet the buyer’s approval and that no visible defects can be found. The fact that no one was heard to use that phrase to refer to the man of honor demonstrated that it was a largely-cordial gathering of folks.

Not wishing to sound like anyone else, this writer submitted a birthday card in which he wrote, “Hey!  You outlasted all of your other classmates!

This seemed to put the who idea of reaching 100 years into its proper perspective.  That perspective should be that someone reaching a 100-year-old birthday is more of an aspect of longevity than of merit.

The day seemed as if most present wanted to know what the man’s “secret‘ was (to living such a long life).

One person was told it was “live healthy.

Another had it pointed out the gentleman lived his life mostly free of stress.

In addition, it was pointed out (about the same time) that “stress will kill ya.

One hundred years old.

IF reaching a ripe old age is an accomplishment, it is a testiment to how the man navigated the various slings and arrows of his life.

And NOT to any particular method of navigation.

Add A Little Social Lubricant to Your Day

Free Essential Oils Bottle photo and picture

Someone once observed–years ago–that ‘manners (good) were a form of social lubricant.’

Who said this?

The Internet is awash with information about various folks who said something very similar.

RON HUBBARD claimed that In a culture, manners are the lubrication that ease the frictions of social contacts.

Since Mr. Hubbard was the founder of Scientology–as well as a noted science fiction author–his claim sounds convincing.

PETER F. DRUCKER, however, said something a bit similar.

Manners are the lubricating oil of an organization. It is a law of nature that two moving bodies in contact with each other create friction. This is as true for human beings as it is for inanimate objects. Manners- simple things like saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and knowing a person’s name or asking after her family enable two people to work together whether they like each other or not. Bright people, especially bright young people, often do not understand this. If analysis shows that someone’s brilliant work fails again and again as soon as cooperation from others is required, it probably indicates a lack of courtesy – that is, a lack of manners.
–Peter F. Drucker

So, there are TWO highly-successful men (Drucker was a well-known, well-paid consultant) who shared the same general feeling about manners being a social lubricant.

But, WAIT!  There are more…

Good manners are important social lubricants. Yet it seems that everywhere we go, people are forgetting how to be respectful. Science shows that when we encounter rudeness it causes us to experience stress. The opposite is also true. When someone is polite toward us, our brains release oxytocin — the feel-good hormone.
Dr. Christiane Northup

Civility is a necessary part of the foundation of any successful civilized society. In socially advanced societies, this civility is extended not only to those within our peer group, but also to the occupants of the greater social fabric, whatever their station in life. Manners grease the wheels of society, making it easier for all members of that society to live in harmony with one another.
Michael Nunes, The Gentleman’s Brotherhood: Coutesy is Society’s Grease

L. RON HUBBARD weighs in again with an almost-identical quote on the topic.

In a culture, manners are the lubrication that ease the frictions of social contacts.

Good manners grease the wheels of society.

GENTLE READER: Nobody, least of all Miss Manners, will argue with your declaration that being courteous is more important than knowing how to eat a five-course meal (and thank you for not putting it as “knowing which fork to use”).”
–Newspaper writer Miss Manners

So, saying “please” and “thank you” help to hinder the day’s frictions and smooth any curved places in the road one is traveling.

Did the reader know?

Did the reader attempt to smooth out the day’s bumps?

( Things will return to the new normal next week–it looks like.)

The Adventurous Life of the Fruit Fly

FRUIT FLY

Okay, we will admit it: OCCASIONALLY, the mind DOES wander about hither and yon AWAY from where it is SUPPOSED to be.

It was on such a recent occasion that the mind wandered to a place where the lowly fruit fly was pondered.

We label the fruit fly ‘lowly’ MAINLY because of the fruit fly’s VERY SHORT lifespan.  It was guessed to be a LOT lower than it proved to be–at least from the information obtained from the world’s repositories on fruit fly information.

From these sources of information, we learned that the fruit fly lives almost to be TWO MONTHS OLD.

Fruit flies are known for their rapid reproduction and relatively short lifespans. The average lifespan of a fruit fly is about 40 to 50 days.

So, we were pleasantly surprised that the fruit fly lives longer than the 9 or 10 days we had previously supposed. When we were in college (back when dinosaurs walked the earth), psychology departments often used fruit flies for all kinds of experiments because fruit flies had such short generations (this helped the psych people keep track of whatever it was which the psych people were trying to keep track of), it speeded up the time one needed to observe a fruit flies’ LONG-TERM changes by the ones doing the experiment. Back then, we could have SWORN that fruit flies lived 9 or 10 days.  Of course, perhaps the lifespans of fruit flies were investigated further by an intrepid cadre of fruit fly scientists in white lab coats?

At any rate, it was the MEMORY of the fruit fly which attracted our wandering mind that day.  How long does a fruit fly remember?  Not very long, it’s a sure bet.  And after consulting the online fruit fly experts, it was determined that fruit flies have a MEMORY SPAN of about 4 seconds.

Flies form a memory of locations they are heading for. This memory is retained for approximately four seconds. This means that if a fly, for instance, deviates from its route for about a second, it can still return to its original direction of travel.

It at this point that the mind kicked into another gear.  With a memory of four seconds, the fruit fly is ALWAYS visiting NEW places.

The fruit fly is ALWAYS meeting new people.

The fruit fly then is living life to its fullest: ALWAYS engaged in one adventure or another.  The fruit fly is ALWAYS seeing new places and new people (or other fruit flies). Ah, yes, the human can only ponder the wondrous life of the fruit fly.

After settling on the point that the fruit fly TRULY lives an adventurous life, we retrieved our mind and headed to where we had ORIGINALLY had wanted to go, fully prepared to think non-fruit fly thoughts to their fullest.

More Satanic Advice for the End Times

ADVICE: Good counsel

Recently, while reading an email from one of the many modern end times “ministries,” the following passage was offered.

“You said that true faith is a reasonable faith…Yet most people, when they think of faith, they don’t think of reason or logic or evidence; it’s just something you do – you just believe with no basis. So, in a sense faith has almost become an antonym for reason and logic.”

Which brought to remembrance the following: Road to Hell is Paved by Deceived, Reasonable People and End Times Quote: Be Reasonable.

A prime piece of advice from Satan for the end times:

Be reasonable.

Reasonable” often is a coded phrase for compromise and capitulation.

BUT this is not the only piece of satanic, end times advice.

There are other things the father of lies would like end times man to know as well.

A few of the more prominent bits of “wisdom” from the dragon follow.

1- Stay busy

Modern man lives a very busy life.

IF the reader does not believe it, just ask.

The life of modern man is filled with all sorts of daily activities which keep moderns busy and distracted.

Just the way Satan likes it.
Stay busy: more advice from Satan

2- The End Justifies the Means

One of the world’s greatest pieces of advice is “The end justifies the means.

…”the end justifies the means“: meaning that if a goal is morally important enough, any method of achieving it is acceptable.

This is also one of the devil’s favorite pieces of advice.

The world and Satan both heartily endorse this philosophy.

It allows the believer of this philosophy to justify ANY action, as long as that action furthers his goals…

…and he convinces himself his goals are “right” and “moral.”
The End Justifies the Means: Popular End Times Advice from the Devil

3- Become a light worker

The workers of iniquity are usually ALWAYS chattering about “the light” and “light workers.”

Be careful, therefore, that the light that is in you is not darkness.
-—Luke 11:35

A warning from Jesus that is highly appropriate for the times in which we live.

A warning to those who are deceived, surrounded by deceivers.

Indeed, a warning for all of those who are or appear to be wrapped up in their churches.
End Times Quote: Make Sure that the Light that is in You is not Darkness

Once more, make sure the “light” one is chattering about is not darkness.

There are other end times advice Satan provides to the unwary.

At some point, these bits of worldly “wisdom” will be discussed.

DOES the reader ponder any of the aforementioned bits of advice?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Woodpecker

woodpecker

“And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.”
–Genesis 1:20-22

The constant rap-rap-rapping, drilling into one’s consciousness, can only mean one thing.

A woodpecker–or two or three–has taken to working the side of one’s house.

The first five minutes of the racket may provoke thoughts of Genesis 1 and the wonders of God’s creation.

And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.”

The next few minutes are a time of questions:

“How long will this bird persist?”

“Are woodpeckers social animals?”

“How long has this one been at it?”

Another few minutes of the drumming and thoughts turn to strategies for stopping the constant beating.

“Maybe if food was placed away from the house.  What do woodpeckers eat?”

“Do woodpeckers scare easily?”

“Next year, this house is getting a paint job and the color will be bright red!”

Afterwards, the steady, constant drumming causes coherent thought to largely cease.

Next, an appeal to God Almighty.

“Can you show the woodpecker a better future somewhere else?  Is this even a good topic for prayer?”

And then, finally,  the noise stops.

Until the next time.

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

The Modern End Times Celebrity

celebrity kiss

There is a group of people–many of the female persuasion–who live their lives occupied by little more than their “job” of being a celebrity.

These celebrities are constantly featured in the newspapers, in magazines and/or on TV, despite their apparent lack of talent–-other than wearing little clothing, see-through clothing, bikinis, underwear, lingerie,  or no clothing at all in public.

Appearing undressed–or nearly so–appears to constitute their primary discernible skill.

Though the Corporate Media pushes these celebrities on the public as “hot babes,” occasionally photos will surface which make it clear their photos are retouched and Photoshopped to make them appear more appealing.

They also are “pregnant” quite often–AS IF this will somehow make them appear as a “real person.” This allows the celebrity to be photographed or taped doing things their followers do, such as those tasks involved with raising a child.

However, the children of such celebrities serve as mostly props.  It would be interesting to see how the children of celebrities turn out.  NOT financially–their background and connections almost always insures that they will enjoy the things of the world–but how these children end up their lives.

The modern celebrity’s “job” mostly involves some task which 1- requires little skill; and 2- requires the person doing the task to be grossly overpaid.

Sometimes, they will act or sing (usually badly). They will often bemoan how “hard” it is to act or sing. Some of their tales will center around the difficult preparations they have have to do in order to act or sing.

Sometimes, they will wear the clothes of others (fashion model).

Mostly, they will come from wealthy families or celebrated backgrounds-–though this will often not be part of their official “resume.

Often, they will inexplicably be awarded fashion lines of clothing, perfume or make-up.

Usually, they will have “reality” TV shows which feature their barren, hollow lives.

Many times they appear in the “news” with photos showing them “living the good life.”

Almost always, they are annoying.

ALWAYS, they will be “connected” in some way–either this fact will be publicized (as in the case of the son or daughter of another celebrity) or it will not be (as in the case of a younger member of an older bloodline).

These “celebrities” are famous for being who they are.  Their empty lives and thoughts are continually forced upon the rest of the population by Satan’s Mouthpiece (the Corporate Media) because (it is hoped by those who call the shots) that one day, these celebrities will become good little puppets mouthing propaganda to the mindless slaves who follow such wasted lives.

Celebrities have also been referred to as the “rich and celebrated.”

The modern celebrity’s life may appear to be homogeneous.

BUT appearances can be deceiving.

Yes, the modern celebrity DOES have a lot in common with other celebrities (family connections often going back centuries; a background of extreme wealth [whether this is public knowledge or not]; a disdain for Christianity and the precepts thereof; an appreciation of the finer things of life and the means to purchase such things; a contempt for others who are not of the same social strata; the ability to live a lie, while appearing to be comfortable in public; and, a single-minded hunger for attention and fame).

However, each celebrity is created to attract maximum attention from a particular group and then to distract anyone so interested from other, more important matters.

So, while the modern celebrity is primarily a distraction, that is NOT all the modern celebrity life is.

The modern celebrity life also is important because

  1. The celebrity becomes a mouthpiece for those who supply the means for his fame, wealth and lifestyle. Because of this, the celebrity is an important conduit of propaganda and other deceptions.
  2. The celebrity becomes, in effect, a walking advertisement for certain causes célèbres, giving those behaviors credibility and an air of normality.
  3. The celebrity’s voice becomes part of a greater chorus which gives the public the impression that the behaviors, opinions and actions of the celebrity are fashionable and “cool.”

So, while the modern celebrity may appear to be empty-headed and vacuous, a great deal of thought has gone into the celebrity’s utterances, appearance and behaviors.

In fact, IF the modern celebrity did not exist, s/he would have had to be invented.

Overheard:

Among the workers of iniquity

Among the rich and celebrated

Among the infamous fame junkies

There are certain words to live by IF one is a celebrity.

“Those who can, do.

Those who can’t, become celebrities.”

These are the infamous end times “celebrities.”

The reader no doubt knows who many of these “celebrities” are.
