“And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”
—1 John 2:3-6
There’s much written about the “Christian walk.”
But one thing which eludes many authors of those countless pieces is that the Christian walk is through a lost world. That world hates the Christian. There are no compromises. There is only animosity for Jesus Christ and any who profess Him.
Again: the world HATES the true Christian.
“whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
—James 4:4
The more the Christian notices the lost world around him, the more it becomes apparent that there is nowhere in this world to “relax.” There is nowhere in this lost world to “catch one’s breath.”
The only place one can find peace and respite is on one’s knees, communicating with the One who upholds the Christian in a world which despises him. This is the only place the true Christian can find rest in this lost world: in contact with Jesus.
IF the reader finds solace anywhere except on his knees, then the reader needs to re-examine his walk.
This world is lost and becoming more so every hour. The world hated Jesus.
“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.”
—John 15:18
This lost world hates the Christian.
Any who trust in God’s Word should expect nothing more.
The Christian is to walk as Jesus walked (making the attempt daily). That means the walk will not be easy or popular. There are any number of wolves telling their churches that the Christian can look, act and speak like the world and still be a Christian. This is not walking as Jesus walked.
Even more harmful are the wolves who are telling their churches to walk like the dragon while telling them they are lambs.
IF the reader’s “Christian walk” is not taking him through enemy territory, then the reader should question whether his walk is Christian or not.
Knowing that the walk will be hard, the believer should prepare himself with the help of the Holy Spirit, God’s Word and much daily prayer.
The Christian walk is through a lost, hostile world.
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
—John 16:33
THE GOSPEL
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-4
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
