And that’s not all: A complete list of Black Fridays. So, at least maybe the shopping spectacle–increasingly marked by violence and rude behavior over trinkets, trifles and trash–is aptly named.
Thanksgiving–A Time for Gratefulness to God – Ahhh, if only the piece would deliver what the headline promises. There are many little white lies sprinkled among the ersatz sentiments, American patriotism and faux history lessons. Not very much about Thanksgiving; that’s just the holiday on which the author hangs her clever exhortations. She does wrap the American flag around two scriptures, distorting their meaning.
The author’s bio blurb says she “calls all citizens to awaken, arise, and act in restoring one nation under God.”
Seems to be a lot of that going round. “Restoring the nation” is the ring through the nose by which many American Christians will be led to the slaughter.
Where did the “One nation under God” come from? The Pledge of Allegiance. But the original pledge, written in 1892, was:
“I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
The addition of “under God” came about in 1954. Two years later, Congress made “In God we Trust” the national motto. Because the USA became a particularly holy nation in the 1950s. Because the mid-50s signaled that the USA was all about God in our deeds as well as in our words.
Not.
Anyway, this was just in time for Christianity to begin its long downward spiral in the USA. But what should we expect from a country that has always been shy about connecting the name of “Jesus” to our “Christian nation.”
“Rising up” is a popular exercise in America these days, especially among American Christians–particularly those of the Dominionist strain.

Because of your hard work, passion, and dedication, we have accomplished so much over this past year. We’ve continued to create jobs and rebuild our economy. We’ve cut carbon pollution so we can preserve our environment. We’ve witnessed historic victories for equality across the country, all the way to the Supreme Court. And soon, millions of Americans will finally have access to quality, affordable health care — many for the first time.

Parents Enraged After School Tampers With Students’ Cell Phones – Parents don’t bat an eye over losing most parental rights at the schoolhouse door. But let the school attempt to discipline their little Junebug or enforce school rules and they are “enraged.” Tweens and teens can call their parents every name in the book and totally disregard what they’re told. But let a teacher enforce rules set up to ensure the safety and learning of all students and those same parents are ready to SUE! over Precious’ trampled “rights.”
NO DICHOTOMY – It’s not often the population of any group can be divided into only two equal, non-overlapping subgroups. IF a large group can be divided into two non-overlapping subgroups, that is a called a dichotomy.
In these last days, it’s tempting to split Christianity into two groups: 1- those who have their heads in the sand; and, 2-those who don’t. However, there are more than two groups in these last days. A few of these are:
1- There are those in the church who insist that “things will get better.”
2- Those who believe we are in the last days and, like Alfred Hitchcock movie buffs, love to be scared by tales of impending disaster lurking around every corner.
3- Those who believe we are in the end times, but want to hedge their bets by claiming “I think we have a lot more time left.”
4- Those who believe we are in the end times and are anxiously awaiting the return of the King of Kings.
5- Those who believe we are in the last days but can’t break with the things of this world because “Hey be reasonable , we have to live our lives, don’t we?”
6- Those who believe we are living at the end of time and who ceaselessly search the writings of men and extra-biblical sources for information about the season.
