Beloved Brother Paul

False brethren are attacking the epistles of Paul and questioning whether they are indeed God-breathed. One tactic they use is to present a false dichotomy between the words of Jesus Christ and the rest of the New Testament. They fail to understand that all of the New Testament was given to the New Testament writers by the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ didn’t pen the words He said, His followers did as they were inspired by the Holy Spirit; and the revelation of Who Jesus Christ is and what He has done is also made known to us by men moved by the Holy Spirit to write the very Words of God in the text of the New Testament.

I believe the reason they do so is to pave the way for the promotion of homosexuality. God’s testimony that homosexuality is sin is given to us in the New Testament by the apostle Paul. Those who are supportive of this sinful behavior will often say that Jesus didn’t say anything about homosexuality. If they can convince others that Paul’s words were not given to him by the Holy Spirit, then they can dismiss the use of New Testament Scripture to reveal that homosexuality is sin. They will debunk what is stated in the Old Testament by saying that was a time of law and we now live in a time of grace, or whatever other way they strive to discredit the Old Testament prohibitions against homosexual sin.

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. Leviticus 18:22

If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. Leviticus 20:13

Another method these false brethren use to attack the New Testament is to falsely teach that the New Testament documents were not accepted as the inspired, infallible, inerrant Word of God until they were officially accepted into the New Testament canon, thus giving the possibility that they were falsely included. However, for those who suppose that the church did not have an agreed upon collection of inspired writings received as the Holy Writ of the New Testament before they were formally canonized, it should be realized that these God inspired writings had to be embraced as the Word of God long before they were formally canonized by the “official spokesmen” for the church.

The gospels and the book of Acts must have been in circulation well before they were canonized because of who authored them and when the men used by God to write them lived. All of the epistles and gospels that we now know as the New Testament had to be written before the end of the first century because the authors, the men used by God to write them, were all contemporaries of Jesus! These works were circulated among Believers years before the “official acknowledgement” of their authenticity as the Word of God. Additionally, they fact that the writings of the apostles were considered the Word of God is given credence in the following Scriptures.

30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. John 20:30-31

John self-consciously declares that what he has written in his book, the Gospel of John, is sufficient for bringing the lost to salvation. He would not make this statement without knowing that God inspired Him to write it as Jesus promised in John 14:24, John 15:26-27 and John 16:13-15.

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I have said to you.” John 14:24

26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. 27 “And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.” John 15:26-27

13 “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. John 16:13-15

Jesus spoke these words to the apostles. Paul declared that the church of God is built upon the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, with Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone. So the apostles wrote about Jesus Christ and believers were built up upon their Holy Spirit inspired doctrine. Otherwise, Paul could not have joined what the apostles wrote with what the prophets wrote.

19 Now , therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22

Paul included himself as an apostle of God through the divine call of God upon Him in numerous passages in the New Testament Scriptures. Before those are quoted realize that Luke bore testimony of Jesus Christ’s call upon Paul in Acts.

15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake. Acts 9:15-16

10 “So I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ And the Lord said to me, “Arise and go into Damascus, and there you will be told all things which are appointed for you to do.’ Acts 22:10

11 But the following night the Lord stood by him and said, “Be of good cheer, Paul; for as you have testified for Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness at Rome.” Acts 23:11

14 “And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ 15 “So I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 16 But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. 17 I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, 18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ “Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20 but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance. Acts 26:14-20

Here are just a few of the verses where Paul declares his apostleship given to him by God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:1

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother 2 Corinthians 1:1

11 I have become a fool in boasting, you have compelled me. For I ought to have been commended by you; for in nothing was I behind the most eminent apostles, though I am nothing. 12 Truly the signs of an apostle were accomplished among you with all perseverance, in signs and wonders and mighty deeds. 2 Corinthians 12:11-12

Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead), Galatians 1;1

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus: Ephesians 1:1

Finally, John declares the preeminence the apostles have in sharing the gospel, that their message is the truth concerning Jesus Christ, and that what they have written is given to them by God in 1 John.

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life-2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us-3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. 1 John 1:1-4

18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come by which we know it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. 1 John 2:18-19

26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 1 John 2:26

5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. 1 John 4:5-6

John here is opposing what the antichrists and those of the world have to say about Christ, with what he and the other apostles have to say about Christ. What the apostles told the believers of their day about Christ was given to them by God and so is the inspired, inerrant, infallible truth of God. That it is written down for believers to read in the first century he has already born witness to in the first and second chapters of 1 John. By God the Father’s mercy, grace and sovereign preservation we have the Word of God handed down to us for our edification and faith today.

Finally, here is the testimony given to us in Hebrews about the faithful transmission and preservation of the gospel message given to us by God Himself.

1 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, 3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4 God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? Hebrews 2:1-4

It is ludicrous to wrest the writings of Paul from the New Testament. He bore witness to Jesus Christ and relied heavily upon the Old Testament writings to confirm the revelation given to Him by Jesus Christ our glorious Lord and Savior.

One of these false brethren, a woman, discounted God’s declaration that the epistles of Paul are Scripture through His apostle Peter in 2 Peter the third chapter. The epistles written by Paul that were recognized by the church, during his lifetime, through authentication by the Holy Spirit as God’s Word are indeed on par with the rest of the Scripture. They are God-breathed.

14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation-as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. 2 Peter 3:14-18

It is necessary to look at this passage and comment upon it verse by verse to overthrow this wicked worker’s attempt to pervert what God has clearly stated through His apostle Peter regarding His chosen vessel Paul.

What things are we to look forward to, the new heavens and the new earth in which righteousness dwells. We must be diligent to be found in Christ, in peace without spot (any sin or error) and blameless (serving the Lord and others with love and lowliness by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit). The fact that Jesus Christ hasn’t judged this wicked world yet means there are still sinners to be brought to repentant faith in Jesus Christ and His glorious gospel. Paul, the beloved brother, wrote about the salvation of Jesus Christ for sinners and the longsuffering patience of our Lord toward the lost with the wisdom given to him by God the Holy Spirit.

Some things which he wrote in relation to God’s patience with sinners and commanding all everywhere to repent and believe the gospel for salvation are hard to understand which those who have not been taught by the Holy Spirit through God’s Word taught to them by faithful believers, twist and distort to their own eternal destruction. They do this with the rest of the Scriptures, distorting and perverting the crystal clear communication of God to His own, because they do not belong to Him. We have been warned and are to beware of those who twist Scripture so that we won’t be led away with their wicked error and fall from our confidence in Christ and His word. We must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by listening to His sound doctrine correctly taught by godly men full of the Holy Spirit and by our own reliance upon Him through prayer, obedience and study of His wonderful word, the Bible.

This portion of Peter’s epistle clearly contrasts the false teaching of those who twist the Scriptures with the holy teaching of Paul, who communicated God’s Word as He was led by the Holy Spirit. What he wrote is Scripture!

Beware of those who attack Paul as an illegitimate spokesman for God. They are attacking Jesus Christ and His gospel which He revealed to our beloved brother Paul. Beware of those who try to remove the inspiration of the books of the New Testament away from the time period when they were written to the time when they were “officially recognized”. Those who do so have an evil agenda to try and subvert and overthrow our confidence in the New Testament books handed down to us as the inspired, infallible, inerrant Word of God. I believe they strive to do this to make it easier for those who are immature and untaught in the Scriptures to unwittingly believe that God accepts homosexuals and their wicked lifestyle. We must stand for the truth of the Word of God and turn away from all wicked attacks upon its authenticity and authority as the inspired, infallible, inerrant Word of God.

6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel that what you have received, let him be accursed. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. 11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. 12 for I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ…1 Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and also took Titus with me. 2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated to them that gospel with I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to those who were of reputation, lest by any means I might run, or had run, in vain… 7 But on the contrary, when they saw that the gospel for the uncircumcised had been committed to me, as the gospel for the circumcised was to Peter 8 (for He who worked effectively in Peter for the apostleship to the circumcised also worked effectively in me toward the Gentiles) 9 and when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that had been given to me, they gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. 10 They desired only that we should remember the poor, the very thing which I was eager to do. Galatians 1:6-12; 1-2; 7-10

UNDERSTAND THE TRUTH FROM THE SCRIPTURE

Part Two of a Five-Part Series

This series of posts will center on the grid of man-made doctrine placed over Holy Writ and how that turns the truth into a lie. As there are a large number of denominations, so there are many perversions of the truth of the Word of God. This series will look at these perversions and compare them with Scripture to refute them. Just as teaching about the return of Christ is given a tepid reception, this series will also ruffle the feathers of many professed believers. However, we must keep the mission of Jesus Christ in mind which can be summed up by three quotes.

Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” John 18:37 “Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three.” Luke 12:51-52 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth, I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.” Matthew 10:34-35

The truth of God’s Word does not bring unity with those who reject it, but rather severe division. There will be unity among those who receive the truth, because they are of God, but those who hold fast to the truth will find they are divided from those who reject the truth. In this post I will look at the perversions within Protestantism because it did not entirely throw off the false teaching of the Catholic Church and so they are in the process of returning to their Mother.

The Protestant Reformation never really severed ties with the Catholic Church. Historically and physically, they did, but doctrinally they didn’t. They kept doctrines intact that result in works driven justification, just like the Catholic Church.

The fact that they never fully rejected the false teaching of the Catholic Church discloses why there is a move to return to the Catholic Church.

Just like the faulty input for the 1999 Mars Climate Orbiter which used pound-second units instead of Newton-second units as its software input for thrust, resulted in the trajectory for entry into the Martian atmosphere being much lower than allowable, and the probe disintegrated, holding false teaching will result in our demise. Just as concerns about the unit discrepancies were brushed off by “experts” and NASA lost a $125 million piece of hardware due to the fact that 1 Newton-second = 0.224808 pound-second. Those who point out error are dismissed by those on their way to hell. The fact that there was a 78% discrepancy for the final calculation was enough to bring about the destruction of the Mars probe.

Likewise, those who hold to the error propagated by the Catholic Church, no matter how seemingly minor, will experience eternal destruction because what they teach and believe contradicts the clear teaching of the Scriptures.

One such doctrine that has no Scriptural basis but originates with the Catholic Church is infant baptism. There is no example of an infant being baptized in the Scripture nor is there the command to baptize infants. The justification that churches which practice infant baptism use is identifying infant baptism as a covenant sign from the Lord just like circumcision. But Paul states that circumcision profits nothing and that those who look to circumcision for justification are condemned to keep the whole law.

²Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. ³And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law. ⁴You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. Galatians 5:2-4 & ¹⁵For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. Galatians 6:15

Why would our God and Father link an ordinance that symbolizes the work that Jesus Christ has accomplished for us through His death and resurrection, and which pictures our turning from sin to Him (baptism), to a work that leads us to law keeping for justification? The law reveals our sin and is meant to lead us to Christ through Whom we refrain from any work or effort to establish our own justification.

²¹Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. ²² But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. ²³But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. ²⁴Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. ²⁵But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. ²⁶For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. ²⁷For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Galatians 3:21-26

So the law brings us to Christ because we see our need of a Savior and by placing our faith in Jesus Christ we are justified. We become the children of God through faith in Christ and put on Christ Jesus when we are placed in Him through our faith in Him and His work for us.

²¹For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

The Lord God is not going to have a religious ritual that is identified with works righteousness be symbolized by the ordinance of baptism which represents Christ’s obedient work on our behalf which then results in the righteousness that comes from faith.

Now one of Protestant’s favorite fathers goes into great lengths to justify infant baptism. John Calvin allots a whole chapter in his Institutes of the Christian Religion to the subject of infant baptism. In the section headed 9. The blessing of infant baptism Calvin writes this:

Accordingly, let those who embrace the promise that God’s mercy is to be extended to their children

deem it their duty to offer them to the church to be sealed by the symbol of mercy, and thereby to

arouse themselves to a surer confidence, because they see with their very eyes the covenant of the

Lord engraved upon the bodies of their children. On the other hand, the children receive some

benefit from their baptism: being engrafted into the body of the church, they are somewhat more

commended to the other members. Then, when they have grown up, they are greatly spurred to an

earnest zeal for worshiping God, by whom they were received as children through a solemn symbol

of adoption before they were old enough to recognize Him as Father. Finally, we ought to be greatly

afraid of that threat, that God will wreak vengeance upon any man who disdains to mark his child

with the symbol of the covenant; for by such contempt the proffered grace is refused, and, as it were,

foresworn.

Calvin is making this all up. He has no Scriptural basis for what he is commanding parents do for their children under the penalty of disowning the faith if they don’t comply and the proffered blessing of seeing the grown children become worshipers of God because of their infant baptism. In actuality, it is the other way around, those who baptize their children as infants presuming upon the grace of God that their children are then sealed and adopted by God at that point believe in a works righteousness salvation where they have assisted in this religious ritual that has saved their children. What does God’s Word say?

¹²But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: ¹³who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12-13

These verses say the exact opposite of what Calvin said. When an individual believes in God’s Son Jesus Christ and believes that He died on the cross for their sins and rose again from the dead for their justification, then God gives them the right to become His children. Baptism of infants is a work of the flesh that insists that the birthright of the child gives them a special standing with God based upon the decision of a man. This is a man-made grid of doctrine that is leading many astray and to hell. Church rolls are filled with apostates who were baptized as infants.

Most of the Protestant denominations practice infant baptism: Anglicans, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists, Nazarenes, United Church of Christ, Moravian Church, Metropolitan Community Church, Wesleyans, Episcopalians, and Reformed churches. Most of these denominations are apostate, and few churches within these denominations hold to the truth of the Scriptures.

There is a movement for reconciliation between the Pope and the Anglican and Lutheran church. Most of the denominations do not care about sin as defined in the Scriptures and those that do, such as the Presbyterian Church, to a large degree have embraced the works righteousness false doctrine. This is what happens when a little leaven leavens the whole lump: apostasy. (Galatians 5:9) By refusing to reject the false teaching of infant baptism, the Protestant church ensured its doom. Jjust like the engineers who worked on the 1999 Mars Climate Orbiter, being off just a little resulted in complete destruction.

Let us throw off the works of the flesh and refuse to accept anything that is reasoned out from the unregenerate mind of man without Scriptural support so that we are not led to our own doom. God bless you through His Son Jesus Christ as you strive to stay true to Him.

Operation Blessings was Really Operation Blood Diamonds – Or how Pat Robertson took millions in donations and funded diamond mines in Africa. Originally, this story was broke by Robertson’s hometown newspaper. This writer covered some of the updates five or six years ago. If memory serves, the pilots testified that of 49 missions flown, only five or six had any relief supplies at all.

That story got squelched and there was no Corporate Media follow-up. This spiking of that story proved more than anything that Pat Robertson was a protected part of the world system, not a “conservative Christian preacher of the gospel.” Now, the Guardian (UK) is not only picking up that story, but has promoted a documentary about the sad affair.

(AUDIO) John MacArthur: Take the Mark of the Beast and Still be Saved – This is what happens when teachings are distorted until few can remember what the Bible originally says. Error begets error begets error begets error. Eventually, one ends up with a teaching such as the one here. But to get to this teaching, layer upon layer of false teachings had to be built on a foundation of twisted scripture.

It’s going to get worse–much worse. MacArthur is not the first to say this. The Left Behind series also had an instance of someone “being forced” into taking the mark–and later being saved. There are so many fairy tales masquerading as Christianity. Many are on display in this short five minute audio clip.

Seems pretty clear, huh? Unless you’re a 2013 American Christian, who is used to inventing “escape clauses” for every inconvenient Bible verse. No vagueness, no waffling, no guessing: take the mark and drink of the wrath of God–forever. Maybe John MacArthur will show up in defense of all who take the mark when God judges them? Wonder who will win that debate?

“And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

In the future, Christians will be buffeted by even more deception and false doctrine than they are now. What’s the answer?

The Bible says one must have a “love of the truth“–not a “love of the convenient” or a “love of comfort” or a “love of what popular teachers teach.” Our God is a loving One. His Word will light your way. Ask for wisdom; He is not stingy.

Unfortunately, in these last days, the world does not have to attack the word of God so very hard. Most of the attacks on the Bible are now coming from within the walls of the church itself, at the hands of those who carry the label of “Christian.”

Revival and Revivalism: A Review – Excellent review examining “revivalism,” a trend which entered the American Christian church during the mid- to late-1800s. What is fascinating is that those who fought for biblical “revival”–which is something altogether different from revivalism–accurately predicted what would become of the American church if revivalism became the order of the day. Unfortunately for the church, the forces of revivalism won.

Now it is almost 2014 and most American Christians are very familiar with revivalism and it’s sacred cows. Very few are familiar with biblical revival. Which is why pretend Christians proliferated–along with the methods used to manufacture them.

How can there be Revival without Repentance?

The new “revivals” don’t speak a whole lot about sin and the need for repentance. The Benny Hinn Honolulu Miracle Crusade offered a model. Lots of talk of power, anointing, the Spirit, God moving, miracles, angels, healings–even speaking with the dead. Little talk of Jesus, even less of sin or why mankind would need a savior. A savior from what?

Critical Thinking a Hallmark of Common Core class – This NPR article is complete and utter disinformation.

Common Core is public education slop distilled and bottled. Will Common Core restore the lost art of critical thinking? No. Critical thinking is not part of Common Core curriculum.

Oh, “critical thinking skills” may be on the Common Core list, but all one has to do is look around. Can the youth who have been subjected to a pre-Common Core public education engage in critical thinking? Forget the youth: How many adults have critical thinking skills?

The game plan has been to destroy logic and critical thinking and the plan has succeeded beyond the educational drones‘ wildest dreams. A mindless slave is a slave who is easier to control. The educational establishment has been in the business of turning out programmable Deltas for some time now.

Attempts to analyze Bible verses and their applications are simply beyond the capabilities of many these days. (Or rather, perhaps it’s the desire to analyze a Bible verse which is the problem.) A population devoid of logic, critical thinking and other mental skills once considered basic to an education, is a population largely incapable of defending itself against error and deception. It is also a population wide open to indoctrination.

Indoctrination is what replaces logic and critical thinking when those skills go out the window.

Indoctrination “is often distinguished from education by the fact that the indoctrinated person is expected not to question or critically examine the doctrine they have learned.”

Some might trumpet, “I’ve got the Holy Ghost. I don’t need no stinkin’ logic!”

It is true: there is absolutely no substitute for spiritual discernment. If one relies only on critical thinking or man’s logic, then those will not suffice. Many have been deceived who were excellent critical thinkers or logicians.

Our enemy is defeated, but he is cunning and resourceful. Any time we trust to our own power for spiritual matters, the outcome will be a disappointing one.

One must have spiritual discernment–and one must employ that discernment for it to do any good.

John 16:13 says the Holy Spirit will guide a Christian into the truth. To guide presumes a willingness to be led. It doesn’t say anything about forcing the unwilling to the truth. 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 warns that for those who receive not the love of the truth, “God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.”

Paul wasn’t writing this to pagans. He was warning Christians in Thessalonica.

If that doesn’t make Christians in American just a tad uneasy, what will it take?

A “love of the truth.”

A “love of the truth” is critically examining what one has been taught to see if it lines up with the Bible. In the last days apostate church, many popular teachings have largely escaped critical examination. Taken from books and other forms of the Christian mass media, they have become accepted and passed on as Bible verses once were.

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?”
—Jeremiah 5:31

How else to explain the flood of “Christian” best-sellers that, upon closer examination, are more intent on indoctrinating Christians into “A New Thing” than reaffirming the Bible? Christians pass along such books as The Circle Maker, The Shack, The Harbinger, How to be a Bad Christian and a Better Human Being, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and hundreds more like them. (While searching for bad Christian books, I came across this article [Bad Christian Books: The Cause and the Cure]. Can the reader tell I heartily agree?)

Cults do not allow critical examination. Repressive governments don’t have a “love of the truth.”

And in 2013 America, “a love of the truth” is in woefully short supply.

In these last days, the most convenient answer to “Where is it written?” seems to be “How dare you!”

The really sad part: if Christians don’t redeem their time and search the scriptures as the Bereans did, there will be someone at some point who will supply the “truth” for them. The enemy isn’t shy about using Christian terms to describe activities associated with the antichrist spirit.

A Love of the Truth

10 Bible Verses: the Truth found in God’s Word

The word of God is true, pure and a lamp to light our path (Psalm 119:105). The word of God is alive, powerful and sharper than any twoedged sword. God’s word is truth.

Do you have a love of the truth?

Thy word is truth.
—John 17:17

“Thy word is true from the beginning:”

“For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

A LOVE OF THE TRUTH

Christians are to have a love of the truth, which is the pure Word of God. We are not to be satisfied with the fables, traditions, doctrines or commandments of men. For this, we will be held accountable to God.

We are not to add to or take away from. We are not to enhance scripture from our imaginations. We are not to follow teachers who teach speculation for the word of God.

We are to have a “love of the truth.”

“And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:”
—2 Thessalonians 2:10-11

“Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.”
—Titus 1:14

“But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.”
—1 Timothy 4:7

Unfortunately, in the last days, those in the apostate church will turn away from the truth in God’s word. They will construct doctrines more pleasing to their ears and circumstance. They will replace the word of God with the commandments and doctrines of men.

“And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
—2 Timothy 4:4

“But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
—Matthew 15:9

We’re not to “enhance” God’s word with our own imaginations. We’re to preserve the word of God, not add to it nor take away from it.

“You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.”
—Deuteronomy 4:2

**Jesus Christ: The Living Word of God.**

The word of God points to the living Word, Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth and the life.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
—John 1:1

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.”
—John 14:6

“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:”

“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.”

Believers are to not to accept doctrine on man’s say s0–even if that man is a popular Bible teacher they may see on TV. They are to search the scriptures daily.

“And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
—Acts 17:10-11

Christians have a Helper to guide them into all truth: the Holy Spirit. They have to be receptive to the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

Every word in the Bible is important. Every word was placed there for a reason. The Bible is not a creation of men, though men were used in the making of it. At least forty men working over 1500 years and writing in three languages.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God,”

Man depends on every word of scripture which comes from the mouth of God Himself.

“And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.”

All scripture will lead the reader to the truth of Jesus Christ in whom we have been offered the free gift of salvation.
