The World’s Ineffective Remedies for Torment and Affliction

scream

IF one listens carefully, one will hear–from the complaints of sufferers–that moderns endure a wide variety of torments and afflictions.

While many consider torments and afflictions to be of a purely PHYSICAL nature, they are also MENTAL, EMOTIONAL and SPIRITUAL as well.

One feature of torment is that often what is causing the torment to the sufferer might seem like a trivial matter to an onlooker.

One of the most frequently complained about torments is FEAR and its relatives: doubt, anxiety, worry and apprehension.

FEAR is often treated as an emotional or mental problem, but FEAR is a spiritual one.

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”
–1JOHN 4:18

One very common torment is being afflicted with doubt, anxiety and fear.

“The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
–Proverbs 28:1

One very common manifestation of this constant nagging worry is the feeling that SOMETHING might be wrong; that somehow, something VERY IMPORTANT has been forgotten.

Many know of the person who has devised a hundred-and-one reminders so he won’t forget anything important. Ribbons or string tied to the finger; dozens of sticky notes posted on refrigerators, TVs, computers, books, EVERYWHERE;

Many know of the person who, before leaving to go somewhere, checks, double-checks and then re-checks to make sure that he didn’t leave on a light, the stove, his computer, whatever.  Even after all of the checking, the nagging doubt persists, causing such a person to make ONE FINAL CHECK–to reassure himself one last time before leaving.

Perhaps that person is the reader himself?

From a recent conversation:

“Ready to go?”

“Almost.  I have to check the back room to make sure I didn’t leave the computer on.”

“Alright then.”

(After checking his back room, he prepared to leave.  The driver got into the car and started it; the passenger walked to the car, reached for the door handle, stopped, returned to his front door, unlocked it and re-entered his home. After a short while, he reappeared, re-locked the front door and entered the car.)

“You ready now?”

“Yeah.  I had to check the back room.”

“But you checked the back room once before we left the house.”

“No, I checked the computer before.  I didn’t check the coffee pot. I wanted to make sure I turned it off.”

“Constantly checking and then going back to re-check: that’s an affliction.”

“No doubt about it. You got that right: I am afflicted.”
The Daily Torment of Many Small Afflictions

Though moderns may complain about a great many torments and afflictions, the world offers nothing but its own ineffective remedies.

1- One of the most common “remedies” offered by the world’s authorities is DRUGS.

But DRUGS do not address the root cause of the affliction: mostly, DRUGS only allow the sufferer to not physically feel the effects of the torment as much as he might otherwise.

DRUGS deaden the pain.

Eventually, after “changing prescriptions” and other drug-related doings, drugs usually prove to be ultimately ineffective.

2- Another common “remedy” for torment and/or affliction is one or another flavor of THERAPY.

Does the reader know of anyone who has been “in therapy” (usually psychiatric)  for MONTHS or YEARS?  When asked how they are getting along, many will respond with “Well, I’ve still got my problems, but I’m making progress!”

THERAPY does not take care of torment or affliction so much as it makes the sufferer feel better about  the pains of his affliction.

3- GIVING UP.

This is another way of saying, “We’re going to teach you how to live with your problem.”

“Yes, your problem is a bad circumstance, but you are just going to have to learn to deal with it.”

So many moderns live with so many torments–some of them debilitating.

Most of the world’s remedies may be ineffective–but they ALL give the sufferer the feeling that at least he’s doing something about his problem–even if what he is doing is not particularly effective.

Doesn’t it seem odd that, with all of the various “crazy” solutions offered by the world, that NONE of them address that there may be “agents of torment?”

Doesn’t it seem odd that none examine that there may be a reason for torment?

That torment might be a judgment?

Odd.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

Why Quote the Bible to Those Who Do Not Believe It?

THE BIBLE INFORMS THE FAITH OF THE BELIEVER

An interesting question was posed recently.

“You use a LOT of Bible verses.  You take the time to look them up and then quote them to people who do not believe the Bible.  How come?”

This was not only a NEW question, it was the type of question which required a bit of thought before answering.

And so, AT THE TIME, “That’s a good question.” was the response.

After a bit of thinking on the matter, it is now time to look up the person who originally asked the question and provide a better answer.

Why quote the Bible to those who do not believe it?

1- The Word of God is powerful.

To NOT use it is to forfeit a powerful weapon against deception.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
–Hebrews 4:12

“Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?”
–Jeremiah 23:29

2- The Bible is the Truth–the ONLY truth in the world today.

Even a non-believer places value on the truth.

Truth is also a powerful weapon against deception.

“thy word is truth.”
–John 17:17

3- The Word of God is a powerful spiritual weapon.

One has to use the best weapons available for effective spiritual warfare.

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”
–Ephesians 6:17

4-One cannot preach the gospel of Jesus Christ without using the Word of God–specifically, 1CORINTHIANS 15:3-8.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the “power of God unto salvation.”

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

To NOT use the gospel is a victory for Satan.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:3-8

5- Though a person may not be a believer at the time the Bible is quoted to him, perhaps he becomes one later.  And THEN, the Word of God will truly be like a “twoedged sword.

But this cannot happen if the person NEVER hears the Word of God.

A person’s spiritual state is not always stagnant.

One may be a lukewarm heathen one day and a believer the next.

Hearing the Word of God will help open hearts and minds.

6- The only way one can build faith is to hear the Word of God.

Without hearing the Word of God, there can be no faith-building.

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
–Romans 10:17

7- The Word of God WILL prevail.

Many moderns have been taught that the Bible is nothing more than a collection of word by mere men.

However, the Word of God IS the Word of God: it is stronger than any words of men and it has proved this throughout history–even though most history is written by the wicked.

“But the word of God grew and multiplied.”
–Acts 12:24

“So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.”
–Acts 19:20

By denying those who do not believe God’s Word a chance to hear the Word of God, one is denying those unbelievers an opportunity to build their faith–little though it may be at present time.

ANY of the seven reasons listed is a better answer than the one originally given.

DOES the reader believe in the power of God’s Word?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

False Teachers KNOW End Times Man is Fascinated by Colorful Charts

colorful chart

The Bible predicts (more than once!) that the end times will be full of FALSE ONES: false teachers, false prophets and false Christs.

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.”
–2PETER 2:1

“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”
–Matthew 24:10

“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”
–Matthew 24:24

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
–1JOHN 4:1

And so it is.

From the many emails received and the many videos released on YouTube, one gets the distinct impression that false teachers believe the lost may be snared with little more than a pretty picture…

…or chart…

or timeline…

…or diagram…

…and a pretty story, of course.

IN FACT, in the times in which we live, one of the distinguishing marks of a false teacher appear to be the endless number of colorful charts and timelines he churns out.

And the stories SOUND good to the lost.

And the colorful charts and timelines LOOK good to the lost.

However, upon closer examination, NONE of the exacting, nonsensical pictures–or information–these false teachers offer is biblical.

THEN why do they do it?

1- These false teachers have stumbled upon a secret: add a catchy title to an eye-grabbing graphic and–voila!–the ignorant will buy your book or  DVD.  AND IF the lost laps up enough of this bilge, the false teachers are MUCH more likely to be seen on the speakers’ list at one of the countless, false “prophecy conferences.”

2- These false teacher have also stumbled upon ANOTHER secret: end times man is FASCINATED by colorful charts attached to unbiblical, pretty stories.

3- The FALSE ONES (workers of iniquity) labor for Satan.

And Jesus Christ called Satan the “father of lies.”

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
–John 8:44

HAS the reader ever been the recipient of a pretty chart attached to a story about the end times?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Saving the Planet/Humanity/The Earth

save the planet

A little over twenty-five years ago, P.J. O’Rourke made an astute observation about those who want to SAVE THE EARTH.

People with a mission to save the earth want the earth to seem worse than it is so their mission will look more important.”

This is something for the reader to keep in mind the next time he hears tales of those who want to SAVE THE WORLD.

BUT, while thought-provoking, O’Rourke’s comment did not get to the heart of the matter.

Almost fifty years before O’Rourke took his shot at those who claim to want to SAVE THE WORLD, a book of H.L.Mencken‘s was published which contained words which addressed that same group who insist that they just want to SAVE HUMANITY.

“The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it. “

And THAT is something the reader definitely needs to bear in mind the next time he reads or hears of those who “just want to SAVE MANKIND” from the scourge of the “climate crisis” OR “the rising oceans.

DOES the reader believe that all who want to save the earth/humanity/the planet are only concerned about the well-being of mankind?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
