Because modern man–especially the modern American–is surrounded by deception and lies, he can no longer tell the truth from lies.
Because modern man–especially the modern American–can no longer tell the truth from lies, he believes the many (the government, the media, the education system, celebrities, polls, politicians, studies, scientists, experts, researchers, doctors) who lie to him.
Because modern man–especially the modern American–DOES NOT have a love for the truth, God Almighty will send him strong delusion so that he might more easily believe a lie.
“And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
–2Thessalonians 2:10-12
Because modern man–particularly the modern American–believe the many who lie to him, he does not know the true nature of his problems.
Because modern man–particularly the modern American–does not know the true nature of his problems, he can not find the solution to his problems.
Because modern man–particularly the modern American–cannot find the solution to his problems, he is beset by affliction and torment.
” The LORD will smite thee with the botch of Egypt, and with the emerods, and with the scab, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed. The LORD shall smite thee with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of heart: And thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled evermore, and no man shall save thee.”

And so modern man–especially the modern American–is daily tormented and afflicted.
All because modern man–especially the modern American–has turned his back on the truth.
