There is a Reason FEW Are Saved

Few there be

“Enter ye in at the strait [narrow] gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
–Matthew 7:13-14

One of the hardest concepts for modern man to accept–particularly those who congregate in the churches–is the idea that only a FEW will be saved–while MANY will prance merrily along the broad way to destruction.

WHY is this concept–so basic to the Bible–so hard for modern man to grasp?

Some thought/discussion has been devoted to this topic over the past several years: Why is it so hard for modern man to believe that only a few will be eternally saved?

Part of the reason is that modern man is constantly taught that he is a “good person.”

The Bible disagrees.

“They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Psalm 14:3

“Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Psalm 53:3

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Romans 3:10-12

Another reason is that modern man has been taught to “validate himself.”

In other words, IF not enough of the people around you are telling you what a great person you are, you tell yourself how special you are.

Putting Yourself First: Finding Worth and Validation Inside

The most important relationship you have is your relationship with yourself. So many of us ignore ourselves, take ourselves for granted, function on automatic pilot or at the whims and desires of others without knowing exactly what we want until something happens we definitely don’t want.

What does the Bible say about self-validation?

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
–Proverbs 14:12

“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes”
–Proverbs 21:2

These are certainly true.

However, the Number One reason it is so hard for moderns to accept that FEW will be eternally saved while the MANY will be tormented?

Unbelief.

Modern man simply does not believe God’s Word.  In addition, modern man does not believe a message which doesn’t stroke his ego and tell him how wonderful he is.

That FEW are saved is a hard message which requires a change of direction (repentance) to accept.

And THAT also is one of the chief reasons so FEW are on the narrow road to salvation.

No amount of idle chit chat or blah-blah-blah will turn a sinner into a saint.

So modern man will ignore this information from God’s Word–because modern man will not have such an unyielding judgment hanging over his head.

NOT when there are any number of worldly sources telling him how wonderful he is;’ how modern man is “destined for greatness” and similar ego-stroking messages.

Oh, there are a number who will SAY “Few are saved.”

BUT do they believe it?  The rest of their conversations do not offer support for what their mouths claim to be true: that only a few are saved.

DOES the reader believe the Bible, how FEW are saved?

DOES the reader believe the Bible at all?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
