God’s Promise to Believers: O Death, Where is Thy Sting?

THE PROMISE TO BELIEVERS: O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
THE PROMISE TO BELIEVERS: O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

Satan tries to get people to concentrate on this lost, corrupt world and the things this world offers: pets, family, friends, cars, money, job, vacation, lifestyle. Failing that, the devil resorts to playing on lost humanity’s fear of death. But believers have the promise of God through Jesus Christ and have LOST their fear of death.

O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
1 Corinthians 15:55

The devil’s greatest work is to convince people that this rotten, corrupt world is all that there is. The devil’s lie is to focus on this world: forget about eternity.

The here and now is so real; the eternal is so far away and unreal.

Failing that, Satan’s second-greatest work is to convince people that it’s easy to be born again and walk into eternal salvation.

Finally, the enemy’s last-ditch efforts revolve around ramping up the human fear of death and the desperate clinging to the world and the things of this world.

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
1 John 2:15

Standing in stark contrast to all of this is the promise to believers on Jesus Christ: that death is not an impending doom, it is a blessed promotion into glory.

And not just a promotion into glorious, eternal fellowship with God Almighty and His Son, Jesus Christ BUT an INSTANTANEOUS promotion into the afterlife.

“Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 5:6-8

And what is that promise that all believers have?

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
John 3:16-18

For true believers, fear of death is no longer fear.

Losing the fear of death is one of the greatest gifts Jesus Christ bestowed upon believers.

Truly, O death, where is thy sting?

Indeed.

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:”
Philippians 1:21,23

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”
1 Corinthians 1:18-19

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
