Christmas was suppressed in Puritan New England for over 200 years – (h/t:SL)

“Christmas celebrations in Puritan New England (1620–1850?) were culturally and legally suppressed and thus, virtually non-existent. The Puritan community found no Scriptural justification for celebrating Christmas, and associated such celebrations with paganism and idolatry .

New England finally gave in and joined the party circa 1850–when Christmas Day became a federal holiday.

The Plymouth Pilgrims put their loathing for the day into practice in 1620 when they spent their first Christmas Day in the New World building their first structure in the New World – thus demonstrating their complete contempt for the day.[4]

A year later on December 25, 1621, Governor William Bradford led a work detail into the forest and discovered some recent arrivals among the crew had scruples about working on the day.^[1]^[3] Bradford noted in his history of the colony, Of Plymouth Plantation:

“On the day called Christmas Day, the Governor called [the settlers] out to work as was usual. However, the most of this new company excused themselves and said it went against their consciences to work on that day. So the Governor told them that if they made it [a] matter of conscience, he would spare them till they were better informed; so he led away the rest and left them.”

When the Governor and his crew returned home at noon they discovered those left behind playing stool-ball, pitching the bar, and pursuing other sports.^[4] Bradford confiscated their implements, reprimanded them, forbade any further reveling in the streets, and told them their devotion for the day should be confined to their homes.

But, like the Roman Catholic Church during the Dark Ages, IF the Duck Guy recants and speaks the saving words (“I Love the Gay!”), all will be forgiven and Duck Guy will be back on the Sacred TV Screen in time for season five.

The Drudge Report continued in its tradition of displaying photos of elites/celebrities using occult hand signs. On Wednesday, it was a picture of B. Obama using one of the satanic devil horns signs, mainstreamed into popular culture over the last 10 years as the “call me on the telephone” sign.

This is one of Obama’s favorites. Since he frequently flashes the sign when he obviously is not saying “Call me,” an alternate explanation had to be contrived by the Corporate Media. Lately, it’s been called the “shaka sign” and is supposedly a Hawaiian hand sign which means “hang loose.”

Which is why Barbara Bush flashed it back in the day–she was a little-known but huge surfing enthusiast.

WASTE: Waste and fraud in Washington DC--or something else? — **WASTE:** Waste and fraud in Washington DC–or something else?

Coburn: Feds wasted $30 billion: Facebook, collecting human urine, studies – Writing about government “waste” and “fraud” in the Corporate Media is like the weather: everyone talks about it, but no one seems to be able to do anything about it.

Ever wonder why that is? Really, the media is constantly informing Americans of the rampant waste in their government but little gets done and the numbers “lost” keep getting bigger and bigger. The fix definitely is in. But think about it: if there are so many billions (trillions?) of dollars floating around just being “wasted,” why aren’t the ones at the top getting a slice of that tasty pie? Is it because our politicians in Washington are moral beacons and wouldn’t do such a thing?

Of course not. What if that money wasn’t “wasted”? What if most of that money were stolen instead? That would make the reps in The DC (Den of Corruption) thieves and the Corporate Media narratives about waste “cover stories” to keep the rubes whose pockets are being picked from getting restless.

There are LOTS of articles, hearings and stories–because they are setting up the narrative that it is “waste” and “fraud.” Not THEFT.

Makes a lot more sense than the fairy tales about “billions of dollars are being “wasted” and no one has ever been able to do anything about it–ever.” No one. Not the senate; not the House of Representatives; not the president. No one. Doesn’t matter which party is in power. If it were really all waste, even an incompetent person would stop some of it some of the time.

Is Congress Turning Off Your Televangelist? Christian broadcasters speak out against a new measure from Rep. Steve Scalise. – So Congress wants to do something about the Benny Hinns, the Jesse Duplantises, the Pat Robertsons, the other other wolves?

Here’s some speculation: Congress will “aim” for the wolves, miss completely and hit regular pastors who have small platforms for sharing the gospel. Does that sound too conspiratorial?

Mandela Memorial Fake Sign Language Interpreter: Wasn’t His First Time

It’s his story…

–And He’s Sticking to It

THAMSANQA JANTJIE, the fake sign language interpreter who showed up at the Mandela Memorial and pretended to be dishing out sign language to an international audience watching via satellite, is a compelling if not completely bizarre, story.

Apparently, this was not the first time the gentlemen tried to make it big in sign language without actually possessing the skills.

Mandela service sign language interpreter failed in 2012 with ‘self-invented’ gestures

A “fake” sign language interpreter who claimed to suffer an on-stage schizophrenic episode during Nelson Mandela’s memorial service failed to communicate a single word of a speech made by South African President Jacob Zuma more than a year ago.

More than a year ago.

One would have thought that that bit of resume-building on the part of THAMSANQA JANTJIE would have alerted the authorities. But no, THAMSANQA was at the podium nevertheless.

It was reported that the Mandela memorial was organized by the South African government and that JANTJIE had been employed by the African National Congress on at least two previous occasions without incident.

Since it doesn’t appear that JANTJIE knows sign language–at least any organized system of known sign language–that means that on at least two occasions, anyone who was paying attention to JANTJIE was treated to two handfuls of gibberish.

And yet, there he was: failing to perform on a worldwide stage. JANTJIE ought to be the poster child for the Peter Principle: Employees tend to rise to their level of incompetence.

But THAMSNQA wasn’t without his reasons for his epic letdown. He told the Johannesburg’s Star newspaper that he suffered from schizophrenia which overwhelmed him while on stage.

Apparently, he “started hearing voices and hallucinating while on stage.”

Mandela memorial ‘fake’ sign language interpreter defends himself

Jantjie explained how the condition has affected him: “I see angels come to the stadium. Sometimes I will react violently on that place. Sometimes I will see things chasing me. You know, I was in a very very difficult position,” he said.

South Africa’s leading deaf association has pronounced JANTJIE a “fake.” The South African government has admitted that JANTJIE has no professional credentials. As JANTJIE declares that he is a “champion” at sign language, apparently the self-esteem movement is active in South Africa.

So what now? One man’s take:

The fake sign language interpreter at Mandela’s memorial is an irresistible metaphor for our times

Leaving aside the insult to the deaf, however, you have to admire him. Though he has apparently performed this function for the ANC before – could it be that there is something they don’t want the deaf to know? – it still takes courage to appear before the world quite so ill-equipped for what you are employed to do.

So it appears that everyone will have a good laugh–except for the deaf folks–and forget about the whole thing. The news cycle will roll on down the road another 48 hours and the world will largely forget about THAMSANQA JANTJIE.

And that seems to be the state of the world today.

No matter what field–politics, finance, sign language–we’re treated to a never-ending parade of those failing to do their jobs and then claiming incompetence or schizophrenia or something.

Whatever it is, they just can’t do their jobs. And they always have a reason why they can’t do their jobs.

They never run out of reasons.

Which brings us to the saddest realization of all.

We are now living in a world without consequences, especially for those at the top of the food chain–or even for those who are signing for the top of the food chain.

It doesn’t matter if it’s BARACK OBAMA, JOHN BOEHNER, PAUL RYAN.

Or THAMSANQA JANTJIE.

House pushes through Ryan-Murray compromise spending bill – Which is almost the president’s original wish list.

“This bill saves more than if we did nothing,” Mr. Ryan said, adding that the bill does not go as far as he’d like. “It is not near the breadth and the scope of the budget that we passed earlier. But that is how it works in divided government. That is the nature of compromise.”

Ah, the plucky Mr. Ryan.

The “nature of politics” is usually cited in cases such as this and the rank selling out (compromise) of one’s principles is hailed everywhere–but especially in the Corporate Media–as “reasonable, just and a sign of being able to govern.” In this regard, Paul Ryan has uniquely shown himself to be reasonable, just and able to govern.

The deal covers the next two years. At least it puts Ryan on record for for not only supporting but masterminding the sell-out. Of course, Ryan was already on record for any number of past votes (FOR the many bailouts, FOR TARP, FOR all of Obama’s 2009 agenda) but Americans are notorious for especially stunted attention spans.

How many weeks before the public will be back lapping up the media’s portrayal of Ryan as a “tough, no-compromising budget hawk?”

The over/under is sixteen. Sixteen weeks is almost an eternity in American politics–longer than that in American political reporting. Certainly no one in the Corporate Media will remember the events which took place in December in April, when the 2014 primary season will be in full swing. Who can possibly remember that long?

Although we in no way approve of wagering, we say take the under.

Bipartisan budget deal puts Ryan under fire from conservatives – Not sure why. As stated, Ryan has no history of fiscal conservatism. If conservatives would have done their homework, they would know that. Conservatives in Ryan’s Wisconsin congressional district certainly know better. So does ultra-liberal MSNBC: The Myth of Paul Ryan, Fiscal Conservative. That headline sounds strangely familiar to this writer. Almost like a 2011 piece by the same name…

MSNBC mentions that Ryan supported big spending under Bush, but is silent on his free-spending ways in support of Barack Obama’s agenda. Odd that MSNBC–who supposedly hates the ideology of Paul Ryan–would squander the opportunity to politically wound the Wisconsin Republican by pointing out his support of Barack Obama.

Every time Congress undertakes a “bipartisan budget deal” citizens are advised to hang onto their wallets. Amid all of the self-congratulatory hand-shakes, smiles and mugging for the TV cameras, is the reality that Americans’ pockets are about to be picked by the DC cartel once more.
