666: Ho Hum, Time to Take the Mark of the Beast

yawn

“And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.”
–Revelation 13:15-18

“And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.”
–Revelation 14:9-11

One remembers that years ago–as an eager, pubescent learner–being amazed at Revelation 13’s account of the mark of the beast.

That long-ago amazement was caused by a few thoughts.

  1. How could so many throw away their eternal happiness by taking on the mark of the beast?
  2. Couldn’t those end times people run away from the obvious evil that was 666, the mark of the beast and the worship of the man of sin’s idol?
  3. With God throwing down all sorts of terrible judgments upon the earth and its inhabitants (Revelation 16), why wouldn’t any save themselves by repenting INSTEAD of their totally-ineffective blaspheming God“?

Having a much better view of end times man presently than that long-ago youth, it is MUCH easier to answer those questions NOW than it was THEN.

How could so many throw away their eternal happiness by taking on the mark of the beast?

It was hard for that young fellow who was learning about the mark of the beast to comprehend just exactly how depraved and wicked end times man would become.  After decades of snide belittling of the Bible by ALL of the world’s many false authorities, end times man no longer believes God’s Word.  Oh, there are LOTS of folks who claim otherwise, but these are usually those who nod vigorously when asked if they believe the Bible–all the while thinking, “As long as it doesn’t contradict science OR my doctor OR the latest research and discoveries OR…”  IF one does not believe God’s Word, one does not believe the warnings in God’s Word.  IF one does not believe the warnings in God’s Word then one is completely surprised by the events which take place.  NOT BELIEVING GOD’S WORD is not an informational problem: it is a SPIRITUAL ONE.  And end times man is so deceived, he is a spiritual mess.

With God throwing down all sorts of terrible judgments upon the earth and its inhabitants, why wouldn’t any save themselves by repenting INSTEAD of their totally-ineffective “blaspheming God“?

“And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.”
–Revelation 16:8-9

“And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.”
–Revelation 9:20-21

“And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image. And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.”
–Revelation 16:2,10-11

“And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent [about 130 pounds]: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.”
–Revelation 16:21

That  youth of years-ago never counted on the supreme arrogancy of end times man.

That youth of so many years ago never considered the overarching PRIDE of end times man.

End times man had been told so many times he was a “little god,” that he eventually believed it.

Couldn’t those end times people run away from the obvious evil that was 666, the mark of the beast and the worship of the man of sin’s idol?

Besides the very BIG disadvantages of 1-NOT believing God’s Word and 2-being terribly deceived; end times man also has the GREAT disadvantage of looking at his life as just so many hoops to be jumped through in order to get to where he wants to go.

One can imagine more than one end times “to-do list” with the following–or very similar–items to be checked off: pick up the kids from school, check the oil and gas in the car, stop and get the mark of the beast, pick up Mom’s prescriptions,  get milk and bread.

Receiving the mark of the beast will likely elicit more end times YAWNS than end times TERROR–or even trepidation.

As it was for centuries: the mark of the beast (666) was a topic which caught the attention of the average person, not some small part of one’s daily end times grind.

And that is one result Satan has worked all of these many years to achieve.

“Ho hum.  I had to stop and get the mark of the beast today. What about you?”

“The doctor said I need to eat more broccoli.”

“And they worshipped the dragon [Satan] which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him.  And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
–Revelation 13:4,8

HAS the reader ever thought much about whether he will take the mark of the beast?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

Those Who Call Out to the LORD Will Be Delivered

call out to the LORD

“Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses. He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”
–Psalm 107:19-20

One of the great, never-ending benefits to being a member of the kingdom of heaven is that ALL who cry out to the LORD will be saved/delivered.

God’s Word makes this perfectly clear.

“For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
–Romans 10:11-13

The only disagreement among believers–slight though it may be–is whether Scripture is referring to a PHYSICAL saving from a man’s immediate dangers or whether it is referring to a SPIRITUAL (eternal) deliverance.

Or both.

IF one studies God’s Word, it becomes clear that Scripture is referring to both a physical AND a spiritual salvation.

Though many of the references could be referring to BOTH.

There is even a specific reference to the last days.

“And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.”
–Joel 2:30-32

The apostle Peter referenced Joel in Acts 2 when he was explaining to those present the miracles of the first Pentecost. (Peter referred to the events of that day taking place in the “last days“–“Last days” being used as many use the term “end times“: a time between when Jesus left the earth and when He will return.)

“But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
–Acts 2:16-21

Though some Bible verses may allude to a general deliverance to those who call out to the LORD, some are VERY SPECIFIC: Psalm 18 declares that the LORD will deliver those who cry out from ALL THEIR TROUBLES.

“The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”
–Psalm 34:17

Others promise a physical salvation from physical threats.

“I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.”
–Psalm 18:3

“As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me. Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice. He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me. God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old.”
–Psalm 55:16-19

However, THE IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER: to ALL who call out to the LORD: deliverance takes both a shorter (PHYSICAL) form and a longer (spiritually eternal) form.

Deliverance to those who cry out to the LORD is one of the great promises of God.

“For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee. Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications. In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.”
–Psalm 86:5-7

Words, Only Words

words, only words

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
–Philippians 4:7

During a (fairly) recent conversation about the importance of having peace in one’s life, the following (highly surprising!) comment was made.

“I think peace is over-rated.”

Asked to explain such a shocking thought, the man who made it didn’t back down.

“What’s peace ever done for me? I sleep good most of the time. If you haven’t done anything to worry about, you ought to sleep good.”

“But that’s not true.  You regularly complain about your spare cellphone battery being dead (in case there’s an electrical outage) or whether someone is messing with your stuff.”

“So?”

“So if you’re worried enough to be planning what to do if your spare cellphone isn’t working, you’re not at peace.  You’re fearful.”

“Fearful?”

“I’m not saying you’re terrified.  I’m saying you are not at peace.  That you don’t know what peace is–and if you ever had real true peace, you would put a HIGH value on it. In fact, even if you did know what true peace was, you wouldn’t trade it for all of the cold coffee in Columbia.”

It was at this point that it would have been helpful to have been able to quote an ETPR article from about six months ago, but at the time of the discussion, it was not remembered.

FEAR” is just a vague idea UNLESS one is afflicted with that which makes the blood pound in one’s ears and the heart jackhammer so hard, at times it seems it will beat a hole through one’s chest.

PEACE” is only a fuzzy concept UNLESS one has suffered from a lack of serenity.

[…]

To any who have lived through such periods of extreme doubt, mental unrest and anxiety, these thoughts are only the beginning of an old, familiar discussion which could last for days.

To everyone else?

They are just words.
Just Words

Those who long for peace tell themselves that everything will be better in the morning.  That their uneasiness is because of the darkness that is the night.

But then, those who long for peace very quickly find that sunlight provides little comfort.  In fact, sunlight causes a hundred-and-one different shapes and shadows which catch the eye of those without peace–shapes and shadows which are turned this way and that–as they play tricks on the one who desires rest and peace.

IF one has no peace, fear is more than just a word: it is a constant, nagging weight around one’s neck.

Though there was a BIT of backpedaling on the part of the one who made that so-surprising statement, he generally stuck to his initial claim that he thought “Peace is over-rated.”

Which he will certainly remember the next time that doubts interrupt what COULD HAVE BEEN a good night’s sleep.

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
–John 14:27

What Must the Workers of Iniquity Be Thinking As God’s Word Unfolds Before Them Daily?

thinking

Perhaps one of the easiest of ALL of the questions ever posed over the past seven years.

“What must the workers of iniquity be thinking as the Word of God unfolds daily before his very eyes?”

He will be thinking absolutely nothing out of the ordinary–as he does NOT believe that God’s Word is anything more than a collection of words written by various men.

1- The workers of iniquity do not believe God’s Word, having been taught from an early age that it is not to be believed.

2- Perhaps no group of people are so deceived as the workers of iniquity.

“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
–2TIMOTHY 3:13

“There are none so blind as those who will not see.”
–Popular proverb

Even workers of iniquity familiar with the events foretold in God’s Word will REFUSE to give them any credence as they are taking place.

3- Yes, God–through his great and unending mercy–will save a FEW of the workers of iniquity–but it will be God’s great mercy (grace), not anything they see or hear, which will make them alter the path they have chosen to walk.

4- When one has had it pounded into one’s head that God Almighty is nothing more than a powerless spirit, then NOTHING one sees will likely change those lessons from one’s youth.

5- God’s Word tells us that the masses of men on earth will be worshiping Satan and his man of sin’s satanic idol.  To do so requires a very high level of deception.

The workers of iniquity operate EVERY DAY from a VERY HIGH LEVEL of DECEPTION.

“And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
–Revelation 13:4,8

“What must the workers of iniquity be thinking as the Word of God unfolds daily before their very eyes?”

A number of them will be thinking–right up until the very end–“Gee, it won’t be long now and I won’t have to listen to any more of that God and Jesus junk ever again!”

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
