SUBTLE ATTACKS ON PREACHING THE GOSPEL

“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said…?”
Genesis 3:1

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL MESSAGE?

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”
Galatians 1:8

“As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”
Galatians 1:9

There seems to be some confusion about preaching the gospel message of Jesus Christ.  A great deal of that confusion comes from men offering “other gospels,” with tales of “another Jesus” and other commissions.

Especially confusing are the various attacks on the Great Commission and its clear command to preach the gospel.

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Mark 16:15

For those who have any confusion–or for those who want a refresher–here are five basics of the gospel message.

There are five elements to the gospel message:
  1. All men sin.  Sin is a problem for every human being.
  2. Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the price for that sin. By dying on the cross for sin, Jesus fulfilled Scripture.
  3. Jesus’ resurrection provided eternal life for all who would believe on Him.
  4. Salvation is a free gift of God offered to all.
  5. Jesus was seen after the resurrection by many people who declared–some at the cost of their life–that they had seen Him.

Paul clearly laid out the gospel of Jesus Christ.

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8

Paul explains it very clearly.

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”
Romans 10:13-15

Most Christians know that Paul was referring to the prophet Isaiah.  But Paul also could have been referring to the prophet Nahum.

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!”
Isaiah 52:7

“Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.”
Nahum 1:15

THE ATTACKS ON PREACHING THE GOSPEL USING THE GREAT COMMISSION

SATAN'S ADVICE: Forget about preaching the gospel and concentrate on making disciples. Yeah, that's the ticket!
SATAN’S ADVICE: Forget about preaching the gospel and concentrate on making disciples. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

The attack on preaching the gospel as part of the “Great Commission” has begun in earnest.  The attack on the Great Commission has been composed of several parts.  These include:

  1. Undermine the validity of Mark 16:8-20 (which contains the Great Commission).
  2. The recent teaching that preaching the gospel is “not enough” to fulfill the Great Commission.  In fact, one piece stated very boldly that preaching the gospel only is disobeying the Great Commission.
  3. The attacks on preaching the gospel in Matthew 28:19-20. These attacks go something on the order of “…in the original Greek, the only specific command in Matthew 28:19-20 is “make disciples.”

And how were the apostles to make disciples? From Matthew Poole’s Commentary [1683]

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations; the Greek is mayhteusate, make disciples all nations; but that must be first by preaching and instructing them in the principles of the Christian faith, and Mark expounds it, telling us our Saviour said, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature, that is, to every reasonable creature capable of hearing and receiving it.

By switching the emphasis from “preaching the gospel” to “making disciples,” future members of the whore Church will be taught according to men–not the clear Word of God.  That type of “discipleship” is taking place in the present day under the guise of “making prayer warriors” or “raising up an army for God.”

MAN OF SIN: Satan is Raising Up an End Times Army

This de-emphasis on preaching the gospel, along with shifting the focus to “making disciples” is a recipe for future disaster.  But the Bible quite clearly says future disaster is where the Church is headed.  In fact, the Bible warns of the “whore”–which is the apostate Church of the end times.

Whores aren’t built in a day. And so, the whore is actively being constructed in our present day.  The attack on principles which clearly guided Christianity for centuries is one of the foundations upon which the whore Church is to be built.

The recent attacks on the preaching of the gospel as insufficient to fulfill the Great Commission are surely one of the most disturbing developments in the transformation of Christianity into the whore Church.

The most disturbing part?  These attacks have originated from those purporting to defend God’s Word.  Instead of defending it, they have chosen, for whatever reason, to subtly twist, distort and undermine it.

THE GOSPEL’S PURE MESSAGE

To sum up: How are men to be saved?

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power

of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
Romans 1:16

Therefore:

Put on the whole armor of God, especially your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace”  [Ephesians 6:15].

…go preach the gospel! Teaching the nations of all that Jesus commanded!  Preach the gospel!

And let NO MAN tell you any differently.
