BEWARE: False Prophets of the Internet

BEWARE FALSE PROPHETS
BEWARE FALSE PROPHETS

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”
Matthew 7:15

The Bible has many passages warning of false prophets and false teachers in the last days. Apparently, they are routinely ignored by most people.

The Internet is full of websites claiming to be Christian but preaching contrary to the Bible. Nowhere is this more noticeable than in the many, many websites which claim to speak for God.

Usually, these sites have a “prophet” or “prophetess” who, if the reader doesn’t look too closely, appears to be mimicking Bible verses.

But something contrary to God’s Word is usually embedded in their bland, extraneous messages.

These false prophets flourish despite what the Bible says about such pronouncements.

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;”
Hebrews 1:1-2

This doesn’t mean that God can not speak to His people. Occasionally, He does. But God WILL NEVER say anything contrary to what is written in His Word.

However, who has the time to test what has been spoken in God’s name against what is written in His Word?

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
1 John 4:1

God’s people have always had problems with those who claim to speak in God’s name. The Old Testament is full of stories of false prophets telling the people what they wanted to hear. This made God’s message from HIS prophets much less popular.

“Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.”
Jeremiah 23:32

Jesus, in particular, warned of false prophets arising in the last days. Deception was one of His main concerns.

“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”
Matthew 24:11

But Satan is a tricky fellow (as are his minions) and he knows that people LOVE to have the “inside scoop” on what’s going to happen. Satan works hard to deceive the masses and the masses, unfortunately, are deceived.

“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world:”
Revelation 12:9

The road to deception is paved with a reliance on “men of God” who aren’t. When men turn to other men; when men rely on men instead of the Word of God: that is the beginning of deception.

Many of the scams run by false prophets are similar.  One of the most popular has been the “I’ve been to heaven and God sent me back with a message.”

This is totally contrary to what the Bible teaches.  No one is coming back from the dead with a message from God.  No message that needs telling isn’t already in God’s Word.

Yet, the book stores are full of such non-biblical messages; DVDs abound and YouTube has various videos with messages from false prophets.

And then, there are those hundreds of “prophetic” websites.  Check the bios of the prophets: quite a few are run by “former” witches and other members of the occult practices.

Sometimes, the messages appear to be biblical.  But after the readers’ trust has been gained, later messages include much which is not biblical.

Beware of false prophets.

That’s a message from God.

And that message is one which can be found in His Word.

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.”
2 Peter 2:1

Don’t rely on false prophets: rely on God’s Word.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
