“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

Pride, vanity and a sense of arrogance: the Bible calls these the “pride of life.”
Moderns may understand this better by the phrase “wanting to be somebody important.”
“Flattery will get you everywhere.”

Pride and vanity are particular weak spots in man. They are weak spots in ALL men.
“The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.”
–Psalm 94:11
This is one reason Satan appeals to man’s pride and vanity so often: they are useful in Satan’s efforts to mislead and ultimately control man.
“Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.”
–Job 15:31
The world–which is Satan’s willing and eager accomplice–fans the flames of man’s vanity and pride. This is why the world values and emphasizes such sins.
Pride, vanity and arrogance are the faces of man’s wickedness.
“The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.”
–Proverbs 8:13
Arrogance is believing that one’s sin (pride and vanity) elevates a man above his fellows.
Vanity, pride and arrogance are tools Satan uses to mislead and control man.
Misleading man by telling him it is important to “be somebody.”
Controlling man by controlling all those things of the world which contribute to man “being somebody.”
Vanity, pride and arrogance: ultimately–if not forsaken–they lead man to his destruction.
“Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.”
–Ecclesiastes 1:2
DOES the reader enjoy the praise and honor of the world?
DOES the reader know that the world expects something in return–usually your allegiance, willing or not?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?
