The End Times Significance of Psalm 2

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.”
–Psalm 2:1-12

Psalm 2 is only 12 verses long.

However, that little Psalm gives some VERY important end times prophecy information.

Particularly verses 2 and 3.

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.”
–Psalm 2:2-3

These two lines describe the rulers and kings of the earth who (unless they take counsel together in public) form a conspiracy.  This conspiracy of the earth’s rulers is against God Almighty and His Son (his anointed), Jesus Christ.

This end times conspiracy is confirmed in prophetic passages elsewhere in the Bible (Jeremiah 5:5 and Luke 19:14,27).

These rulers of the earth say “Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

These rulers are stubborn and rebellious: they want NO law of God to hinder or hold them.

And so these kings/rulers of the earth will set about throwing off the centuries of God’s laws–which were put into place for man’s protection.  The reader can no doubt see this taking place in the present (though it usually is said that this “casting away” of God’s laws is the “dawn of a new civilization” or “a new and better way of dealing with our problems” or “a new Golden Age of Man.“).

However, the Bible declares elsewhere (particularly in the Book of Revelation) that–with the dragon (Satan’s) help–these kings/rulers are successful in their plans to subjugate the entire world and to throw off all God’s laws.

For three and one-half years.

For 42 months.

For 1260 days.

Then God Almighty shall “speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

The results of the Creator exerting his power over His Creation can be found in Revelation 19-21.

It is not a pretty sight for the wicked.

He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
–Psalm 2:5

The LORD gets no pleasure from the wicked turning away from his commands to destruction–just as the LORD gets no pleasure from having to judge such men.

“Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?”
–Ezekiel 18:23

But it seems wicked men will have it no other way.

DOES the reader believe that modern times requires a new direction away from God’s laws and the truth of God’s Word?

DOES the reader believe that the Bible is merely the creation of a group of men and that it is hopelessly outdated?

DOES the reader believe that Psalm 2 is just so much nonsense?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
