Reflections On the Eve of Christmas

Christmas Eve

WHENEVER a much-deserved rest happens after a period of frenetic work, it seems like it often happens just before Christmas.

AND, it seems to bring to mind the following–which is appropriate.

“The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;”

So, after days and weeks and MONTHS of labor getting ready for the typical American Christmas celebration, a few moments of ‘quiet time’ appear to be richly deserved.

We have always taken this respite to reflect on 1) the harried times which led up to this; and, 2) odds and ends which have CHRISTMAS as a their focal point.

A few of the second type now follow.

1- HAS the reader ever heard of a EVE (the evening before a holiday) having an eve of its own?

Or, does the reader feel this is just a bit of holiday silliness?

Of course, dwelling upon the ‘eve of an eve’ is something a person does when faced with a few moments of quiet reflection.  It might be that a person has some particular tasks which are usually always put off to the hours before Christmas arrives?

THESE are the PERFECT ITEMS to relegate to the ‘eve of an Eve.’

Sunday is Christmas.  Saturday is Christmas Eve.  FRIDAY is the eve of Christmas Eve.

Just so the reader will know.

2- The hours before Christmas Day arrives are usually hours well-spent on quiet reflections.

3- All of the parents with young children USUALLY spend the eve of an EVE assembling toys and other Christmas cheer.

4- There doesn’t seem to be as many of those young adults with young children around as there once were.  Wonder why?

5- The time spent in quiet reflection on the eve of a holiday eve could be spent ANYTIME.

6- As one ages, Christmas seems to change a bit: the things that were once important become less so; the things that were in no way important, NOW  seemingly take center stage.

And those are some of the reflections had on this time before Christmas 2022.

DOES the reader have his own little time of reflection?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
