COUNTERFEIT HOLY SPIRIT: Lying Spirits of Deception in the Churches

TRADING THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR MYSTICISM

COUNTERFEIT HOLY SPIRIT: The Bible commands believers to test every spirit. But many Christians want an experience very badly. Many sitting in American churches want to feel a “move of God” or a “move of the Spirit.” And so, because so many do not walk by faith but by sight, spirits of deception enter into the churches. What are a few of these spirits? Why are they so prevalent today?

FALSE SPIRITS HAVE INVADED THE AMERICAN CHURCH

LYING SPIRITS

SPIRIT OF ANTICHRIST

SPIRITS OF DECEPTION

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
1 John 4:1

American Christians want to experience God by experiences.

Desiring the Holy Spirit–which the Bible says all believers have from the moment they are born again–many churches are reported to have contact with a spirit.

But is it the Holy Spirit?

There are many counterfeit spirits.  The Bible speaks of evil spirits, false spirits, lying spirits and a spirit of antichrist–among others.  Why are these spirits rushing into the churches?  There are several reasons.

Biblical Silence vs. Mystical Silence and What Really Went On at Passion 2012?

As they have for centuries, people who “feel far from God” continue to seek more “spiritual” experiences, and as such fall into dangerous, demonic deceptions. One such devilish device is the perversion of biblical prayer through the practice known in “Christian” circles as contemplative or centering prayer. As has been noted multiple times on this site, the practice of contemplative prayer has come into the evangelical world via the Roman Catholic Church, and it is no different than the meditation practiced by Eastern religions.

The Counterfeit Church and its Feel-Good Gospel

In churches across America, the awe and holiness of the Scriptures are fading fast. While countless “born again” believers still delight in His Word, share His love, and pray for each other, the vast majority of church members have chosen a more secular form of “worship.” Many feel free to interpret the Bible according to their own liking. Consequently, a widening gap is separating God’s timeless Truths from the world’s more culture-friendly adaptations.

As to the timing: it’s not coming, it’s here.  The whore Church of Revelation is already alive and well in America.  It is only consolidating its footholds and gathering its strength.  How much longer until it emerges as the woman riding the beast of Revelation 17:3-6?  Time will tell.

In the meantime, the lying spirits of the enemy are busy doing works of darkness.

A LYING SPIRIT

1 Kings and 2 Chronicles both tell the story of Ahab, a king to whom God sent a lying spirit

And the Lord said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner. And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said, I will persuade him.”

“And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so. Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.”
-1 Kings 22:20-23

Why did God use a lying spirit to deceive Ahab?

Ahab was again rejecting the clear warning from God, and choosing a path of wicked rebellion. In response to Ahab’s constant choice of sin, God revealed some of the inner workings of the spiritual world.

God had already pronounced a death sentence upon Ahab (1 Kings 20:42, 21:19), but had given him opportunity to repent of his wickedness. With this final rejection of God’s counsel, God determined to carry out the death sentence. Since Ahab continued to prefer the lies of his false prophets over the truth given by God’s prophets, God chose to use the false prophets to carry out His plan.

THE SPIRIT OF ANTICHRIST

“And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”
1 John 4:3

Spirit of Deception

Seducing spirits have been turned loose upon the world today. Many have been taken over by a spirit of deception in this hour.

I Timothy 4:1 “The Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirts, and doctrines of devils;” It’s happening now. We are in the last of the last days. Jesus is soon to come. The devil is seeking to deceive all that will yield to his lies.

Mysticism: A Counterfeit Holy Spirit

So – what is the true Holy Spirit and how does it function? All true Christians are indwelt with the Holy Spirit at the moment of conversion. When this happens, the Holy Spirit comes to live and dwell inside each newly born-again Christian until their time on this earth is over. The Holy Spirit has many functions, among them bringing conviction over sin and illuminating Scripture.

And yet, so many “Christians” hunger for a “move of God” or a “manifestation of the Spirit;” of experiencing what the Bible declares they already have: a presence of the Lord. We live in a time when experiences trump the Word of God.

Pew-sitters and pulpit-poachers are both searching for what the Bible clearly says they should already possess: the Holy Spirit.  But most appear willing to accept any spirit–and do.  Especially when that spirit brings excitement.

False religions do not have this indwelling of the Holy Spirit taking place within their adherents. So what’s a Devil to do? Well, he’ll just do what he’s always done, and rather successfully at that: create some kind of counterfeit experience to mimic a real blessing given by God to true Christians.

Could this hunger for a physical manifestation of the supernatural be brought on because so many who wear the Christian label are only playing a part? Could it be one of the by-products of a people used to walking by sight instead of faith?

(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
2 Corinthians 5:7

If one is a sight-walker, one doesn’t need faith: one has experiences, signs, wonders, feelings and emotions.  Could the wholesale lack of discernment also be another sign that the Holy Spirit is absent from those who feel they are believers?

Sad but likely.

Counterfeit Presence of God

Many churches practice getting into a state of antichrist altered perception by chanting or singing the same verses over and over and over again.  This writer grew up next to a large community of Eastern mystics.  The Christian repetitions are little different from the Hindu ones  A mantra is a mantra; it matters little whether you use “Jesus” or another deity as the centering mechanism.

Jesus warned against this in Matthew 6:7  But who listens to the Bible anymore–especially when it contradicts what many “feel” is right?  We live in a season where “Christians” believe any practice/ritual they engage in is sanctified by their very participation in it.

If we do it, it must be right.”

The end justifies the means.  If it works, do it.  If it feels good, do it.  And so, all too many do: convinced they’re worshiping the God of the Bible.  Instead, they give their praise and worship to an idol of their own construction.

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Matthew 6:7

The author of Mysticism: A Counterfeit Holy Spirit reveals that this meditative state–where Christians are certain they’ve had a “God encounter” or a “move of God” or a “move of the Holy Spirit”–makes Jesus to be a liar.

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 14:6

Who needs Jesus as the Way when they have just experienced “God” by their own devices? Counterfeit spirits will make it all about the worshipers; all about the experience.  The Holy Spirit will make it all about Jesus.

“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:”
John 15:26

When the Holy Spirit comes, it is to accomplish a particular purpose of God–not for the entertainment/experience/”look how spiritual we are” value.  When one believes one can manipulate the Holy Spirit into manifesting, who needs Jesus?

“Hey, let’s keep singing! I’ve already got goose bumps!”

“And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”
2 Corinthians 11:14

What is Mysticism?

Of course Satan is at the heart of this deception being foisted on the Church.  But what of the ones leading the deception?

“Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”
2 Corinthians 11:15

Is that being too harsh?  What if the church leaders are not aware they’ve been deceived?  Doesn’t that let them off the hook?  Doesn’t that let the poor people in the church escape blame?  Jesus had the answer.

“Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.”
Matthew 15:14

It’s time has come.  The spirit of mysticism is the spirit that’s exalted in many American Christian churches today–not the Holy Spirit.

Of course, Christians were warned this time would come. A time when those who formerly were practicing Christians would leave for the more exciting experiences of a different, seducing spirit.

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;”
1 Timothy 4:1

“Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”
Luke 18:8

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

  1. There is a lot of truth to this! If we are coming closer and closer to Christ’s return, then we know the days will only become darker and full of more evil. So why do we preach that everything is getting better? I just think it’s going to get much worse before it gets better. Evil spirits have worked their way into the churches and few leaders and churches even recognize it any more.

      Good question.

I believe it’s because many who label themselves “Christian” do not know or believe God’s Word.

If you know the Bible, you know that the prognosis for the Church is not a good one in the end times. Yet, because many listen to the world instead of God, they make up stories of “great [worldwide] revival.” The Bible says that there will a great “falling away.” It will be so massive, it will look like a revival to those who sit in the satanic whore of Babylon Church, however.

Yes, few recognize it. Fewer still say anything when it happens.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment.

      God bless.

  2. Really good article!!!!!!! Does anyone know (just curious) where these spirits (the lying one) come from originally. Is he one of God’s 7 spirits. If they are demons, why does God let them hang around him and he use them to do his bidding towards man? Are spirits angels? It doesn’t matter, just curious and there has to be someone who gets it better than me. AJC

    1. AJC,

Many questions will go unanswered until the end–which doesn’t stop speculation about them.

      Lying spirits?

Everything was created by God Almighty, so originally all things (spirits too) came from God.

      Are spirits angels?

Angels are spirits. SOME spirits are angels, obviously not all of them.

      Thanks for the comment.
