Modern Death: The Lies of Bereavement

man fighting death: lies of bereavement“”

“And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.”
–Matthew 10:36

America is a country with a well-developed death/bereavement industry.

America is also a country in which many well-known lies are told during various death rituals (obituaries, various funeral services, etc.) about the recently deceased. These fables are meant to soothe any qualms those who remain among the living may have (after having their attention focused on death by the passing of a loved one) about “meeting their Maker.”

Some of the better-known lies which the bereaved tell about those who are no longer among the living:

“Mr. John Doe went to be with the Lord.”

“Mrs. So-and-so went to meet the Lord.”

“In heaven at last!”

IF the deceased had been a genuine Christian, it is highly unlikely anyone would have written ANYTHING complimentary about him at death.

“And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.”
–Luke 21:17

One of the best-known lies told about the deceased (regardless of past behavior):

“He was a good man.”

or

“She was a good person.”

Which directly contradicts God’s Word.

“They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. “
–Psalm 14:3

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.  God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Psalm 53:1-3

It is sad that the dead do not pay closer attention to God’s Word while they still live.

HAS the reader had his attention focused by the death of a loved one?

CONCERNING the future: HAS the reader fallen for the smooth words of deceitful men?

THERE is still time left to change direction (repent) and call upon the name of the LORD.

Is your calling and election sure?

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
