Style Points for Liars?

exalted

“And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”
–Revelation 21:27

Style points.

During a recent discussion about the frequency with which modern man is lied to, the following series of remarks were made.

“I have come to expect to be lied to.  I just don’t want to be lied to in a stupid, clumsy way.”

So you award style points for lying?

“Not really style points.  But when someone doesn’t put any effort into their lies, they are saying, in effect, that they believe you are stupid and will believe any old story they come up with.”

Which brought to mind something which happened six or seven years ago.

Someone in New York City promised to immediately send out a carton of badly-needed items.

USUALLY, such a delivery was received in a few days.  After nearly a week, the promised delivery STILL had not been received.  Finally, a phone call was made to the person who had promised the delivery.

The conversation was short–and clever.

“I’m calling about that delivery that was supposed to have been sent out.  Did it ship yet?”

The response?

“I feel like it did.”

Which provoked a smile from the inquiring party.

Later in the same phone conversation, a new promise to ship the items that afternoon was made, so obviously those items had not shipped earlier as originally promised.

“I feel like it did.”

Style points.

“Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.”
–Revelation 22:14-15

DOES the reader ever congratulate himself for constructing a clever or inventive lie?

DOES the reader ever feel the least bit of satisfaction after putting together a highly effective lie?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
