The Foolish Ways of the Wicked

foolish fool

The word “foolish” means a great deal more than merely silly or comical.

Often, God’s Word uses the words “evil” and “wicked” interchangeably with the word “foolish.”

“The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.”
–Psalm 5;5

“For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.”
–Psalm 73:3

“For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.”
–Jeremiah 4:22

“Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.”
–Psalm 74:18

“A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.”
–Proverbs 17:25

“And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”
–Matthew 7:26-27

At other times, the Bible calls sinners “fools.”

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”
–Psalm 14:1

“He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.”
–Proverbs 10:18

“A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.”
–Proverbs 14:16

“As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.”
–Proverbs 26:11

It is not hard to see why God would call the sinner, the wicked and the evil man “foolish.”

Life on this earth is short–it is over quickly.

YET, the evil man lives his life as though this world is all that there is.

The foolish man ALSO will consider the words of other (also foolish) men before he considers the Word of God.

God’s Word clearly warns man of the dangers of sin and transgressing God’s laws.  Besides that, there is a great many promises made by God to those who obey his law.

YET, the wicked man ignores all of this–and pays a heavy price, both in this life and the one to come.

God has sent prophets to specifically warn man of the consequences of his sin.

YET, the sinner has convinced himself there will be no everlasting penalty to pay: that no judgment will ever be rendered against him.

It is little wonder the Bible calls such men “foolish.”

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
