“Again the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;”
–Ezekiel 33:1-3
UNHEEDED WARNINGS
The climax of human history grows ever closer: every day brings news of happenings which take place only in the very last days of the last days.
Frequently, when pointing out this or that end times event, one hears the modern rendition of
“Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
–2Peter 3:4
Occasionally the question is posed “Why warn people if the warnings go unheeded?”
What good does it do?
Most days, it seems the only ones responding are the agents of the enemy.
However, when a man sets himself to warn others (according to God’s Word), he really does not expect very many at all to take heed.
“How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.”
–Jude 1:18
“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts”
–2Peter 3:3
Still, the attempt has to be made.
One spur to continue warning when few take heed is the memory of when the person warning WAS EXACTLY IN THE SAME FRAME OF MIND: he heard the same warnings and can remember disregarding them.
He remembers his own disbelief and disregard for warnings. He remembers his own devotion to the faux warnings of men. The looking for of events which will not happen, the same disregard of what God’s Word declares will come to pass.
Sometimes, he used the same mocking retorts he now hears from others, substituting the inconsequential words and logic of men for the infallible Word of God.
BUT, he also remembers when his eyes were at last opened and the overwhelming understanding of what was soon to take place.
Before salvation, every soul is lost and deceived. ALL need a savior. And the combination of the world, the flesh and Satan never take a break while deceiving and leading humans to their destruction.
TEAM EVIL: The Devil, The Flesh and The World
Another reason to continue warning is the joy and reward of winning souls for the kingdom of heaven.
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”
–Proverbs 11:30
No two ways about it: warning the deceived is a thankless job.
However, there are the very occasional, very few who appear to heed the warnings of turning to Jesus Christ in these last days.
So, there’s that.
AND at some point, the watchmen hope to hear
“Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
–Matthew 25:23
And that will make the many, many, many warnings which were ignored well worth the trouble.
“Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.”
–Ezekiel 33:4-5
Does the reader realize: the time for warnings will soon be past?
Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation
“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:”
—2 Corinthians 4:3
THE GOSPEL
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
