Americans Always Hope for a Better Future

Hope!

Placing one’s hope in hope itself is no hope at all.

Every year, year-after-year, most Americans hope for a better year to come.

This was true in 1814.

This was true in 1914.

This was in 2014.

This is true in 2017.

Poll: Americans hopeful for a better year in 2014 – 2013 was certainly some year for Americans.

For those in the middle class, it was perhaps a year like no other.  Will the hopes for 2014–that it somehow be a better year–be realized?

We’ll see.

Most Americans have placed their hopes for a better future in the schemes of man.

The Christian has high hopes, but his faith is in God Almighty and His Son, Jesus Christ.

The world reckons hope–and the faith that leads to hope–much differently than the Christian.

While the Christian places his hope in that which is unseen, the Christian has solid evidence for his hope.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1

“Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.”
1 Peter 1:21

“(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)”
2 Corinthians 5:7

“By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”
Romans 5:2

The Christian is commanded to share this hope with the lost.

But the same world which has stolen hope from so many, brainwashes the lost to reject their one means of finding true hope.

Sad.

“The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23

Tragic, actually.

IS the reader hoping for a better year ahead?

HAS the reader placed his faith for the future in men–or in God Almighty?

THERE is still time to change direction (repent) and place one’s trust in Almighty God and His Son, Jesus Christ.

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:”
2 Corinthians 4:3
