Separate From the World: What Does That Mean?

Separate from the world

“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
James 4:4

God’s Word is quite clear about the world.

The world is a wicked, evil place–and all who hope to obey God’s commands are to SEPARATE  themselves from the world.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ”
1 John 2:15

The reader is no doubt familiar with the term “separate yourself from the world.”

BUT what does it mean, practically-speaking?

We can take a hint from Jesus Christ Himself.

Jesus even prayed to the Father to protect His chosen ones from the world’s devices.  In fact, the entire 17th chapter of John is this prayer by Jesus to the Father for the apostles–AND FOR FUTURE CHRISTIANS.  In it, He asks to sanctify (separate, set apart) believers by the Truth of God’s Word.

“I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

“I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

“And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.<

“I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

“They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;”
John 17:6-20
Separating from the World: END TIMES SURVIVAL

SO, even though the believer is still IN this world, the believer is not to be OF this world.

In other words, the believer is not to get “wrapped up” in the things of this world.

Because there is nothing good which comes from the things of this world.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
1 John 2:15-16

MAKE NO MISTAKE, this world has its many attractions and will NEVER stop trying to lure the believer back.

But the believer is to resist, knowing he has the assistance of God Almighty, Jesus Christ and God’s Holy Spirit.

He also has God’s Word as well.

Yes, this is sometimes easier said than done.  The world will keep reminding the believer how important it is; how shiny and pretty it is; how much FUN it is.

But the believer is to separate from the world, keep himself separate from the world’s things and concentrate on the future AFTER this present world has disappeared.

Separating from the world is a zero-sum game: the more one is separate from the world, the easier it is to follow the commands of God Almighty and His Son, Jesus Christ.

Particularly the ones about separating from the world and maintaining that separation.

But it also works in reverse: the more one is entangled by the world, the harder it is to obey the commands of God Almighty and His Son, Jesus Christ.

…and NOW, the reader knows.

DOES the reader believe himself to be separated from the world?

WHY not?

What is the reader waiting for?

It is not yet too late: there is still time to repent, place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
