Satan

Satan, devil, demon

It is sometimes forgotten how discussions got started or how they ended up like they did.

And so it was about a very recent conversation about Satan (“…And the great dragon…that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan”–Revelation 12:9).

The conversation included odds and ends about idols, devils, angels, familiar spirits–and Satan.

Specifically, the qualities which Satan obviously has.

And while it is well-known that the devil, Satan, is an accomplished liar and deceiver, there’s not much else (outside of some speculation found in fictional stories, songs and various claims by TV preachers) that can be found about mankind’s number one enemy.

THIS was how the topic was immediately arrived at.

What follows are a few of the various qualities that discussion attributed to Satan.  (Other characteristics were discussed BUT those will have to wait for another time, another written piece.)

1- As stated, Satan is an accomplished liar and an arch deceiver.

“And the great dragon…that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world”
–Revelation 12:9

2- Satan is restless, constantly pacing, constantly walking about the earth, looking for dupes.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”
–1PETER 5:8

“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
–Job 1:6-7

Later in the Book of Job, Satan once again describes himself.

“Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD. And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
–Job 2:1-2

3- Satan is, for the most part, very unoriginal and repetitive.

Satan is STILL TODAY telling the two lies he told Eve in the garden.

“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die”
–Genesis 3:4

“… ye shall be as gods…”
–Genesis 3:5

In the devil’s defense, he does NOT have to be very original: the same old, same old lies are STILL working today.

  1. Because wicked, foolish man is ALWAYS looking for a way to escape judgment at life’s end; and,
  2. Because arrogant and VAIN man will never tire of being told he is wonderful; indeed, that he is a god; is on his way to becoming a god; acts like a god; whatever.

4- Satan, as a created being, serves God–EVEN in his role as mankind’s chief adversary.

“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”
–Colossians 1:16-17

“I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.”
–Isaiah 45:7

Though created as a glorious angel, Satan harbored rebellion in his heart and flipped.

HOWEVER, even a rebellious higher order of being (such as Satan) can be used by God to do His bidding.

So, to all who are deceived into worshiping Satan: Satan is a servant of God and serves at God’s pleasure.

As will be made perfectly clear at the climax of human history (the return of Jesus Christ).

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
