Other Gospels: A Form of Godliness, No Power

NO FAKE GOSPELS: Demand the real thing.
NO FAKE GOSPELS: Demand the real thing.

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”
2 Timothy 3:1-5

FAKE AND PHONEY IMITATION GOSPELS ABOUND

The last days will be a time of men having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof. The end times will also see men offer a form of godliness which has no power: fake gospels.

Nowhere are these men more to be seen than in the churches.

“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”

What can this mean?

From 345 years ago:

Having a form of godliness: a form here is the same with a mask, or vizor, or appearance, an accidental form, opposed to substance and reality. It signifieth that in the latter times there should be many such as owned themselves Christians, and pretended to a right way of worshipping God, to be the church, the only church of God.

But denying the power thereof; but in practice, though not in words, denying all substantial godliness, which lieth not in assuming the empty name of Christians, and making a profession, but lies in truth, righteousness, love and peace, self-denial, mortifying our members; it being a thing attended with life and power, a man being no more a Christian than he acts and lives like a Christian.

From such turn away; from such kind of professors as were before described, the apostle willeth Timothy to turn away, both as to having any church fellowship or communion, or any intimacy of converse with them.
Matthew Poole’s Commentary

OTHER GOSPELS

In the times in which we live, nowhere is a form of godliness more apparent than in the preaching of other gospels.

If the gospel messages you’ve been hearing lo’ these many years have never once made you feel uncomfortable then you’ve never really heard the true gospel message. If the gospel messages you’ve been hearing lo’ these many years have never once challenged you then you’ve never really heard the true gospel message. If the gospel messages you’ve been hearing lo’ these many years haven’t accentuated Christ and the cross in perpetuity then you’ve never really heard the true gospel message. If the gospel messages you’ve been hearing lo’ these many years have never once stirred you to repentance, prompted inward introspection, humbled you, caused you to weep and truly see the enormity of your sin, then you’ve never really heard the true gospel message, but a neutered version wherein God is always smiling, the sun is always shining, the birds are always chirping and no matter what you do, God’s holding onto you so tight that you’ll never be able to get away.
The Neutered Gospel

Altar calls, ABC’s of Salvation, “letting Jesus into your heart,” sinners’ prayers, signing pledge cards, prayers of repentance, raising a hand at a revival: those in the churches avoid preaching the gospel at all costs.

Instead, they offer other gospels.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

God’s Word informs us that the gospel is the “power of God unto salvation.”

By substituting another form of godliness which SOUNDS and LOOKS similar to the gospel, men deny its power.

Little wonder there is no power of God in the churches: the gospel is not being preached (though it is constantly talked about).

People do not get saved with other gospels.

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”
Galatians 1:8-9

Doubly cursed is he who preaches another gospel.

IF someone offers another way to heaven other than Jesus; IF someone offers another gospel other than the one preached by Paul (1 Corinthians 15:1-8), they are being deceptive.

Paul said the gospel is how people are saved.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved,”
1 Corinthians 15:1-2

Demand the real deal.

“For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.”
1 Corinthians 4:15

See the lost saved.

Preach the gospel.

Don’t let deceitful workers offer a form of godliness with no power.

“They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.”
Titus 1:16

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8
