Workers of Iniquity: Always Looking Over their Shoulders

WORKERS OF INIQUITY: Worry is a constant companion.
WORKERS OF INIQUITY: Worry is a constant companion.

“But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.”

Isaiah 57:20-21

The worker of iniquity is deceived. He believes he is living “the good life,” but he is constantly plagued with worry, doubt and concern.

What about?

Many, many things: events he can’t control; those he can; what others think about him; tomorrow.

His hope is that it will get better. But the reality is: it only gets worse.

The fact that the workers of iniquity are restless and worried is not something that only happens to a few: it is the lot of ALL who are wicked.

“The wicked flee when no man pursueth”
Proverbs 28:1

It is not a random event that the wicked are always looking over their shoulders.

It is not by happenstance that the wicked (and all who are unsaved are wicked. There is none good) are filled with doubt–regardless of how comfortable their earthly situations appear to the casual observer.

“A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him. Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle. For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.”
Job 15:21, 24-25

Worry and the wicked are not strangers.

“There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.”
Isaiah 48:22

How do we know the wicked are full of doubts, worry, fears and concerns?

Because no matter how wealthy or well-off they are (and the reader undoubtedly knows someone exactly like this), complaints and woes are all that come from their mouths.

The papers are filled with stories of the suicides of the rich and celebrated. Senseless death is often the result of their use of alcohol and drugs to flee from the fears which constantly pursue them.

But the wicked cling to their iniquity. Many embrace the very behaviors and sins which are the cause of their discomfort until their final breaths are taken.

Again, the news is filled with the stories of alcohol, drugs (both legal and illegal) and all sorts of methods the rich and celebrated employ to ease their troubled minds.

But God does not afflict the wicked for His pleasure: by creating discomfort, His hope is that the wicked may be so uncomfortable with their sin that they turn from their wicked ways and live.

“As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live”
Ezekiel 33:11

“For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be”
Psalm 37:10

Are you on the path to destruction?

Not sure?

Regardless of what someone has told you, it doesn’t have to be this way.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:”
2 Corinthians 4:3

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
