Superpowers and Superheroes: The Media Propaganda Campaign

superpowers and superheroes

“And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled? And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you”
–Mark 13:3-5

The reader has been in the middle of one of the most prominent indoctrination campaigns (which has implications for the end times) of the past 100 years.

A number of such indoctrination campaigns are on-going, so to single one out as significant means the campaign must be important and have GREAT resources devoted to ensuring the public gets the message it is attempting to impart.

This media/entertainment campaign has continued for slightly over 80 years–though it was primarily carried on in the print medium until the 1970s (when television began to assist).  Print and TV are still factors today in this media campaign, but for the past 10-20 years, movies have been doing most of the project’s heavy lifting.

What is this indoctrination campaign?

Superpowers and the superheroes which wield them.

The number of superhero “blockbuster” movies has averaged as many as 3-4 (or more) a year over the past 5 years or so.  These superhero movies usually all share several common aspects, particularly the latest batch.

  1. The stories told are very entertaining.  Most feature the very latest in effects and cinematic technology, along with a variety of well-known movie celebrities.
  2. The movies themselves are HEAVILY promoted across almost all cultural platforms including advertisements in television, print, Internet, radio and others.  There is MUCH promotion which is intended to look like something other than advertisement: interviews, feature stories, news, advertorials, assessments, rankings.  In addition, dozens of studio outlets masquerading as “fan sites” “leak” advertisements/PR releases disguised as “news“–sometimes hourly or bi-hourly leading up to the release of a superhero movie.
  3. In most cases, video game and/or toy tie-ins also help promote these movies.
  4. Great care is taken to craft characters with which the audience “identifies“–particularly the superheroes.  This means that the characters are generally likeable and exhibit personality traits which the audience imagines it possesses.
  5. Humor is usually a key ingredient in these films.
  6. Because these movies are promoted as “entertainment,” the audience of these superhero movies have a tendency to “suspend their disbelief” and accept much of the underlying information which is offered without critically evaluating it. Audiences are MUCH more accepting of information relayed during media thought of as “entertainment” than they are when they are not absorbing information for enjoyment.
  7. There are other similarities in these films but it is beyond the scope of this article to examine them.

Though some of these superheroes have been in the public eye for at least 60 years, there are important differences with their modern iteration.

What was once clearly identified as fiction for the first 60 or so years of the campaign has morphed into the media’s regular, constant coverage about regular people and their ability to obtain various “superpowers.

This stage of the campaign is to convince the masses that even they can have access to superpowers.

  1. When Sign Language Is a Superpower
  2. Sharing: The New Superpower
  3. Attention, coffee lovers: Your go-to brew might have fat-burning superpowers

In addition, “your superpower” is a phrase which is regularly featured in the chitchat of celebrity interviews.

This is in addition to the regular media features on superpowers.

The superpower/superhero campaign appears to have several goals.

  1. Convince the public that superpowers exist;
  2. That such powers come from mutations or radiation or some other scientifically-based physical source;
  3. That many of those who wield such power are “heroes;”
  4. And, such “heroes” are worthy of the public’s loyalty in exchange for the “protection” of these “heroes.

ALL of these points have important end times consequences.

Otherwise, the mystery of iniquity would not devote the time, effort and resources to indoctrinating the public on such things.

Therefore, warnings about such powers, those who wield them and their nefarious end times purposes would appear to be in order.

BUT, as the entire world is deceived, it is likely that the reader will not believe any discouraging words to the contrary.

“And the great dragon…that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world”
–Revelation 12:9

DOES the reader enjoy the superhero stories, either comics, TV shows or movies?

DOES the reader believe such a wave of stories over the past 60 years have no more purpose than mere entertainment (with the hope of earning money for the creators)?

DOES the reader believe these stories have no end times deceptive purposes?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

DOES the reader believe he is saved?

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
