Learning to Cast One’s Cares

casting one's cares

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
1PETER 5:7

One of the most difficult things for a new believer to learn is to cast his cares (troubles) upon the LORD.

One reason this is a difficult behavior to learn is that, from an early age, Americans are taught to “depend on yourself!”

“Pull yourself up by your bootstraps!”

“Just DO IT!”

“Are you gonna fix it or are you gonna stand around all day and talk about it?”

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
–Proverbs 3:5

IF something goes wrong or is not proceeding in a manner which is expected, the new believer is apt to jump right in and try to remedy the situation without even thinking.

HOWEVER, God Himself stands ready to offer assistance to the believer.

AND God has some powerful assistance to offer!

That does not mean that every little trifling pebble in the road should make the believer cry out to God.  BUT, before one goes off half-cocked, one should consider ‘casting one’s cares upon Him for he careth for you.’

As was stated, this is not the natural way of reacting to difficulties IF one has been brought up to rely on one’s self.

HOWEVER, casting one’s cares on the LORD will garner MUCH better results than relying on one’s self.

“He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.”
–Proverbs 28:26

Thank goodness that God is exceedingly PATIENT.  For the LORD knows each man’s heart and knows if he is trying to take an easy way out OR if he is trying to follow God’s Word and lean upon the LORD.

AND casting one’s cares means UPON THE LORD: not on a government program; not on anotherg man; not on a friend who has a great idea.

Casting one’s cares upon the LORD is a LEARNED BEHAVIOR.

And if such behavior is not second nature to a believer, imagine how incredibly hard it must be for the non-believer to trust God.

“Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.”
–Jeremiah 9:23-24

DOES the reader find it hard to turn his worries, concerns, troubles and cares over to the LORD?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
