“Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.”
–Proverbs 4:26-27
Occasionally, a discussion MIGHT be thought of as “fairly unimportant.”
And so–as is common with such judgments–ANY remembrance (large or small) about the topic of those conversations is oftentimes easily forgotten.
This was the circumstance surrounding a small chat a few months ago about “distractions.”
There was SEVERAL points about that discussion which SHOULD have stuck in one’s mind.
BUT, they did not–and it was not until this past week (when that discussion was brought to mind) that this particular little conversation was even remembered.
As it was just one of those small conversations which take place almost every day–and which are soon forgotten–the exact words which were said at the time are kinda fuzzy.
BUT, a few important points were later remembered and NOW, they are shared with the reader.
1- So much of modern life is built around amusements, past times and other DISTRACTIONS.
2- What was MOST remembered about this little conversation was the point that the wicked, evil and foolish (which make up the vast majority of mankind, who are unsaved) use amusements and past times to DISTRACT them from their disobedience to the commands of God–and to the consequences of that disobedience.
3- These DISTRACTIONS can take MANY forms, some of them worse than others.
Sports, self-help regimens (or ANY planned behaviors which focus the person’s attention on themselves), cards, automobiles, houses (buying, selling, renovations, etc.), video games, music, games of ALL sorts, study of those things which are of the world, pursuit of the world’s ‘knowledge,’ various competitions and events which award the winners the acclaim and respect of the world, collecting the sundry knickknacks of the world…and the list continued.
Even the lost have a good head for what constitutes a distraction (or a “time waster” as some call it).
4- The world is only too happy to offer, not only the distractions themselves, BUT ALSO those things (competitions, rewards, attention) which focus on those distractions.
5- Many DISTRACTIONS–which take the place of service to God–are viewed by those who distracted as “just some innocent fun” OR “just a way to pass the time.”
6- These DISTRACTIONS are how a LOT of the world gets through its day.
7- A great many lives are built around, focused upon and/or otherwise occupied with such DISTRACTIONS UNTIL they become COMPULSIONS.
The reader only need think about how many people with which he is acquainted who engage in such distracting activities.
8- Is there a remedy to such diversions?
There is–BUT it involves the trading of those temporary amusements for the permanence of God’s Word.
“For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”
–Psalms 119:89
And to think that all of the above was nearly FORGOTTEN.
DOES the reader have his own little past time which consumes his time?
DOES the reader believe such time-consuming activities are just “innocent fun“?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
