The Law-Abiding

In the times in which we now live, there are a GREAT MANY terms and phrases one does not hear much anymore.

One of those phrases which is heard less NOW than PREVIOUSLY is “law-abiding.”

Of course, society is NOT very ‘law-abiding’ in these times.  As God’s Word put it

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”
–2TIMOTHY 3:1-5

One way for the reader to gauge the truth of this matter is to look around.

Again, one of those phrases which is heard less NOW than PREVIOUSLY is “law-abiding.”

As in “He is such an outstanding man: he is kind and gentle and LAW-ABIDING.”

This phrase came up in a conversation recently.

An acquaintance was complaining of the way the lock on his door worked.

“I’m just gonna have to break down and buy a new one.”

It was THEN that it was pointed out to the man that “locks only stop the law-abiding. IF a criminal wants to break into your house, he will find a way, even if you have installed the world’s best locks.”

The man wholeheartedly AGREED with this sentiment.

“Yeah, if someone wants something in your house, they can just break a window.”

Here it was pointed out (once more) that if the man had the world’s best locks on his windows, it would not stop someone from busting one out and robbing him.

It was at this point that the man offered, “You know, there’s something you don’t hear very often anymore.”

“What’s that?”

“Law-abiding. You’ve used it twice in the last minute, BUT that’s the first time I’ve heard that in a long, long time.”

“Well, it’s true: locks only stop those who obey the law. That was my point.”

“I think you’re right.  BUT, they do discourage the curious.”

And that’s where that conversation ended.

DOES the reader  believe that society as a whole is generally MORE law-abiding or LESS than it was fifty years ago?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
