The Seven Spirits of God

There are some parts of God’s Word which are DIFFICULT for the believer to understand.

So, it is easy enough to see that the UNbeliever will not be very skilled at unraveling the meaning behind such verses.

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
–1CORINTHIANS 2:14

IF the believer STUDIES God’s Word, he will USUALLY be able–through prayer and diligent study–to be able ascertain the meaning behind each line.

The UNbeliever might study the same passages for YEARS and not be able to arrive at the right meaning–because he is an UNbeliever.

One of the most difficult parts of end times study–at least for this studier–has to do with the Spirits of God (which are mentioned FOUR times in the Book of Revelation).

Scripture reveals that there are SEVEN Spirits of God.  BUT not much else is known FOR SURE.

Here are what God’s Word has to say in the Book of Revelation about those Seven Spirits of God.

“John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne”
–Revelation 1:4

“And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.”
–Revelation 3:1

“And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.”
–Revelation 4:5

“And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.”
–Revelation 5:6

So, in the first five chapters of Revelation, the Seven Spirits of God are mentioned FOUR times. The last fifteen chapters of the Book of Revelation are COMPLETELY silent on these SPIRITS OF GOD.

Has the reader studied the four verses from Revelation?

Not much to go on, is there?

A number of ‘esteemed Bible teachers’ have made the claim that the seven Spirits of God are related to the spirit which Isaiah says rests on the coming Jesus Christ.

These ‘Bible teachers’ have gone so far as to NAME the spirits based on what is in Isaiah 11.

“And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.”

According to these ‘Bible teachers,’ the names of the Spirits of God are

1 the spirit of THE LORD
2 the spirit of WISDOM
3 the spirit of UNDERSTANDING
4 the spirit of COUNSEL
5 the spirit of MIGHT
6 the spirit of KNOWLEDGE
7 the spirit of THE FEAR OF THE LORD

Could be.  BUT, the one thing these ‘teachers’ have identified–both in Isaiah and in Revelation–is the number SEVEN.

Other natural men, posing as SAVED Bible teachers, have ALSO hung their hats on the number SEVEN.

A popular interpretation is comparing the seven Spirits of God to the seven Graces of Romans 12.

“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.”
–Romans 12:6-8

This ALSO seems to be a stretch.

As far as the CORRECT INFORMATION about God’s seven Spirits, it may have to wait upon the return of Jesus Christ to earth OR a bit of divine revelation.

DOES the reader have any thoughts on the matter?

It is not YET too late–although time is surely running out: there is still a LITTLE time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
