The Ongoing Quest for Personal Energy

In the times in which we live, there seems to be a great value placed upon those items claimed to give a person “energy.

Coffee, tea, caffeine pills, various heavily-advertised energy drinks, sugar and other sweets, plants which contain caffeine, as well as various other stimulants such as diet pills, amphetamine, and cocaine have proved to be popular among those who are on the lookout for a boost in their personal energy.

Why this energetic pursuit of personal energy?

Among those who image they work and play harder than everyone else, more personal energy means less need for sleep–or at least that is what they tell themselves (and others).

In reality, a few sobering facts ought to take the the air out of the personal energy craze–but it likely won’t.

  1. There is NO proof that those who indulge in “energy-producing” stimulants accomplish more than those who do not;
  2. Stimulants do NOT give a person “free energy“: they only borrow from tomorrow.  The body has stores of “fight or flight” EMERGENCY use chemicals for when a person is faced with danger. Employing various stimulants to tap into these stored chemicals do NOT give the person energy: they only “borrow” from what might be needed in a dangerous situation tomorrow.  At some point, the human body–which only produces a small amount of these chemicals–will run dry.
  3. A great many of those who have forsaken sleep in favor of various energy stimulants find out that the human body NEEDS sleep.  Sure, one can manipulate the hours one gets for a very short time, but sleeping a few hours every night is a recipe for psychosis–and worse. Sleep deprivation leads to a number of unfavorable outcomes.

The ongoing quest for personal energy will likely go on until Jesus returns.

There are just too many who want to be–or APPEAR to be–energy powerhouses.

DOES the reader attempt to “cut corners” by using stimulants to help “take the edge off” or to “get through the day“?

Can the reader not get a good start to his day until he has had his morning coffee?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
