BILLIONS OF CHRISTIANS?
THE BIBLE’S ‘FEW‘ vs MAN’S ‘MANY‘
Saw a website which claimed that “billions of Christians” were praying. Unfortunately, this is not biblical. Even the most optimistic of worldly sources (which includes various cults–Roman Catholics, Mormons, Quakers, etc–as “Christians”) only numbers “Christians” at somewhere slightly under 2 billion people.
Many point out the great number of churches in America as “proof” there are many believers.
But for the most part the American church seems to be filed with two types of people: the imposters and the deceived. There are not very many true believers left in the apostate churches.
“But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.”
—2 Timothy 2:13
Some point to polls and surveys which number Americans who claim Jesus to be in the millions. One such survey reported that one in three Americans believe they are “born again.”
Of course, readers know that all who claim to be Christians are not. Jesus twice warned of lost people who think they are going to heaven–but are not His.
Unfortunately, Jesus will have to tell them He does not know them.
“And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.”
—Matthew 25:10-12
“And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
“When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
“But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth”

The Bible says that “few” are saved. Therefore, when referring to Christians, one should keep in mind that relatively few Christians actually exist in the world today. Jesus Himself declared:
“Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
–Matthew 7:14
Readers can also know that few are saved because of the times in which we live. The Bible declares that the whole world will worship the dragon (Satan) during the end times. The only exception to this will be the few whose names are written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
“And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
–Revelation 13:8
The end times are a time of tremendous loneliness among real Christians.
The workers of iniquity claim that there are MANY saved.
God’s Word states that there are FEW.
Who will the reader believe?
MANY will worship the dragon and the man of sin.
FEW there be that find eternal salvation.
Are you one of the few?
Is your calling and election sure?

Hi, Jeremiah! There is no way to contradict God Himself, period. My hope is based on His whole counsel though, which shows the innumerable company before His throne. But this seems to be best understood as those who are born from above all throughout history. These are many many (as the sands of the seashore) – but right now, or at any given time? No.
Polls are essentially flawed. You know that better than me. They’re interesting though. In this case, perhaps 3000 were randomly selected to answer imperfect question. So 1 in 3 of 3000 are professing born again Christians then. Okay, giving these people the benefit of the doubt that they have examined themselves to see if they are in the faith, then this is not billions of Christians, but… let me do the math here…

But anyway, it’s not good to be duped by numbers or pollsters who seem to kind of glib and who pontificate. For us, it’s all about preaching the Gospel so others will believe, so this remnant whom the Lord is drawing, can come to Him.

All very interesting.
As far as numbers go, the Bible doesn’t say anything but “few.”
1 in 3 in America believe they are born again (that’s 1 in 3 of ALL Americans).
Other surveys state that 2% of those professing to be Christians share their faith. Since sharing the gospel is a commandment, one can make the case that only 2% of those who think they are Christians actually are?!?
That’s why it’s safe to say “few.”
The great multitude is from all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues. “Multitude” covers a lot of ground. John is told that the great multitude has come from great tribulation–perhaps that means they are all recent arrivals (but that is speculation). They very well could be from all tribulations past?!?
