Unlikely Salvation

Heaven: God reveals Himself

Eternal salvation might be one of the most unlikely happenings for man.

Yes, the churches–and most other religions–promise their followers a happy hereafter to all who follow their formulae.

BUT the Bible says something altogether different.

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
–Matthew 7:13-14

God’s Word declares that “few there be that find” eternal salvation.

One can easily see why this is not a popular position in the churches–where salvation is supposedly there for the asking to all who say they want it.

One Bible passage popular in the churches is Matthew 7:7-8.

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

Which is all true–but what does the Bible ALSO say about those who seek God?

“The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Psalm 14:2-3

“There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.”
–Romans 3:11

“God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Psalm 53:2-3

So, salvation is there for those who seek God BUT “none…seeketh after God.”

So, how is one to attain eternal salvation?

Certainly not from the churches: they are a hindrance rather than a help.

How then?

The Bible also gives us a clue.

“For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.”
–Romans 9:15-16,18

So, man cannot attain salvation on his own.  He must have the mercy of God.

And the mercy of God is bountiful.

“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
–Lamentations 3:22-23

How is one to come by that mercy?

God’s Word also provides clues.

First, God provides salvation through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

Next, God delights in those who humble themselves before Him.

“The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way”
–Psalm 25:9

“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”
–Matthew 5:5

Finally, God shows mercy to those who keep His commandments and who provide others with testimonies of the LORD.

“All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.”
–Psalm 25:10

Does the reader greatly desire eternal salvation?

1- One must place one’s trust in the Lord Jesus Christ with all one’s heart.

2- Preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.

3- Pray for the mercy of the LORD.

Again, eternal salvation may be one of man’s most unlikely outcomes.

BUT, it IS possible to attain.

DOES the reader believe he is eternally secure because he shows up at a church every Sunday?

DOES the reader believe the men of the churches or the Word of God?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
