The Displays of the Perpetual Teen

“Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you”
–Leviticus 19:28

Perhaps the reader is familiar–or maybe the reader has seen or met–someone who dresses, acts or speaks as a teen-ager would dress, act or speak–but who obviously is NOT a teen-ager?

So many young folk (teens) are anxious to have “new experiences.” Often these “new experiences” will take the form of very old sins–such as drinking to excess or tattoos.

Occasionally, an older person will flaunt the excesses of youth to perhaps convince others that he is “young at heart” or “thinks young‘?

So maybe a woman with a nose-ring, a face full of other jewelry and multiple tattoos does force others to think, “Gee, I’ll bet that woman is a forward-thinking, free-spirited young person.”

Instead of “Gee, there’s a woman pushing 40 who is trying to convince someone she is much younger.”

Those of the perpetual teen persuasion are most usually herd animals.  Otherwise, they would not be so anxious to  adopt the ways of the herd they desire to be a part of.

Occasionally, one of this herd will be found in the buildings called the churches.

And so it was that a well-spoken young man in his 30’s with a number of holes in his face–each of the holes featuring a silver or gold ring, stud or other ornamentation–was discovered.

When it was pointed out that God’s Word frowns on such displays, the well-spoken young man responded with:

“I find it helps me to witness better to younger people. You know, guys playing basketball or just hanging out.”

So, here was not merely a perpetual teen, but a perpetual teen with JUSTIFICATION for his actions.

There are a number of songs, movies and other pieces of the popular culture titled “Forever Young.”

It seems the perpetual teen takes those words to heart.

One prays that other, better words would be adopted by that young man before it is all over and done with.

DOES the reader adopt mannerisms or dress based on what he believes others will think of such choices?

HAS the reader EVER made such decisions on his appearance?

PERHAPS the reader is acquainted with someone older who wishes to be thought of as a younger person?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
