The Hype Surrounding Familiar Spirits

“And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?”
–Isaiah 8:19

There are a GREAT MANY men who are fascinated by the spiritual beings the Bible calls “familiar spirits.”

It not hard for one to discover why this is.  Because these entities exist on a different, non-physical plane, they do not observe the same physical laws as do man.

plane

A level of existence or development. (eg, astral plane)

Because they live on a different level of existence, their actions–whenever they interact with man–seem as though they are imbued with great powers.

They are not.

HOWEVER, man is fairly easy to impress–particularly when it comes to power.

And so, in search of POWER, many are the men who fall prey to the familiar spirit’s deceptions.

What, exactly, is a familiar spirit (often called a “familiar” by those who utilize such entities)?

In European folklore and folk-belief of the Medieval and Early Modern periods, familiars (sometimes referred to as “familiar spirits” or “animal guides“) were believed to be supernatural entities that would assist witches and cunning folk in their practice of magic.

Pierre A. Riffard proposed this definition and quotations

A familiar spirit –(alter ego, doppelgänger, personal demon, personal totem, spirit companion) is the double, the alter-ego, of an individual. It does not look like the individual concerned. Even though it may have an independent life of its own, it remains closely linked to the individual. The familiar spirit can be an animal (animal companion).

And the reader should have NO doubts: because the familiar spirit is a slightly higher order of being, he is MUCH more intelligent than man.  Which makes him a MUCH better deceiver than the average guy in search of POWER.

But the man in search of earthly power is deluded anyway, so the familiar spirit ordinarily doesn’t have to work very hard to put a hook in that man’s mouth.

ONE of the biggest deceptions is that the familiar spirit SERVES THE MAN, who supposes himself to be “master” of the spirit.  This is a fairly laughable story, but it is one that has successfully hooked a great number of men.  And make no mistake: the familiar spirit is put on earth to cause wicked men to stumble, NOT to provide them with powers which men do not normally possess.

IF the man who chases after POWER paid more attention to the Word of God–instead of coveting earthly POWER–he would NOT associate with familiar spirits, as the Bible warns on more than one occasion.

“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD”
–Deuteronomy 18:10-12

Earthly power is a tremendous temptation to those who crave the PRIDE OF LIFE (the world’s acclaim)–which is a primary reason many men and women consult with familiar spirits.

A great many women who have felt powerless have fallen prey to the allure of having a familiar spirit.  Hence, the great number of witches and the great number of stories about how these women prospered because of the “power” of their familiar spirit.

Anyone who is conversant with witches KNOWS that, in spite of their great claimed powers, they receive little in the way of protection when the going gets rough–which it often does.

This is one area where the reader can see the HYPE surrounding familiar spirits.

Anyone who knows the stories we call HISTORY has read about the various ‘witch trials.’

WHY can’t their familiar spirit protect their “masters”  from harm?

Even if one believes the many deceptive tales told about “spells” and “hexes” and “magic”–which those who have familiar spirits tell others to mask where their otherworldly abilities come from–one still has to wonder, “Where is this great power when it comes to a witch being hanged or burned?”

Naturally, those who consult with familiar spirits want others to think that they possess a great benefit: powers beyond those of ordinary mortals (which seems to go a long way in the deception department), access to knowledge others do not have and a conduit into a spiritual network which others desire but do not have.

BUT, the powers of the familiar spirit are greatly hyped.

This is because familiar spirits were created BY GOD in order that wicked men who ignored the warnings of the LORD might stumble and fall.

Familiar spirits are NOT a great benefit.

They are a JUDGMENT from God on the wicked who will NOT heed the warnings in God’s Word.

Anyone who doubts this need only read 1SAMUEL 18:6-12, 28:1-25,31:1-13.

WHAT does the reader believe about familiar spirits?

HAS the reader been taught that belief in otherworldly spirits is the sign of a primitive mind?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
